I have one of these Sweater Machine knitting machines. I bought it some years at a yard sale, stowed it and didn’t look at it until now. I have recently retired from professional sewing and have been wondering what my next learning project would be…I think this is it! My Sweater Machine is also brand new with all parts included. I worked at the Munsingwear factory downtown Minneapolis in the mid-70s and at one stage of my career there, I ran huge circular knitting machines and really enjoyed the process. I’m looking forward to giving this a try!
I think the problem with the carriage being hard to push was one of two reasons, the Keyplate wasn’t waxed before use and or, the yarn was too thick for the particular keyplate size being used. I think that looked more of a chunky yarn, which is better suited to a keyplate 4. Glad to see you got the Incredible and not the Ultimate, this is an original UK made Bond machine.
Interesting! I didn't really bat an eye at how hard it was since the directions told me to expect it being hard. This is a yarn I'd normally use with a size 5 or 5.5 crochet hook, so I'm not sure how that translates to the keyplate completely, lol
What’s the maximum width piece you can knit on this machine? I just saw a few of these for sale and am really tempted to get one even though the shipping costs to Australia are pretty huge, but overall it’s still far more affordable than the other options! I need to be able to make plus size items with it though so need to know it can do that. It looks plenty wide enough, but a measurement would be such a big help!
@@moniquem783 It depends on the yarn, thicker yarns on a bigger keyplate size will make wider pieces. 100 needles, which is the standard bed width, using chunky and keyplate 4 will give you a 50-52” chest sweater. Anything larger or knitted on a smaller keyplate and thinner yarn, will require the extension kit, which will give you an extra 30 needles. The good thing about the Bond machines, is that you can extend them, indefinitely.
@@Thesweaterfactory gosh that was quick! Thank you so very much! So I would need the extension kit. I’ve been trawling eBay and there is one extension kit available, but there are also a few listings for the needle beds from full machines so I’m tossing up getting those instead. Then I would be able to use any yarn I happen to have (I usually buy DK, but it might be whatever I’ve managed to spin and frankly who knows what size that will be! 😂) by adding one piece, and if I wanted to make a blanket or something I could add the second piece. The only thing is it doesn’t come with the hem piece then, but from what I can see of that it looks like I should be able to make it from some vinyl or leather once I’ve got the full machine there and can copy the original one. Do you think that’s possible? But, will I be missing any clips or anything like that to attach the extra pieces or will they just click into place and I can pop in a nut and bolt from the hardware store? The extra full size needle beds are actually quite a bit cheaper than the extension kit too so I would definitely prefer to spend less if I can get away with it. Especially knowing that I’d really be better off with 2 extension kits to have flexibility with yarn sizes. The cost of the actual products themselves is very reasonable, but the postage from the US is higher than the cost of the product on most listings!
So glad I found your video. I have a sweater machine I got years ago at Woolworth for $49.99. Remember them? I'll be getting the machine out soon to try some things. Thanks for providing the information.
I found one also at a 2nd hand shop...and paid only 5 for it...i only tried it once, our dog was a puppy then, and he would not leave the machine alone....so I packed it up n never tried it again. I still have it after 8 years n will be giving another try
In our community, we have an internet organization called Freecycle. A lady in a nearby town was giving one away and I just got it for FREE! Yes, free! Now I need to watch the video because this looks kind of complicated to put together and use. I hope it's not. I do regular knitting (simple stuff). I thought I could speed things up with this haha!
Can you please make a video how to organise it because it's hard for me the machine had been in our house for almost more than 17 years my mother used to know how to do it but not now so I need someone to help me
Do you knit? 🌞
Yes!

Instructions on a youtube video... write 'instructions how to use Bond knitting machine'
Would you be able to make beanies with it?
I believe so! If you make a panel, sew both ends into a tube, and the close up one end, it should turn out pretty well! :)
