its just a noobie thing to do with new youtubers, i have done it to. It is just accidental, you learn to have music VERY low, and learn to be subtle over time with music over commentary
I had bought a brand new ORIGINAL 'Heil Sound' talk box back in 1988 at a guitar store. It was the same kind that Peter Frampton, Joe Walsh and Joe Perry used in the 1970's. That thing hooked-up with my crybaby wah pedal together kept me amused for hours. Toss in some loud, crunchy distortion in overdrive and a glass finger tube for some slide guitar or even a spare violin bow, and you'll be churning out some of the coolest rock guitar sounds you'd ever heard. 😎👍
I can't thank you enough for showing is that~!! I wondered how Peter Frampton did that for over 50 yrs. and just now found out. I thought it was going from your mouth into a synthasizer or something like that. That you were singing into the tube. Sure glad to see how it works~!!
Thanks for explaining . As a non-musician , I always assumed the talk box was operated purely by the voice and not in conjunction with the guitar . Thanks for educating me !
Pretty cool , I didn't realize that's how the modern ones work. I used to use an original Heil Talkbox in the 70's and 80's, but those actually ran from the output of your amplifier. I had the 175 watt driver model. Feedback was deadly! 🤣😆🤣
Thanks for this explanation! I'm fascinated by a non-electric version, the mouth violin (K'ni). The mouth violin is bowed, but I think it'll work if picked instead.
I am confused because I thought you had to mic the talk tube to amplify the sound to really even hear it? Or can you get the sound through your amp? All the ones I have ever seen have the tube by a mic.
I dont get it. Do you need a microphone for the talkbox? Or does it depend on the talkbox? Can you generate sufficient volume without a mic? Thanks for the answers
So like, you're saying, the talk box pipe is unplugged, you can hear the keyboard/guitar, and when you plug it back in, the sounds play through the keyboard/guitar, and when you put the open end of the pipe in your mouth, and play the keyboard/guitar, the sounds play through the pipe, and the sounds come out your mouth?
It's like playing harmonica/harp. You shape your mouth and tongue but don't vocalise, no speaking or throaty sounds. The guitar creates the notes. It's like a wah pedal, look up a wah pedal being used on electric guitar. Same general concept.
Here is the guy that built the first talk box, legendary Nashville session man Pete Drake ( Jimmy Dean show about 1962 ) th-cam.com/video/c_i10rmmUsg/w-d-xo.html Some years later Pete Drake showed Peter Frampton this talk box while they both did George Harrisons album "All Things Must Pass" . Here is the sound from George Harrisons session during a break in recording .th-cam.com/video/LhM6C62seVA/w-d-xo.html
@@mandolinic I love it, and I think more people should see the Pink Floyd similarities. Also, well done to you for replying to a 4 year old comment! A lot of people don't bother
Y’all just gonna skip over the legendary Roger Troutman who did things with the talk box that humankind wasn’t ready for? #morebounce #totheounce #computerlove #soruff #sotuff
Why have loud music with lyrics during your explanation. Doesn't make sense to me... but thanks for making the video.

It’s ass country music too….
Turn the music in the back down
Exactly what I thought it was, and great demonstration. Thanks so much!
Hey Bandrew lol

Thank you so much! After trying to figure this out for years, YOUR explanation was actually understandable and complete.
The country music in the background absolutely killed this video

Nice and clean explanation, thanks! Cool video, love the exemples at the end.
When using the talk box he looks like someone from cloudy of a chance of meatballs
Been curious since watching Joe Walsh do Rocky Mountain Way. Cleared a lot up. Thanks!
Thanks dude. I checked out a couple of other videos. You explained it.
Great demonstration
Thanks for explaining . As a non-musician , I always assumed the talk box was operated purely by the voice and not in conjunction with the guitar . Thanks for educating me !
Nice video , could turn down the background music.
And change the music altogether.
Or better yet do sidechain
Ok...so...i liked the music in the background....made the video less boring and the explanation was what I was looking for. Thumbs up!
Appreciate the explanation. Thanks!

LIVIN ON A PRAYER COVER PLEASE
Everyone talking about livin on a prayer but no one is talking about the Jambi solo
Thanks for the video but turn off the music please, it's not easy to hear what you're saying.
That is awesome!
Cool. Never knew how they got that effect
Thanks for this explanation! I'm fascinated by a non-electric version, the mouth violin (K'ni). The mouth violin is bowed, but I think it'll work if picked instead.
I haven't seen one with a built-in amp. I have to run a cord from my amp to the talkbox. But I've had it forever. How do you clean your tube?
Fascinating
I love that you did Beverly Hills
very awesome
1:24 first song came to mind right away was livin' on a prayer xd
Hi! got one question: Which place in your pedal chain? thanks!
The music during this video doesn’t make any sense I can barely hear what you’re saying
reminds me of that saying please put me back on hold the song was not finished
I am confused because I thought you had to mic the talk tube to amplify the sound to really even hear it? Or can you get the sound through your amp? All the ones I have ever seen have the tube by a mic.
@Raven Cliff: G'mornin buuddy!
Is it very hard to clean ur mouth tube?
I'm just curious.
thxs!
Badass dude
What is that song tone from? The one that's after happy birthday?
Cool!
I dont get it. Do you need a microphone for the talkbox? Or does it depend on the talkbox? Can you generate sufficient volume without a mic? Thanks for the answers
Fabian Hehlgans seems like u need a mic for most of the talk boxes if it doesn’t already feed into an amp
I like it 🤩😎
How often do you clean the tube?
So like, you're saying, the talk box pipe is unplugged, you can hear the keyboard/guitar, and when you plug it back in, the sounds play through the keyboard/guitar, and when you put the open end of the pipe in your mouth, and play the keyboard/guitar, the sounds play through the pipe, and the sounds come out your mouth?
That's exactly how it works.
Fucking love the effect...Every song should have to have it ..outta be a law 😁
Alvino Rey pioneered this in 1939. Pete Drake made it famous in the early 1960s.
peter Frampton and bon jovi are my life
Bon Jovie yes!
Bon Jovi*
The music isnt that loud people are just controling assholes great video i heard every word
The music in the background is hellish
Finally I searched for something and found the answer on the first video I clicked on!
What song is in the background.
Pls turn down the background music
Fuck that's tight
Do you just talk or do you sing? Or you just speak and the words take the tone of the guitar?
SO the words take the tone of the strings? I thought you need to have the string and your voice at the same tone
It's like playing harmonica/harp. You shape your mouth and tongue but don't vocalise, no speaking or throaty sounds. The guitar creates the notes. It's like a wah pedal, look up a wah pedal being used on electric guitar. Same general concept.
better than keyboard :)

Yo I've been trying to find a video for this
Oh is this what Motley Crue used at the end of Kickstart My Heart?
QuiXilver yeah mick used a talk box
do you have to make a sound with your mouth too or you just move your lips?
JWZ Baia just lip movements. No sound is produced by your vocal chords.
Raven Cliff what is the song at 1:40
What’s the first demo song played? Can’t place it and it’s killing me
Conor Shrago Weezer Beverly Hills
oh that's how talk box works but it will damage the throat and vocal cords?
He should have done the beginning vocals of Me and My Gang by Rascal Flatts
So, that's how it was done on Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds. Cool!
One of the best albums ever
@@guymadgesam24 Definitely a prog rock masterpiece.
@@mandolinic I love it, and I think more people should see the Pink Floyd similarities. Also, well done to you for replying to a 4 year old comment! A lot of people don't bother
Hello RU still playing?? What kind of talkbox is it ???
So I don’t need a mic right?
Does it damage the vocal chords?
No. Your aren't actually singing
it sounds like daft punk in the demos
Im pretty sure they use a talkbox in some of their songs
Whoever invented the talk box made wah faces musical.
Song before happy birthday?
Beverly Hills by weezer
You forgot to say:
"I Just Shat Myself!"
whats the backing track?
It's Raven Cliff's single called Voodoo Whiskey.
2:02 sec sounds like the filipino song BEEP BEEP
You've never listened to bon jovi?
I'm a Filipino. What song did use inspired by Living in the prayer?
everyone is all "Living on a prayer" hows about Generator by Foo Fighters thats song destroys Bon Jovi
LinkVsGanon facts!
Or better yet some Peter Frampton!
GENERATOR BY FOO FIGHTERS
the music overlay is ill advised
*shitty dinosaur costumes from wish:* _check_
*keyboard:* _check_

Peter Frampton, Aerosmith
Can i use the talk box without instrument
rocky mountain way
Bruhhhh. I’m watching this while high. This shit is maaaaaaad crazy
No background music
But how does it work though. 🤣
I wanted to hear the explanation, however, that was not possible with the music playing over you.
It was possible you just wouldnt Give it the time of day cause u got triggerd for some reason
Everyone is being a big baby about his background music, it’s not even that bad... can someone tell me what he said though I couldn’t really hear him
Agreed
Don't have background music with vocals in it, it doesn't mesh with you talking over it
Y’all just gonna skip over the legendary Roger Troutman who did things with the talk box that humankind wasn’t ready for? #morebounce #totheounce #computerlove #soruff #sotuff
early autotune ;P
Zoo Matthias Jabs
Sooo, nobody mentiones he looks like Mark Zuckerberg? Okay.
Very off putting having the music in the background when you are explaining
music is too loud .
Please explain OR have music, don't do both. Very distracting.
Playing music in the background is why I did not watch this video. Bad idea.
Turned out to be pretty good. Your loss.
Music in the background is hella annoying.
this is what a talk box is.. not how it works.....
stayed long enough to hear how it worked. dislike and left early cause of terrible country music
that's his band xD
That’s rough XD
I came for the info, but quickly left because of the hillbilly music.
Holy crap, You can't listen to your explanation and the awful country music at the same time.
Unwatchable with that background music.
Remove the audio throughout, very annoying and doesn't add any value.
no for real that music is annoying and sucks really bad dude never do that
