I just read this book, and am very glad to discover your video… I wish there was more accesible analysis/discussion about this.
I wanted to add that I thought Gantry was a reactionary, an opportunist, highly suggestible…. AND a master of self-delusion and justification.
Thanks again for posting your thoughts.

my brain randomly added the word
    "bullsh&tter"
to the end of that descriptive list of character traits
    you were building.
    why....

You covered many of the things that make this book a great novel. I find it to be a cautionary tale for our times too. Some would and I'm sure did take offense of his negative portrayal of a Christian "man of God". But, fiction is often the best way to reach people who are gullible-with a deeply moving story that is all too relatable. It drives the point home without naming names and pointing fingers. The story is chilling and humorous at the same time. I think the Elmer type, the grandiose sociopathic narcissist, definitely is a threat today. We call all be fooled by good looks, charm, and theatrics.

It’s been on my TBR for quite some time. I need to read it. I also need to get to It Can’t Happen Here, although it is depressing as well.

Thanks for watching. It’s a really funny novel but it’s bleak how contemporary it is.

Can you please review 'Letters From The Earth', by Mark Twain?

I haven't read Mark Twain in a long while. Great idea!
