    In this service call, the customer wanted us to do just the subpanel and then he was going to do all the wiring. The hard truth, though, is if you cannot figure out the accurate load calculations for electrical, it's a good indication that you should not be wiring things.

    I learned nothing about wiring an unfinished basement but learned a lot about electricians attitude toward a paying customer. Like yikes man, just change to title to: Stupid customer expects licensed electrician to do a job he doesn't want to do...

      As a licensed electrician with my own business just like this guy in the video, I understand where you're coming from but I also understand where he's coming from. The difference with me is I just won't take the job if my first impression of a customer is they know more than me, red flag. I, like most electricians have the luxury to do that since the demand is so high for trade jobs. For example, at least one call a week I go and diagnose a faulty GFCI Receptacle and all I do is press the reset button then collect the payment, off to the next. The majority of young adults today have trouble changing light bulbs...This guy in the vid gets too worked up by his customers lol, just turn down job to begin with, I know he could afford to cause I want to throw my work phone in the ocean a lot of days.

    I was about to call an electrician to just wire a few circuits at the panel after I ran the wire. You changed my mind about that. Lol. I helped an electrician run wire when I was a little guy for a summer, but never touched anything live. He always told me when we were doing a job, “There’s two things you should know as a man: 1. Having respect always gives you the upper hand. 2. If you don’t understand the whole thing, don’t f***ing do it.”

    What I don't understand is why the person who did the wiring couldn't show the permit to do what was done prior to Peterson showing up. It clearly states when applying for the permit to not start until you have the permit in hand stating the work to be done. secondly the permit clearly states not to cover any work that has not been inspected....and the rest goes on. This permit then would have shown Peterson what was inspected prior to installing a panel. Once completed prior to covering up anything you should have in hand the "green ticket"

    This guy is going to grow weed in his basement. That’s why he got weird about it. He’s in Colorado dude…. He simply doesn’t want to admit to you he’s building a room for that purpose that’s probably hidden. He doesn’t feel he needs to explain it to you and asked you to do it, yet here you are sitting there in that basement complaining about all of it. I came here to learn stuff, not to listen to complaints 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I had my house built with a sub panel in the basement and the walls framed. I wanted to get tips on wiring the basement but this video wasn’t it. My first basement that I had wired professionally, it wasn’t done like I wanted it done. That same house, the original builder electrician had to come back because the sub panel was put in where the bathroom was planned even thou we had shown where the panel should be placed. On the new house the electrician was rude when the house was being built. So I get that maybe you were trying to dissuade me from touching the wiring but I don’t trust electricians to do the job right ( yes it will probably be up to code) and I’ve finished a family room 25 years ago with no problem I’m just trying to get a refresher on what to do and not to do.

      I have a new build and the electrician was the worst of the trades. Ignored my queries to get a larger panel (which is now already full), didn’t take notes (so missed a couple of circuits), just generally flighty. I’m going to learn it and do the basement myself.

    Nothing wrong with over-building. Especially if you're planning for future things. I put a 100A in my basement (not an electrician) for only 4 circuts, and because I ran 220 to my garage to power a 40A and 60A machine (separately). My potential load might hit 80A, but most likely not. I believe you don't need to be "licensed" to know the right way and wrong way to do things. Like anything, you just need to be educated.

    You do nice neat work, but I probably would have insisted on 100 Amps to future proof it for the next 50 years. And I'd want the subpanel to be no more than 2/3 full. What may be an exercise room today may be a dual laundry in 5 years. When buying a home I'd lower my offer if an electric panel was full. I do like the information that you write in the panels, but switching to a tablet and printer to create a label has been a nice upgrade that others have moved to.

    • @neilbrookins8428
      @neilbrookins8428 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Completely agree. Upsizing to 100 amp and using a bigger panel so that slots are free when you are done will make the house more valuable to a future purchaser.

  • @yusuihang

    You can't just get a permit to wire up a subpanel without wiring the subcircuits? If you can, why don't you just quote and do that job? Everything after that, it's the homeowner's responsibility.

    what i have had to do is just remove all the home runs from panel area have licensed contractor pull permit land sub panel take pics have it inspected. told home owner to pull permit but just ask very nicely while the inspector is there to qckly chk what is there before landing home runs. sometimes they do most of time they dont until permit is processed.

    Have you done a video on how to hire a good electrician? Red flags and also the good things you want to see when choosing an electrician. Also, a video on when and why is it just smarter to rewire a house completely instead trying to patch an old system and get it up to code.
