Doug Yule seems like a nice guy, it's a shame he gets so much shit.

Yule only gets shit from people who lack reading comprehension. He was on more Velvet recordings then John Cale, and he had a massive influence musically (and vocally) on the last two Velvet LP's. The live band with him (vs Cale) was also far superior, there was a reason the early band wasn't recorded much, cause they were wet-behind-the-ears and the band was a mess. The later band with Yule was arguably tighter and frankly sounded f-ing amazing as the Live albums all prove.

Victor LaBouche agreed. Yule sang some of the velvets best songs, was a real tight well rounded musician, and even took weight off of Lou by sometimes singing lead for entire gigs. The idea of cale’s VU was definitely more famed by the warhol era stuff but I think real fans have deep respect for Doug’s VU

The Cale era was defined by experimentation and the reason it gets so much praise is because of this. The Yule era produced much mellower music that aligned more with the main stream. Yule’s a good musician, but John Cale is the promise of the Velvet Underground personified

@@sister_ray67 Love Cale. Paris 1919 is one of the greatest albums of all time. But there's a reason most of his records aren't that great whereas Lou's are excellent. You need both. You need John to inspire Lou and you need Lou to rein John in. And Lou could do it enough on his own while John couldn't really.

@@gajaga789 They were like Lennon/McCartney. They were good on their own but genius, together. The 3rd VU album is my favorite, by far. Loaded is my least favorite. That being said, who could deny that the first two with Cale were the best when it came to the experimentation? The 3rd one had what I would consider to be some of Lou's best songwriting. Musically speaking, this album was a gamechanger for them, as well. Loaded was way too "normal" for my taste which is probably why I didn't care for it, at all. Every VU album sounded like it was recorded by a different band which was what made them so unique and influential.

Nice to see Doug Yule getting a look-in at last. Loaded is such an underrated record - as is Squeeze, for that matter!

I hate people's pretentiousness, if people like loaded, how is it even possible to hate squeeze?
I love squeeze, just as much as i love loaded, and Yule is definitely one of the most underrated musician of all time

@@lostparlour I like Squeeze too and while I don't consider it a Velvet Underground album, thats not Doug's fault. They told him what to do. He wasn't trying to deceive people. It was the record company.

@@gajaga789 squeeze was a doug's solo album, under the name of velvet underground, underrated

@@lostparlour Agreed. Fricke, of all people, was an ass when he said it was a stain to the Velvet name. Fuck you. Its a good album and everyone with a brain knows its not the Velvet Underground. To say that, especially when you know the history, is just trying to dig and I guess buddy up to Lou or something. Its a dumb statement in general cause its actually a pretty good album if you listen to it with an open mind, and its an insane statement if you know who Doug is and the history of the Velvet Underground.

It's a shame that Lou's titanic ego couldn't stand having an actual avant garde musician around in John Cale.

Lou lived a hard life. The fact that he was even alive as long as he was was a miracle. He did a lot of damage to himself. Thank god we had him as long as we did, but in those last 5 years his voice was very shaky and he was clearly not much longer for this world.

They were truly great and under-appreciated in their time. Cheers for Lou and Doug (his playing and singling on 'Loaded' is so lovely).
I understand that Mo Tucker has become a Tea Party nut job these days. :(
