There are risks that Reed Sheppard could not get enough playtime that he would need to bring very good stats. The Rockets team will try to get one of the last playoff spots and needs to win. We all know that efficiency is not what defined the rookies even if they are very good (even the rookie Wemby had not a very good offensive efficiency and will dramatically improve it in his season 2 and 3).
The efficiency is better for old rookies.
With this rookie class which is more composed of "for-development" guys (such as Risacher, Sarr, Castle or Salaün,...), this first year should be dominated by more "NBA-ready" players such as Zach Edey, Dalton Knecht, Tristan Da Silva, Devin Carter or Donovan Clingan, players who have a less high ceiling than the previous mentioned.
However, Da Silva and Carter should get a low playing time as they are in teams that need to win.
Edey should play a lot as Memphis has not lots of solutions at center. Donovan Clingan should play a lot as Portland will tank and need to see if they could get rid of Ayton.
Dalton Knecht should play a lot as Lakers will definitely need his long distance shooting.
We should see the rookie of the year in one of these three players.
Three players are in the ousider list : Castle, Sheppard and Buzelis. Castle and Buzelis will get much more playing time and will have better oppotunities to get stats.
Not to change topics, but do you think Chris Paul is in a sense, interviewing for a coaching spot? Something to think about.
I say yes. I say that is what he and Pop discussed and why signed. He will definitely be a player-coach this year and maybe for two years. I believe they win a title in Year 3 of the VW Era.
Castle wins ROY if he gets the necessary PT to show that in 3 years he would be the #1 pick in a redo of the 2024 draft.
Best rookie season, not even considering playing time, will probably be Rob
