Visiting The Kente Weaving Workshop In Bonwire, Ghana

  • This is our first (and last) overnight trip out of Kumasi and took a Tro Tro to Bonwire, not too far from the center of town, to visit a Kente weaving workshop that produces these traditional fabrics that are so important to Ashanti history.     Omg!!! I had no clue this tedious work was involved in the making of these cloths. I salute these gentlemen for their patience and skills. Just amazing. I'm definitely sharing this video with several people.

      But they're working harder not smarter. To be fair, people buy these clothes at a very high price just because they're woven by hand.

    I visited this village a long time ago now (1998). These people have incredible skill, artistry and craftsmanship!

    As a person who crochets I have been looking for an African technique that I can transition to. I am no where near skilled enough to weave like these men but I am still searching.

      600 cedis but could be more depending on the design.

    The knitting from the North is not kente!! They don't have designs and are more mechanical.
