I owned a 1930 Ford Model A Deluxe coupe with a rumble seat. It was an awesome car. I bought it used with 33k miles. Factory green, black fenders, yellow spoke wheels and straw pin striping. It has mohair upholstery. I still miss that car....
Being born in 1937 this video sure brings back memories, my first car a used Ford 1942, auto shop in Jr. High, hot rods and lowered and raked custom cars were in the parking lot of my Hollywood High School. These were the days when metal was metal and chrome was chrome and craftsmanship meant something. The 50’s are a bygone happy era and I always thought I would like to come back in 50 years but unfortunately now I don’t think so 😢
My dad was truly a Ford guy and my older brother, that I could remember back in the 1950s and 60s. Now I can look back at myself and remember the Ford cars I owned up to the Ford Ranger trucks I so enjoyed. I been holding onto my last Ford Ranger XLT (4X4) for the last 19 years, it turns out to be my retirement hobby doing my own maintenance and upkeep. It's a 02' Ford truck with 174,000 miles, but the truck looks and drives like new. I only put on 3,000 miles a year now, but it still wakes up in the morning wanting to go to work. I recently ordered an ignition coil for the 4.0L engine, not that its needed, its for my spare parts bin. I use to joke to the guys where I worked for 37 years, that this Ford was my last buy and that some day it would probably out live me. I'm 72. and "Old Goldie" parks in front of my house every day.

Being a child of the 50's I spent many a summer vacation seeing the USA with my parents. Parents then came out of the depression then WWII with a thirst to see the USA in their Chevrolet. Or Ford or GM vehicle. Life was harder then but to them it was all a piece of cake compared to what they had been thru.

By the late early 1960s (1963-64-65) they started performing lies calling these automobiles insufficient and dangerous, no one knows why but modern kids (11-20 years) ate it all up like a morning breakfast. I don't know why we did such a criminal act! Ford will be missed, and so will all the brilliant lives that helped make the United States......

I got my first driver's license in 1968 also. I didnt have my own car yet. So my only choice was my Dad's 1968 Mustang GT. My Dad at the time was going through his midlife crisis (to my benefit!). The Mustang was a hardtop. Dark Maroon, black vinyl top with a white strip. What made the car stand out was (remember. "Midlife Crisis") the 390 cid V-8 (335 hp) and a 4 speed stick. My dad was very liberal in letting me drive the car. I also was very, very, very lucky never to have gotten a speeding tkt. The "Fun" lasted 2 years. In 1970 I was college bound and 1st car was a 1969 VW bug. Talk about "power back" from 335 hp to 53 hp. Somehow I never got any speeding tkts in the old V Dub too...😄

I was born in 51in Canada and I remember those car. My father the ford man needed a newer car every few years. I rod in a few modes but remember all car growing up. I also worked at a Ford Dealer ship ( car joke). Which meant I drove all car In the 60s and 70s. Cadillac. All Musting even the 303 Boss. I bought a 56 Victoria. No crown but all the bells and whistles . I enjoyed this program
36:50 a little girl standing in the back of that convertible, you'd never see that today. I remember riding in the back of dad's 40 business coupe at 4 and 5 years old just having a grand old time running around.
my mother took 14 of us home on the front fenders and the rear of the car including inside the car for my birthday back around'56 we drove around the lake to where we lived which was about 6 miles
The streets were less crowded with cars. I got to ride in a VW van with no seatbelts every morning to school in ‘80s and ‘90s and I survived. Would I drive that thing with kids on today’s roads? Not a chance. I’ve been around a lot accidents to know people drive distracted and careless these days.
Finally a car documentary that doesn’t gloat over GM the whole time! Ford gets so little attention in the 60s especially. When you look at the races it was the Fords winning the day! Long live the 427FE!

Henry Ford was an engineering genius. His model T was a tough all terrain vehicle , as there were hardly any roads in the modern sense. He pioneered the use of vanadium steel for axles and springs, and kept on testing his car designs under the most ardous conditions, till he was satisfied with the model T. The USA led the world in auto design and production thanks to Henry and Edsel Ford.

Today antique 50s cars are selling like hotcakes, and not for cheap either! The only issue is that most especially young people can't drive a stick shift.

One of my earliest memories was of me playing behind the wheel of my Dad’s 55 Ford Fairlane. Always loved Fords...Went to Ranken technical school in St Louis and got a job at my local Ford dealer... Stayed at the same job for over 30 years.
Very nice documentary. Thank you! My first car was a 1950 Ford, Custom, 2-door with the flathead V-8 in 1960. It had been “shaved” and repainted Sierra Gold. Like was popular at the time I had a name painted on the rear quarter panel: “Country Stock”. It was in good condition and looked cool especially after I lowered it all around. I paid $105.00 for it and drove it a few years until I bought a 1955 Ford, 2-door sedan with a overhead valve V-8. Next car was a 1957 Thunderbird with a 312 V-8 with 3-2 bbl carbs. I wanted more speed so I installed a early 60’s Ford 406 cubic inch, 405 horsepower V 8 and 3-2 bbl carbs and a four speed Ford trans= F U N !!! Gasoline was, I believe, 32 cents/gal for PREMIUM. :)

I grew up fixin Fords in the 60's , I owned a few as a kid , then I discovered Chrysler and that was the end of fords for me for 40 years , until my lovely bought me a 27 T for my 60th birthday, then after fixing my T Ford , I drove it a bit and fixed it some more , then stored it safely away. As for anyone who cares ford only came in black for a short time , the reason black was used was because it was fast drying lacquer and sped up drying time and shortened production time

I totally agree Noreen. I had a 57 T-bird for 31 years. I think the old birds are so beautiful. Back in 2001, I put a deposit down on an 02 Thunderbird. I waited a year for her to come in. I gave it to my Mother for a B-day gift. She was used to driving a bigger car, and was afraid of the little bird. We still own the red "retro bird", and she only has 2500 miles on her ! Stay safe 😷

I too have the loaded t-bird. Two tone red n black interior, but my little change was, I ordered a white hardtop. So I got some of the white into the car. Plus, I thought it gave the bird that classic t-bird look. Reminded me of my 57 bird I had too. I haven't had the bird out in years. I really need to take her out for some miles. Ford didn't actually build one bomber every 2hrs. I mean they didn't go from a huge pile of over 1mil different nuts bolts screws wires and rivets to a finished bomber in just 2hrs. That's an average not a factual figure.
David Tosh - I was fortunate enough to purchase a 34 Ford Victoria in 1961 that was solid and very drivable for only $200 bucks... I can only imagine what it might be worth if it had been maintained almost 60 years later.. I was only 14 yrs old at the time!!!!

Never got to even sit in a model T. Model A coupe ended up as hot rod. 50 Mercury I owned. I did not like the Column shift but it was ok at the drive in movies. Had 62 Ford with big shocks. Handled tariffic til a drunk ended it by smashing into me.

I'm a Mopar guy first but my Dad was a Ford guy so I have a soft spot for the Blue Oval. There have been so many awesome Ford's built over the years. My ten favorite Ford branded cars ever made are probably the 32 Ford V8's, the 39-40 Ford V8's, the 57 Custom 2 door sedan with the supercharged F-Code 312, the 63 1/2 Galaxie R-Code 427, the 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt, the 65 Shelby GT350, the 66-67 Fairlane R-Code 427, the 69 Fairlane Cobra 428 SCJ, the 69-70 Mustang BOSS 302, and the 70-71 Torino Cobra 429 SCJ. There are a handful of Mercurys too that I've always really liked like the 49-51 Mercury coupes, the 58 Mercury's with the 400 horsepower 430 Super Marauder 3x2 engine, the 64-67 Comet 427's, the 68 Cougar GT-E, the 69 Cyclone CJ, the 69-70 Cougar Eliminator BOSS 302, and the 70 Cyclone 429 SCJ. Ford has built some of my absolute favorite cars over the years even though I'm a Mopar guy. If I was gonna buy any brand new muscle car other than a Challenger R/T it would definitely be a Mustang GT. My grandfather's first car in 1940, when he was 14, was a black 1936 coupe. He was a mechanic then and picked it up cheap. He owned several Fords through the years, even going as far to request a Ford jeep while stationed in the Philippines as head of the motor pool. He had four children. The oldest, born in 1945 got a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 XL 390 in 1964. The next child, his daughter, got a 1960 Starliner in '65. My father, born in '56, had a red 1969 Fairlane Cobra sportsroof R code ram air while he was dating my mom in 1973. That's the car I came from the hospital in. He bought it from our cousin who was a year older. After I was born, they sold it and bought a 1963 Mercury Monterey 4 door. They traded that for a Gran Torino in '75. The last child, born in '62, got a 1965 Mustang in 1978. My grandfather always owned Ford trucks for work and bought Lincolns for my grandmother. My dad always owned a Ford truck, including a super nice 67 SWB back in the early 1980s. My first car was a 1968 Torino GT fastback. I've owned 5 Mustangs, 3 Torinos, 2 Mavericks, and 2 Ford trucks. This video is great and I love driving my '83 GT and 1973 Mach 1!!! Thank you!! I bleed blue.
While I’m a Dodge guy I have to give respect where it’s due. The product of Mr. Ford is a testimony to the kind of ingenuity that can arise from the individual’s sheer will to progress and innovate. The conditions in the country made it possible for a farm boy like him to walk to Detroit and make something of himself.

My latest car is a 2000 Crown Vic P71 ex cop car. It's built on the Panther platform, basically the same as the Lincoln shown at the end. This is the last of the real American body on frame, rear drive, V8 cars. I love having a non disposable car.

Great video....I'm a Ford nutcase from Australia and we had/have a huge outpost here ..We finished making Fords exclusively for Australia in 2016 but Ford does okay still ..Our real champion was and is the Falcon ..I have owned a few and still have two . We built them to our own unique design from 1972 but also built them on the American based design from 1960- 1971..Great car ...thanks so much..

I remember the cars in the 50s when they were new. They had colors that you don't see today. The unique shades were really something special. My dad had a 55 Crown Victoria, red and white and I've seen many of them restored but could never copy the exact shade of red.
Henry Fords autobiography of 1927 reveals that other colours were always available but nearly all bought the cheaper, Black. That was a great book to read.
The Model A was the first truly modern car. You could climb in it and fire it up and it'd run and go 50. My grandfather was a salesman in Western Kansas and he put a lot of miles on a Model A. He told me the Model A was a game changer. He also said when the Ford V8 came out that it burned more oil than gas (exaggerating). He described to me once how to change a flat on a Model T. It was quite a process. He said it didn't happen unless it was raining/snowing and you had a date.
What surprises me about the Model T Ford, is I was born in 1939 and throughout my young and teen years, I only ever saw one. I only remember seeing a couple of Model As. During the 40s, my dad had a 1932 Chevy coupe with a rumble seat. Most of the Fords I remember from those days were trucks. I figure most must have been recycled during WWII to build airplanes. I rarely ever saw any cars built before the late 30s when I was a teen in the 50s. To put things in perspective, it's not that unusual to see a 35-40 year old car today.
I have had Ford Falcons for the last 17 years in Australia , all car manufacturing now closed down because of Asian slave labor competition , 17 years of trouble free enjoyable motoring , Ford maintained the original inline six right to the end , a magic motor naturally vibration free and inherently balanced resurrected again by Mercedes and Jaguar recently because of torque and smoothness .
Hansel Franzen Obviously water was getting in from somewhere and the owner made no attempt to stop it or didn't know it was there , today on the road I still see 50 year old Falcons getting around , they don't look like they are show cars but simply they probably have been garaged and not abused , if you don't abuse cars and service them properly they go forever , I have had no rust on all my Falcons except one tiny bit around the back of the cabin on one and I noticed Ford put a goop of some sort on that join where it was spot welded on later models .

My first car was a 1949 Ford 2 door sedan. It costs me $15.00 dollars in 1963, and ran great. I wish I still had it.

Gosh, I love old cars. I very much enjoy driving my 1963 Ford Falcon Futura hardtop with a 260 V8 and Ford-O-Matic transmission to work everyday.

I was born in 51in Canada and I remember those car. My father the ford man needed a newer car every few years. I rod in a few modes but remember all car growing up. I also worked at a Ford Dealer ship ( car joke). Which meant I drove all car In the 60s and 70s. Cadillac. All Musting even the 303 Boss. I bought a 56 Victoria. No crown but all the bells and whistles . I enjoyed this program

my mother took 14 of us home on the front fenders and the rear of the car including inside the car for my birthday back around'56 we drove around the lake to where we lived which was about 6 miles
I used to sit against the tailgate in dads 36 ford pu as he drove everywhere, it had a 312.
The streets were less crowded with cars. I got to ride in a VW van with no seatbelts every morning to school in ‘80s and ‘90s and I survived. Would I drive that thing with kids on today’s roads? Not a chance. I’ve been around a lot accidents to know people drive distracted and careless these days.
Finally a car documentary that doesn’t gloat over GM the whole time! Ford gets so little attention in the 60s especially. When you look at the races it was the Fords winning the day! Long live the 427FE!

This was not simply a gem, but a pearl in the ocean of YT automotive videos. One has to dive very deep to find it.

Henry Ford was an engineering genius. His model T was a tough all terrain vehicle , as there were hardly any roads in the modern sense. He pioneered the use of vanadium steel for axles and springs, and kept on testing his car designs under the most ardous conditions, till he was satisfied with the model T. The USA led the world in auto design and production thanks to Henry and Edsel Ford.

One of my earliest memories was of me playing behind the wheel of my Dad’s 55 Ford Fairlane. Always loved Fords...Went to Ranken technical school in St Louis and got a job at my local Ford dealer... Stayed at the same job for over 30 years.

Very nice documentary. Thank you! My first car was a 1950 Ford, Custom, 2-door with the flathead V-8 in 1960. It had been “shaved” and repainted Sierra Gold. Like was popular at the time I had a name painted on the rear quarter panel: “Country Stock”. It was in good condition and looked cool especially after I lowered it all around. I paid $105.00 for it and drove it a few years until I bought a 1955 Ford, 2-door sedan with a overhead valve V-8. Next car was a 1957 Thunderbird with a 312 V-8 with 3-2 bbl carbs. I wanted more speed so I installed a early 60’s Ford 406 cubic inch, 405 horsepower V 8 and 3-2 bbl carbs and a four speed Ford trans= F U N !!! Gasoline was, I believe, 32 cents/gal for PREMIUM. :)
Innovation continues with all auto manufacturers today but the wide-eyed innocence and joy of the automobile's formative years is, sadly gone forever...

I grew up fixin Fords in the 60's , I owned a few as a kid , then I discovered Chrysler and that was the end of fords for me for 40 years , until my lovely bought me a 27 T for my 60th birthday, then after fixing my T Ford , I drove it a bit and fixed it some more , then stored it safely away.
As for anyone who cares ford only came in black for a short time , the reason black was used was because it was fast drying lacquer and sped up drying time and shortened production time

Back in 2001, I put a deposit down on an 02 Thunderbird. I waited a year for her to come in. I gave it to my Mother for a B-day gift.
She was used to driving a bigger car, and was afraid of the little bird. We still own the red "retro bird", and she only has 2500 miles on her !

I too have the loaded t-bird. Two tone red n black interior, but my little change was, I ordered a white hardtop. So I got some of the white into the car. Plus, I thought it gave the bird that classic t-bird look. Reminded me of my 57 bird I had too.
I haven't had the bird out in years. I really need to take her out for some miles. I have her stored in a climate controlled building too.
My daughter was born in 2001. I can't believe that all those years flew by.

Never got to even sit in a model T. Model A coupe ended up as hot rod. 50 Mercury I owned. I did not like the Column shift but it was ok at the drive in movies. Had 62 Ford with big shocks. Handled tariffic til a drunk ended it by smashing into me.

I'm a Mopar guy first but my Dad was a Ford guy so I have a soft spot for the Blue Oval. There have been so many awesome Ford's built over the years. My ten favorite Ford branded cars ever made are probably the 32 Ford V8's, the 39-40 Ford V8's, the 57 Custom 2 door sedan with the supercharged F-Code 312, the 63 1/2 Galaxie R-Code 427, the 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt, the 65 Shelby GT350, the 66-67 Fairlane R-Code 427, the 69 Fairlane Cobra 428 SCJ, the 69-70 Mustang BOSS 302, and the 70-71 Torino Cobra 429 SCJ. There are a handful of Mercurys too that I've always really liked like the 49-51 Mercury coupes, the 58 Mercury's with the 400 horsepower 430 Super Marauder 3x2 engine, the 64-67 Comet 427's, the 68 Cougar GT-E, the 69 Cyclone CJ, the 69-70 Cougar Eliminator BOSS 302, and the 70 Cyclone 429 SCJ. Ford has built some of my absolute favorite cars over the years even though I'm a Mopar guy. If I was gonna buy any brand new muscle car other than a Challenger R/T it would definitely be a Mustang GT. My grandfather's first car in 1940, when he was 14, was a black 1936 coupe. He was a mechanic then and picked it up cheap. He owned several Fords through the years, even going as far to request a Ford jeep while stationed in the Philippines as head of the motor pool.
He had four children. The oldest, born in 1945 got a 1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 XL 390 in 1964.
The next child, his daughter, got a 1960 Starliner in '65.
My father, born in '56, had a red 1969 Fairlane Cobra sportsroof R code ram air while he was dating my mom in 1973. That's the car I came from the hospital in. He bought it from our cousin who was a year older.
After I was born, they sold it and bought a 1963 Mercury Monterey 4 door. They traded that for a Gran Torino in '75.
The last child, born in '62, got a 1965 Mustang in 1978. My grandfather always owned Ford trucks for work and bought Lincolns for my grandmother. My dad always owned a Ford truck, including a super nice 67 SWB back in the early 1980s.
My first car was a 1968 Torino GT fastback. I've owned 5 Mustangs, 3 Torinos, 2 Mavericks, and 2 Ford trucks.

While I’m a Dodge guy I have to give respect where it’s due. The product of Mr. Ford is a testimony to the kind of ingenuity that can arise from the individual’s sheer will to progress and innovate. The conditions in the country made it possible for a farm boy like him to walk to Detroit and make something of himself.
The early model T's were mostly made by the Dodge brothers, they were assembled by Ford. Dodge owned much of the stock not in Ford's hands.
Sadly, those times are long gone.
Although the government is in to everything now, check out what Ford is doing in performance cars... The Ford GT and Shelby Mustangs, not to mention the Raptor pickup

My latest car is a 2000 Crown Vic P71 ex cop car. It's built on the Panther platform, basically the same as the Lincoln shown at the end. This is the last of the real American body on frame, rear drive, V8 cars. I love having a non disposable car.

I remember the cars in the 50s when they were new. They had colors that you don't see today. The unique shades were really something special. My dad had a 55 Crown Victoria, red and white and I've seen many of them restored but could never copy the exact shade of red.

The Model A was the first truly modern car. You could climb in it and fire it up and it'd run and go 50. My grandfather was a salesman in Western Kansas and he put a lot of miles on a Model A. He told me the Model A was a game changer. He also said when the Ford V8 came out that it burned more oil than gas (exaggerating). He described to me once how to change a flat on a Model T. It was quite a process. He said it didn't happen unless it was raining/snowing and you had a date.
Can't help but notice the MEN opened the car doors for the lovely ladies!
The '32 Lincoln Detroit Fire Chief's car caught my attention the most.
The grill is like a fire truck's!!! I really hope it's still around somewhere.

What surprises me about the Model T Ford, is I was born in 1939 and throughout my young and teen years, I only ever saw one. I only remember seeing a couple of Model As. During the 40s, my dad had a 1932 Chevy coupe with a rumble seat. Most of the Fords I remember from those days were trucks. I figure most must have been recycled during WWII to build airplanes. I rarely ever saw any cars built before the late 30s when I was a teen in the 50s. To put things in perspective, it's not that unusual to see a 35-40 year old car today.

I have had Ford Falcons for the last 17 years in Australia , all car manufacturing now closed down because of Asian slave labor competition , 17 years of trouble free enjoyable motoring , Ford maintained the original inline six right to the end , a magic motor naturally vibration free and inherently balanced resurrected again by Mercedes and Jaguar recently because of torque and smoothness .
Hansel Franzen Obviously water was getting in from somewhere and the owner made no attempt to stop it or didn't know it was there , today on the road I still see 50 year old Falcons getting around , they don't look like they are show cars but simply they probably have been garaged and not abused , if you don't abuse cars and service them properly they go forever , I have had no rust on all my Falcons except one tiny bit around the back of the cabin on one and I noticed Ford put a goop of some sort on that join where it was spot welded on later models .
Seeing the workers on the line of assabling the Model T remined me on Charlie Chaplin's Modern times

I would love to see some new cars with out all the junk like Power windows and power door locks .. If I ever bought a new Truck , It would be a Chevy Work Truck ..Lower priced less junk on it that likes to fail ..
