The amount of Light gathered by a scope is proportional to the square of the aperture of the telescope.
So, moving from a 6” to a 12” scope will allow 4 times the amount of light to enter the scope.
Even from 6” to 8” increases the gathering ability of the scope by about 83%
Aperture is more important that magnification imo

Hi thank you for the review, it is really useful once I'm about to buy the Classic Dobsonian 8 inch. I already have a 6 and a 10 and I want something in between in portability and light gathering punch. I love visual astronomy.

Why would you get a worse one if you have a better one

Hi, I got 6 inch Dob as my first scope back in 2011. Used it for viewing planets and moon. Then I got hooked to planetary astrophotography using ZWO 120MC camera with that 6 inch DOB and it opened new doorway to my hobby. Later I sold it away and got this manual 10 inch Dob put it on Equatorial Platform and it just totally shifted my Planetary imaging to the NEXT level. But then I got myself shited to DSO imaging and have iOptron iEQ45-Pro (45 pounds/20Kg payload) mount. Now I really miss that 10 inch Dob which I sold away to invest into AP rig.
But thinking of going back, should I consider getting 8 inch Dob that will also fit on my Equatorial mount by adding Tube rings? and also otherwise able to use as Dob for quick visual sessions?
What is performance of 8 inch OTA for DSO imaging ?
I have ZWO 1600MM-Pro and ZWO 585MC cameras.

Regarding an 8 “ or 10 inch collapsible go to sky watcher dobsonian, would a fan be applicable or beneficial to add on. Usage will be both visual and imaging.

Hi Mike, we don't recommend it for these scopes. The mirrors are fairly thin and cool fast enough to make the investment in a fan unnecessary.

6" Dob is like a toy. For the small premium, go 8" minimum. Even the focuser is far better 8"+ than the plastic 6"

Why is the Sky-Watcher Dobson 12" Clasic not listed? Has Sky-Watcher stopped offering it? I bought one in my country last year.

Different regions sell different products. These are the only ones available in the US.

@@kamilmoucka6811 it can get pretty confusing. There's even different names for the same models.

Shame it doesn’t come with a right angled finder for older people or those with neck or back problems!
