Kevin Costner's ‘Horizon' Box Office Boondoggle ‘Yellowstone' Fans Are Largely a No Show

The fifth-season of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, featuring Kevin Costner, enjoyed the top scripted series premiere of 2022 with 12.1 million viewers. However, most of the millions of Yellowstone fans who attended the premiere of Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter One were a no show. The movie opened to just $11 million, a dismal start for an event title that cost $100 million to produce. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter Two is set to open in six weeks on August 16, and there are no plans to change the second film's release. Costner, who left Yellowstone amid his Horizon commitments, is also on the hook for marketing costs. The 55-plus crowd isn't known for rushing out to see a movie on opening weekend, and Horizon Chapter One could enjoy a strong multiple. The fate of the third and fourth Horizon movies isn't clear since they aren't part of the distribution deal with Warner Bros., meaning they could end up a streaming service.

People don't like going to theaters anymore. We have to put up with people who won't shut up, sign along, talk back to the screen, etc. The theaters would get many of us back if they would seriously crack down on the idiots in the theater who act like they are at home and the only ones that matter.

Loyalty is a fickle thing. When the Coz turned his back on YK too many heart broken fans of YK - including me - gave a thumbs down to Horizen. Too bad too. Horizen coulda been a contender.

Just because yellowstone is still on the hold an I'm not happy to be left hanging, doesn't mean that Kevin is not a damn good actor, all the films he has been in are great and awesome, an hands down he'll never top Open Range or The Postman
