Thank god I find this video, there is no video about Microsoft remote assistance on Chinese websites, it's so sweet to illustrate step by step. Awesome video, now I can help my classmates adjust their computers ,thank you so much!!!!!
You are correct. You can e-mail the invitation to the other party. Regardless of how the invitation gets to the other computer, once it is there all you need to do is open it.
@mcitpstudent Certainly can. The only problem with remote assistance is you are going to need to other party to agree to allow you to connect and access their desktop and mess around with invitations, but it works quite well. You may also want to consider free products like tightVNC. This is free and you can configure either to prompt the user before taking control of their desktop or take control anytime you want. VNC is used in many companies of over the shoulder style support.
FANTASTIC!!!!! Now I can fix my mothers computer with remote assist, I almost did it today, but was missing ONE step. I might even upgrade to windows pro for remote desktop! THANK YOU!!!!
Basically when remote desktop is running it will automatically use port 3389. When it reaches your network at home, you dsl device will not know where to send the packets since there could be multiple computers on your home network. To fix this, forward port 3389 to your local computer. It should work fine in your company network unless there firewall is blocking the connection.
If the computer you are trying to connect to is behind a NAT device or firewall, you will need to ensure that port 3389 is allowed through to that p.c. Assuming this is setup up, remote desktop should work fine.
Thanks for the feedback. Microsoft they say the following. How do I resend a Windows Remote Assistance invitation? "On the first page of the Windows Remote Assistance wizard, under Or use a previous invitation again, click the invitation you want to resend, type and confirm a password, and then click Finish." Maybe if you re-send the invitation to you could use the old one. When we redo the video for Windows 8 will look into this and also the other suggestions in regards to the firewall.
Have a look at the system properties for both laptops and see what edition they are running. The DVD you used to install the OS proabably contains all editions of Windows 7 even though it is Home Premium. The key you put in during install would have determine which edition was installed. Microsoft put all editions of Windows 7 on each DVD so you have the media allready if you decide later you want to upgrade.
Try booting the computer in safe mode. Once in safe mode rename the user profile to username.old or something like that. If that fails, you could also boot to Windows PE and rename the user profile that way.
Try the Microsoft Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool. It is available on Microsoft web site. This will test your network for problems. It will also test UPnP. If that is configured correctly than Windows can setup port forwarding automatically for that pc.
Not with Remote Desktop. Remote Assistance you can do that.Your IT Department is probably not using remote desktop to do this. They are probably using anther product to control the desktop. There is a free product called tightvnc which does this.
Great video! Saved me a trip to my mom fixing her browser settings. Yeah, she can't take instructions. Even though i have worked at a call center doing customer support for 2 years helping people with their set top boxes. This makes me think i am good at guiding people doing easy tasks through the phone. Not the case with my mom though. Se just pisses me off. So we decided to try this method instead. Worked like a charm! Great informative video! You saved my day Peace
Is this from a remote desktop connection or are you login locally. It sounds like the user profile is damaged. What you could try if this is the case is login as the local administrator. Once logged in, rename the user profile you are having the problem with to something else. When you attempt to login again Windows will create a new profile. You can than copy over the settings from the old profile. This will get the user working again but is s drastic step.
Excellent video. The first connection option works for me, but not the second. I get a wrong name or password message. You could be more detailed in this particular section of your second segment.
Well actually I have 2 Win 7 ISO images that I mount onto a bootable USB drive. One of those is in Spanish (sometimes i fix computers for latin people) and that one prompts me for the version I want to install and if I want it on 32 or 64 bits. The 2nd one is the Win 7 Home premium in English and that one doesn't prompt me for anything but the Windows Key. So based on your answer the Win Key on my GF's laptop may not include remote desktop.
Wow This a great Video tutorial. Thank you very much. Hope we can get more videos tutorial lake this, I will follow you now and on, I am trying to learn as much as I can, Everything I know is from this vide tutorials. THANK U SO MUCH. ITFREETraining..
Really great video! This was very useful. I wish I had known some of this stuff years ago. LOL! I remember using remote desktop on either Windows XP or Win7, but I don't recall having to do all of this stuff. I didn't know that Remote Assistance was even available, so that was super good to know.
Great video! Cheers, just a quick question though, how would I go about remote desktop-ing a computer on an external network?? For instance, I am at work, need files or program that is on my home PC, remote desktop would be ideal, but how? Would it require putting in my public IP rather than local?! I am unsure how to go about it! Thanks
Yes something like that. Every time i try to click on my user it wont log in. And it wont let me try to do nothing. I went to check on other vids. and it said to restore my computer but it wont let me ether .
sup nice tut, i was wondering if you know what program mother Microsoft uses for remote assistance. They tried to help me out once using it. the program was sliver light based and in house because it had the fix it guy. it was more like some of the online based remote assist programs.they never manage to fix the problem but the software seemed really good. if you have any idea let me know thanks
For security sake, we'd advise against making a device accessible directly to the Internet via port forwarding for remote assistance. There are various remote access software suites, some are even free, that would be much more secure and provide a more robust feature set.
So basically, when trying to connect to the pc, I would put in PublicIP:3389 and I will be RD on my home PC? Will the remote desktop be affected by a proxy server the company is running? Thanks, sorry for the hassle!!
Hey my computer wont let me open any user. Every time i try to open my user it say The User profile failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. What can i do???
Lemme explain briefly. I've got 2 laptops, #1 is mine and #2 is my girlfriend's laptop. They both run the same copy of Windows 7 Home Premium DVD (I've reinstalled the OS with the same Windows DVD on both laptops) with their respective OEM Windows Key they came with and the weird thing is that only my laptop has the remote desktop area on the remote tab. My GF's laptop can access my laptop via remote desktop but I can't access hers. How can that be if both laptops run the very same OS?
Thanks much better explaint and shown then on the Microsoft website... Thanks a lot. Will help me and my Family a lot. Sad that Microsoft added only a chat and not allso a VoIP feat. to Remote Assistance. Would be much easyer to show someone how to work with the Computer. Solve the problems they have...
Hi great tutorial, but you said in the remote access part that i can access another computer such as my work one but never showed how to do that using remote desktop.
As long a you had a direct connection between the two you will be able to use remote desktop to access the other computer. You can use the name of the computer if it can be resolved or just enter in the IP Address of the other computer.
Brett Robinson If it is on the same LAN they may be able to resolve each other without DNS. Depends on if network discovery is on. Otherwise since they are on the same LAN you do not need to worry about firewalls blocking it. All you need to do is configure remote desktop on the other computer and enter its IP Address on the computer that you want to control it from when prompted by the remote desktop client.
itfreetraining Um ok thanks still not sure what you mean, just watched the vid again and still can work out how to access the other computer that would be at work.
Brett Robinson Enable remote desktop on the computer that you want to control. Run Remote desktop on the other computer and enter the address of the other computer and then enter in a username and password. What have you tried so far?
I find teamknow very good, only problem is now that when I want them to source into my computer some bloody advert from microsoft comes up blocking their access. I pay teamhow money so I do not expecting some goddame mircosoft store sight blocking them
This Public folder is shared over the network with permissions that allow other networked workstations to access the share freely. With permissions configured for groups such as 'Everyone', or 'Domain Users', network shares become freely available to users on the local network.
Great Vid, thanks for sharing. Does this mean that i can support my guys located in remote locations (other countries) via remote assistance? I've been using team viewer for sometime now but i didn't like it much....keeps disconnecting unless ye buy licensed one. Keep up good work guys. I'm learning new things from ye guys day by day. +Bryan S +itfreetraining I think I can figure it out, but in this vid it looks like the option was greyed out. I was just curious. We do not have a public share and do not use Web Based e-mail. I want to make things easy for the end user.
Thank god I find this video, there is no video about Microsoft remote assistance on Chinese websites, it's so sweet to illustrate step by step. Awesome video, now I can help my classmates adjust their computers ,thank you so much!!!!!

@nilv504 Thanks very much. Don't worry more videos are on the way.

Thanks for reply. Yah, i already use VNC to support my guys @ HQ. I don't have to physically move between floors to support them. It's really great.
BEST video I have seen yet on this subject. Easy to understand, step by step and seemed rather simple. Awesome job!
Thanks very much, glad we could help.

@gracekennyblogg No problem. Glad the video helped.

Still valid and useful in 2021
Thanks, glad we could help.
You should not get any lag on a LAN unless the PC's that you are using are slow and can't display that graphics fast enough.
Which operating system and edition are you running? For Windows 7 you need to have Professional or above.
Great video!

You only need a network connection between the two computers. You don't need to have a internet connection.
What happens if the computer I'm configuring has the remote desktop area missing on the remote tab?
Very nice tut man

thanks for the tutorials
No problem at all, thanks for watching.
kindly inform me , how is the "public" folder is shared ? do you mean that the other person is on the same network which is your network ? thanks

Keep up good work guys. I'm learning new things from ye guys day by day. Thanks again
What will be the second computer name " Enter the name of the remote computer" please ...help
sir, this is the best video tutorial ever but i cannot understand how do you share invitation file to other computer?. is it LAN connected pc or else?
Thank you for the great feedback and thanks for watching. As for sending the support request, you get the option to email the invitation.
looks great :) but dose it works from country to country like example norway, my freinds live in USA and need some help to install anyhing, dose that work to? please feedback 0if you now :)
Yes it will work as long as you have a direct connection between the two computers.
Hi why when im in Facebook or in Counter Strike my desktop respawn or how to say it for example when im in game , automatically goes to desktop why ?
Kushtrim Morina You have an application running on the computer that wants some attention. Showing a dialog message or something like that or you are accidental hitting the windows start key. That is most likely why it is going to the desktop.
good one ! thanks a lot !
Thanks for watching.
I wish you could make videos like this on Linux too so I can educate myself good
Thanks for tutorial...
Thank you and thanks for watching.
hi guys smal doubt, we need any internet connection fo this...
p if i dont send him it buy email thanksgreat exsplained but when you say send an invitation to a freind do i have to atach this to his email adress and send it if he is on his computer and i ask him for help how will he no that i want hel
+Jade Owens The invitation is in a file, so all you need to do is sent it them by e-mail and they just need to open it.
+itfreetraining Do you have one that shows the e-mail option? That one would be the most efficient for me.
+Bryan S Do you mean a video that details actually sending the email invitation for assistance?
+itfreetraining I think I can figure it out, but in this vid it looks like the option was greyed out. I was just curious.
