Great video! Thank you for the info. too. I am flying in next week for the first time, and I have been warned the take-off & landings are not for weinees. It was a comfort to watch the video, and to know its not that bad. I'm actually looking forward to it. Oh, and the shadow of the plane during take-off was cool. Thanks again, Lulu in Texas
Great video! Two weeks ago I was on an AA 737 from here to DFW, and when I took off it wasn't really that intense. The takeoff was a little bit steep, but I didn't really hear the engine cut-off sound.
Awesome quality again! At 3:00 the plane sounds like it's at idle! But then they couldn't climb. It also doesn't sound like they cut the engine power as fast as in other SNA take off videos I've seen, but maybe the CRJ-900 is a much quieter aircraft.
On operations from runway 19R a steep climb is required to allow for a power reduction at about 500-700 feet for a quieter overflight over the city of Newport Beach. For 19R departures a left turn after departure to 175 degrees allows for a passage over Newport Beach within the confines of the noise abatement profile.
power reduction at 2:52 initial Rotation and climb level off reached, safe speed attained, Dip 'er over and clean up....why race the engine's, overspeed, and burn excess fuel. (love that part!) very nice Vid!
Another 5-10 seconds on that recording and you would have found where I reside. Excellent video, sure beats my camera. DUUKE2 RNAV is a thriller on its own.
This is hands down, the best takeoff from John Wayne on youtube. Stunning quality, stunning sound, stunning scenery, and stunning videographer! What seat did you sit in, because I'm going on a US Airways crj900 soon out of John Wayne and I would love to sit in that seat. Keep up the great work!
4;37 is Dana Point. In 1834 Richard Henry Dana, for whom the town is named for, had hides tossed to him on the beach from the cliffs above and he arranged them on the ships boat for loading. From his classic "Two Years Before the Mast."
@travelsonic im guessing air traffic control had them flying level at 2:50 instead of climbing and at their altitude they can't exceed 250 knots so they really had to pull back power to keep under that speed
due in part to the lack of aerodynamic anchors called engines on the wings...one aircraft that scares the crap out of me on takeoff is the 757...gees, power up...rotate...cli...we're here.
I’m flying for the first time departing from John Wayne. I’m nervous about the takeoff. Do you feel intense G force? Stomach sinking feeling? Is it bad or for a few seconds?
It also kind of depends on the captain, someone like to keep their nose decrease as smooth as possible, while others just push on the yoke to match the flight director. You don’t really feel any intense G-force of anything, maybe just the usual force you feel when the aircraft rotates, but nothing different, it’s actually pretty fun
If you're not familiar with the "noise abatement" takeoff and the airline doesn't bother to explain it ahead of time...It can freak you out for sure! Southwest is usually cool that way but all others I've flown have let you "figure it out" by yourself. A.K.A. Full throttle, straight up, shut engines off.......(or so it seems) FUN! (after the first time, it actually is, though)
The shadow of the aircraft was perfect! Great video!
Wow, This has to be the best video of a departure from KSNA I've ever seen. Great Video!!!!!!!

Great job, the highest quality video of a SNA take off on TH-cam.

Nice filming on this.

Saw my old high school, I miss home!
I love the RJ's! cant wait to fly them when i get to the regional's in a few years.
Awesome! Those CRJs climb like mountain goats.
Ah the mesa flight to phoenix! That was a great flight when I took it. Have a video on my channel too...same one...left seat just like this one too!

nice shadow effect =)
awesome! i loved how u can see yur shadow during takeoff. very clean vid, what kind of camera did you use?
Man I miss that place!

best takee off vidd on TH-cam(:
Superb Video. But I hate takeoff's. That and landing is when I get really nervous.
Can't wait to take off here
What camera are you using to record this? Amazingly clear!

How many people were in the plane with you?
I love taking off in a B757!
John Wayne airport reminds me of Wailua International
Was this flight going to San Diego ??
I thought 2:17 was the infamous powerdown until 2:50... holy crap.
@thebestjustin100 US Airways express (Mesa) Say's in the description..

Not bad at all. Nothing like the roller coasters.

Flaps went up fast on this one. Usually they wait until over the ocean
i dont always think AA cuts the engine at JWA, i always see the taking off low and loud
@thebestjustin100 US Airways Express (Mesa) going to Phoenix Sky Harbor
The Fan Jets decrease in power over Newport. Shhhh we're flying over Rich People.

Lol. I did when i first flew. But later learned it was normal. Now im like, yep their just powering down the engines.
Orange County takeoffs are much stepper due to some noise polution thing in the area
I enjoyed that for some reason. It was some how satisfying....?
Yep, and if approved by city council, the jets may soon have to do a "S" and avoid Newport Beach altogether. Should make for a really fun take off
the right side of the plane misses everything
Can see my office at 1:52 at the bottom center.
best comment ever
I really hope the S turn procedure doesn't happen.
When they power down the engines after takeoff, people freak! Its normal though
@thenextdogwhisperer noise abatement :)
that just cannot be safe.
