  • Tackle Tip Tuesday. This is the brand new 2019 Shimano Stradic which just got released a few weeks ago. Decided to part with my Penn SS since it was really old, outdated and a piece of crap. I will bring you on my Adventure of a local Fishing store in Hawaii, Roy's Fishing Supply. Roy was kind enough to show us a few tricks when spooling braid.

    I have both reels. Both have carbon drag. And the Stratic has the module gear 2, but I’m telling you rite now. The Sustain is quieter and a lot smoother. I have a Stella 2500 fb, a 3000 Ci4+, Stratic 4000 fl, and Sustain 3000. The Sustain and the Ci4+ 3000 are my fav.

    Surprised the new shimano didn't have a braid ready spool. Will most stores spool line you bought from them off the shelve? Most of my local stores have braid on bulk spools already.

      Yes. Normally they have that soft rubber center strip.

    Howzit Nick, I’m thinking of buying a stradic. What size would you recommend. Right now I’m running a Nasci 2500 and a Sahara 3000. Should I buy same size or go bigger? It’s mainly for whipping.

    • @RAHfishing
      @RAHfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like the 5k size. It’s not too big and just right if you get into something on the bigger side.

    i have the stradic fl and spinfisher vi, i wouldnt say stradic flat out better. depends what you value, x protect is nowhere comparable to the physical seals in a spinfisher vi, dunk the stradic and its toast. if you are high n dry sure stradic is amazing but. surf fishing spinfisher all day

    • @RAHfishing
      @RAHfishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i agree stradic cant be dunked or its done. Its actually a fresh water reel. Thats why the seals aren't as good and its so might lighter. 🤙

  • @mytwinbabies1

    Good vid RAH! You notice how Roy was only able to pack (tight) 215 yards of 15lb braid? if I read the specs on the 5000 it says can take 220 yards of 20lb braid, if Roy put in 20lb braid then I doubt he would be able to load anywhere near 200 yds! I guess I'm just bummed bc I recently tried to spool a reel (should be able to take 300 yards of 20lb braid according to the specs) first with 150 yards mono backing (equivalent dia. to the braid) but was only able to load about 80 yards of braid after that, waaay short, made a real big mess when I tried to respool @#$%@! So now I will not believe these reel capacity specs. I was trying out the mono backing route for the first time because I had bunch of 150 yard braid spools which I got for cheap just lying around.

    • @RAHfishing
      @RAHfishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I loaded my reel with 30lb braid not 15lb. I used straight braid with no mono.

    • @mytwinbabies1
      @mytwinbabies1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah ok thanks for the clarification!

    • @travesb9690
      @travesb9690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why in the world would you put 150 yards of mono backing of equivalent diameter to braided main line? Your mono backing is much weaker then main line and if you get into larger fish then you will loose all your braided line with your fish. I personally never use mono as backing, I use few 1/4" wide strips of clear bandaid (I cut it into straps myself) on a spool and wrap the braid 3 times around the spool before tying it, never had any issues with braid slipping. If you must use mono as backing then at least use mono in same strength as braid but no more than 3-6 yards. You will have a lot more line on your spool and less chances of getting spooled by larger fish.
      And if the braid is labeled at 15 lb that doesn't mean anything when it comes to line capacity on reels. Each manufacturer rates their lines differently. For example, suffix 832 and powerpro actually brake way above their rated strength (in my own tests 15 lb sufix 832 breaks at 25-30 pounds when tying good knots). Daiwa jbraid is also slightly underrated and is thicker in diameter. Even posted braided line diameters are not accurate. I prefer Japanese market braided lines and reels because they spec them to same standard diameter (pe# 1, 1.2, 1.5, 2, 2.5) and if the reel says that it will fit 300m of pe #1.2 then it will, and it is rated at maximum strength, so if you buy a 15 lb japanese line and use knot that retains about 70% of strength then your line will brake at around 11 pounds. I wish they would adopt these standards in US so that each line manufacturer would use same standards for rating their fishing lines

      @@RAHfishing Well I'm an avid fisherman that could tell you most specs on the whole range from Daiwa, Shimano, Penn etc. My baitshop guy is the same. Whether a reel or rod is new or not, there is avaialble information online released before it actually makes it to the shop. This is pure laziness on Roy's part or maybe disinterest which is probably even worse. He's probably a nice guy, but that doesn't excuse him from not doing his homework.
