Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, had several notable confrontations with the Supreme Court, most famously during the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977. Here are some key points:
1. **Election Case (Raj Narain Case)**: In 1975, the Allahabad High Court found Indira Gandhi guilty of electoral malpractices and invalidated her 1971 election to the Lok Sabha. She appealed to the Supreme Court, which granted a conditional stay, allowing her to remain Prime Minister but barring her from voting in the Lok Sabha. This case contributed to her declaration of the Emergency on June 25, 1975.
2. **Emergency and Fundamental Rights**: During the Emergency, civil liberties were suspended, and political opponents were arrested. The Supreme Court, in the ADM Jabalpur case (also known as the Habeas Corpus case), ruled in favor of the government's right to suspend habeas corpus during the Emergency, a decision that has been widely criticized.
3. **42nd Amendment**: In 1976, the Indira Gandhi government passed the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution, which attempted to curtail the power of the judiciary and made sweeping changes to the Constitution, including weakening judicial review and making many laws beyond judicial scrutiny.
4. **After the Emergency**: After the Emergency was lifted and Indira Gandhi was defeated in the 1977 elections, the Supreme Court gradually restored its authority and struck down many provisions of the 42nd Amendment through subsequent judgments, reaffirming the doctrine of the basic structure of the Constitution.
Indira Gandhi's confrontations with the Supreme Court had long-lasting impacts on Indian politics and the judiciary, leading to a stronger emphasis on judicial independence and the protection of fundamental rights in subsequent years.

Unfortunately in India, to showcase your secular credentials, is expressing love and affection for "Muslims", for all self proclaimed "Secular" community. Above all, the self proclaimed "Secular" political parties do politics of "Reservation" by dividing the nation by discriminating religions and casts. The definition of word "Minority" starts and ends with "Muslims" in India for some political parties, who run one point agenda of vote bank politics. Why there isn't even any mention of Parsis, Christians, Jains, Buddhists etc. even once in all of these discussions ? Are they not Indians ?
Definition of minority is that they form less than 5% of the total. Muslims can no longer be called minorities as in some areas they are more than 50% & overall they are more than 30%.
The true minorities are the Jains and the Parsis, but do they even get a mention?
