    NOTE: If you have a hard time hearing over the music, try unplugging your headphones and watch without them. I am aware the music is too loud, and I have 100% fixed this in my newer videos, but this was an early video and I was still learning to edit. I apologize for the problem though, and you can be sure this won't happen in any of my newer videos! Thanks for watching!

    A trick I learned is to just twist the top off of the pineapple and set it in a small pot of prepared, moist soil. Also, check for a hole in the center of the pineapple when you pick one at the store. Some companies put a hole down the center so you can't grow anything with it.

    This video was so helpful I have been growing my pineapple plant for exactly two years from April 2017 to April 2019 so the Apple peeling compost idea was good to know, I'm going to try it and hopefully soon I'll be getting a pineapple flower thanks again. 🍍😊😉❤️🌸🍍

      Thank you, I'm glad this video helped you some. I tried it right after I made that video, I think it was about a week later. Still nothing yet but I'm very positive about it. It's actually got a new growth on it and I'm hopeful that it's a fruit. If it does fruit I'll keep you posted!! I can't wait cause spring just got here and I know this is going to be my year to get a pineapple! Keep me posted too, I want to know if others are having success.

      Tip the plant over on its side if it's in a container, that will make it produce the chemical to start fruiting. You can even make small pineapple plants fruit that way from what I understand

    Good tips! I've got about 7 pineapple plants that started from 1 years ago. Harvesting them at about 1 to 2 pineapples per year and they are the best, but a little small.

    We brought a pineapple back from a family vacation to Hawaii and I've been trying to grow the top since. Sadly, I was lost. Your video really answered questions that I didn't even know I should be asking.
    Thank you!

      Don't mention it! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and that it answered your questions. Mine is doing just fine. The apple trick worked well for me and a couple of friends who tried it too. Let me know if you have any luck in the future. I went to Hawaii back in 2014. I miss it practically every day too. We went to Kauai which is where they filmed Jurassic Park and is known as the garden Island. It was stunning, amazing flora, we can't wait to go back, though next time we plan on seeing the rest of the islands lol. Thanks again for watching!

    I’ve grown dozens of pineapple plants. You gave a lot of great advice in your video. The only difference I do is to root my tops in sand, sometimes with an under layer of potting soil but usually just straight sand. I use builders sand, not play sand btw. I save styrofoam bowls or the styrofoam little box that mushrooms come in, punch a drainage hole(s), fill with 3 or 4 inches of sand, shove the pineapple into the sand, then water well and sit it in a sunny location. After that I just water everyday. Eventually, it grows some fine roots then I transfer it to a pot with a mixture of potting mix, sand and compost.
    Oh and I have had one old pineapple plant that put out a second (but much smaller) pineapple.

    It’s much easier to twist the foliage off the actual pineapple rather than cutting it off you will get a better growth rate and all you do is Stripaway the green foliage at the bottom exposing the white area and I just put that in a glass of water until you get roots and then pop it in the soil in a way it goes I now have over a dozen plants growing that way

    Grown pineapple for decades. Pretty much only the white sugar loaf pineapple. Once you eat a white pineapple you don’t wanna eat a yellow one🤣 Trust me. Born and raised in Hawaii. Big Island. One thing about pineapple is that they don’t like too much water. I would even say only water when it’s extremely hot and haven’t rained for days or even weeks. Top water and not too much. When fruitis formed and nearly ripe, cut the watering less to prevent fruit from getting too watery. Sugars will be much higher. WHITE PINEAPPLES ARE KING. 🙏🏼👍🏼

    it would be great if next time you make it clear that your pineapple is indoors. Pineapple need plenty of sun. It takes less then one year for my pineapple to start producing outdoor. No need for the plant to grow that high unless is indoor.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's important to do both. I start out by watering the soil fairly well and then I pour a little bit of the remaining water on most of the leaves. If you notice the blades of the plant are set up in a way that they can funnel rain water down towards the center of the plant.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most people usually repot their pineapple plant when it starts to get bigger. You can get it up to a 12 inch pot and as long as it's a heavier pot like clay or terracotta it usually works best simply because your plant can get fairly big with its slips and suckers and not to mention the fruit. A heavier pot stuffed with nutrient rich substrate should keep your plant from getting top heavy. I know some growers even say they'll put theirs in a 5 gallon pot. I think that can be a little much but if it works for you. As long as you make sure yours has plenty of room and ample quick draining soil then your plant will be fine. They do need plenty to eat especially if you want them to fruit.

    Hm i am growing a pineapple now it has done well but i was always told they need VERY LITTLE water because the leaves store water? I have only watered maybe once a week if that and only directly to the soil. Does it need more?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really all about what I give mine too. Until the dog days of summer hit I keep it at maybe about watering once a week or every nine days. Once the heat gets here I do about every 3-5 days, but KY doesn't get that humid so mine dries out fairly fast. Once the plant produces a fruit though it will need a little bit more water to keep its fruit healthy. I'd say up from one cup of water to about 1.5 cups- two cups every 3-5 days. You are right though these guys can be a little miserly with their water.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Typically, yellow leaves are a sign of stress. The most common reason is from overwatering. I am guessing that you are from the northern hemisphere like I am? If so, it's winter and your plant is resting. Here in Kentucky, we don't get much direct sunlight at all during the winter if we get any at all. This means your plant isn't photosynthesizing like it does during spring/summer. Because of this, they don't require as much water as they do during those months. At most I'll give my big guy 4 cups of water every 3-4 weeks during the colder months. Make sure the container he's in has a drainage hole(s) too. Whatever water your plant doesn't use needs to drain away freely. If you keep a saucer underneath drain that after about 20 minutes. If it is from overwatering just back off on it and stick your finger in the soil before you water again. If it's pretty dry you can go ahead and water again. If not I'd wait. Other signs of stress include incorrect amounts of light, extreme temperature fluxations, incorrect fertilizers, too little water, pests/disease, and low humidity. Though the last typically manifests itself in the form of yellow leaves that quickly turn brown. If you suspect any of these let me know and I'll tell you how best to combat it. Good luck.

    I tried the apple to produce a pineapple and it didn't work, but calcium carbide did!!! First, let me tell you I've been growing my pineapple plants for about three years with no success of a pineapple until I found out about Calcium Carbide and within a month I have pineapples growing. I dropped a few chips of calcium carbide where the pineapple should be growing, added a little water and it smoked a bubbled like a science project and now I have pineapples growing from both of my plants. Now my biggest job will be keeping these plants alive during the winter under sun lamps. If anyone has any advise on how to do this, please help. Thank you.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you definitely do not want to overwater them. Now annually they only need about 20 inches of rainfall distributed fairly evenly. However if you are trying to get yours to fruit it does need a decent supply while growing another tasty juicy fruit. Also the larger yours is the more water they can take. You also need to take into consideration the temperature. As the heat index goes up the water intake levels need to increase as well. I did also say you should make sure you have the proper porous soil for it, so that the excess water can leave the plant. Leaving them in wet saturated soil all the time will kill em.

      It sounds like the fungus white leaf spot. Since it's a fruit plant you'll want to be as easy and organic as possible. I would use two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with a quart of warm (not hot) water and spray daily on the infected leaves/areas. Now, this can cause base rot or it could easily spread to other areas. Take care not to get water on the infected areas. Anytime you need to water make sure you get it just on the soil and not splash a bunch around. A cool damp environment is perfect for fungi to spread. I'd keep him outside or in a room with plenty of air circulation (a fan) to help him out.

    I tried this. I had 2 unsuccessful attempts (didn't root and dried out). The third time I finally had success. But that plant isn't doing particularly well. They used to do GREAT. But it became 2 plants. Early this year, I tried seperating them. Which went effortlessly, but ever since the leaves started browning and dying off, until they had no leaves left. I tried more water, less water, more sun, less sun. Eventually I thought that the gnats might be the problem. And I got rid of them pretty well, and yeah they finally started getting new leaves... But the leaves started to have those same brown tips again, yet no wign of gnats.
