To all those people who are debating whether Sakuya or Yumeko would win: Do remember that there were no Spell Card rules in the PC-98 games, so it's possible that Yumeko was trying her hardest to stop the heroine, which is meager compared to Sakuya's powers. Then again...
I'm not quite sure who I like more. Yumeko is cold, but so is Sakuya. Yumeko is merciless, but so is Sakuya. And they're both very calculating. It's like the only difference between the two in terms of skill are between swords vs. knives. Knives are smaller and lighter, but swords are more deadly. Bah, you know what? Sakuya is crazy sarcastic and I like that kind of character. They're so similar otherwise that it's hard to choose.
***** I think people could argue more about Mario and Luigi than these two. Maybe Sonic and Shadow? It's called "Flavor" where I come from. A slight personality difference, variant attacks, both are cool, why not love 'em both?
i personally think the flute really just slayes me. all i can think of is this emotionless maid spin elegantly around slinging swords in every direction.
I don't think you people should jump to the conclusion that Yumeko would win. Sakuya isn't stupid, if Yumeko didn't follow spell card rules neither would she, and I'm sure Sakuya has techniques that don't fit inside the rules. Besides, Sakuya is deadly accurate with those knives and can stop time. Barring spell card rules Sakuya could shred Yumeko while time was stopped.

It looks like Yumeko can only become intangible for around a second. Whilst we've never seen Sakuya stop time for more than a few seconds Based on these, Sakuya may win merely because she can stop time longer than Yumeko remains intangible Although Yumeko may also be more durable considering she's a doll and not an actual person with multiple vital organs
I think Yumeko's cool and all but I think a lot of the reason most people like her is because OMG THROWING SWORDS SWORDS ARE LONGER THAN KNIVES SHE COULD TOTALLY BEAT SAKUYA

this is a good remaster but.. it just doesnt have that punch like the old one so out of these two (and other remasters) i like the originals better when remastered the people who remaster them just dont capture the feeling and emotion of the originals plus its missing ZUN trumpets (ZUNpets!) but i dont mind that

Keep in mind, MANY of the characters in Touhou would be extremely EXTREMELY powerful without Spell Card rules and an OP Gap Youkai and miko to enforce them.

Please take note that Sakuya Izayoi has complete control over time, she could just freeze time, steal your swords and place them around you and reinforce them with a ton of knives. You would have little or no chance. So unless you can nullify time, you're in for a word of pain.
