I don't know where they get reality show contestants but I've seen a lot of fail. The hardest thing would be time management but many contestants on that show don't know jack about metallurgy. They just have generalizations and partial ideas. I've seen this man's website and he's definitely the real deal. Not just a craftsman but also well educated on the science. I don't think we'd see his greatest works of art if he were to compete but I have no doubt that he'd win because he wouldn't be held up by mistakes.

Its not that big of a deal if the contact with material is short. I have done it several times in need. When you do that manny times over well body simple get used to it. Rest is that you accept that's not a horrible thing to do and deal with a little pain. I am not a blacksmith but I have a dream. Also his work is a masterpiece big like.
My great Uncle worked in a copper plant in the 30s. He used to push softened copper into a mould by hand all day. his hands were covered in burn proof callouses. Human adaptation can be amazing.

To keep the art alive, the master will take an apprentice 1-3 people and pass on his knowledge to them. The blacksmith's skill is his earnings, the less people know his tricks, the more his works are valued.
I sprinkle flux (90% borax + 5% quartz sand + 5% charcoal powder) this is necessary for forging (forge) welding. The flux is alloyed with scale - the formed substance is sufficiently fluid and is easily displaced by deformation. In addition, the flux protects against oxygen and charcoal, carburizes the surface layer of metal - which lowers the welding temperature (if in brief).
Absolutely beautiful. We can see about 1/3 or what you're doing but it be nice if you could explain the rest, like where your cut/folds are in relation to the flame nucleus and it's pile in according to the forge weld. Other wise great job!
Dude everything you need to know is right there. The flames find their position when he puts the twists in the bar. Twisting the bar turns the flames sideways. Then when he flattens the bar you see the flames in the cross-section of the twisted four strands. Grinding exposes the cross-section. It's like shaving the sides off a twisted steel rope.

Absolutely beautiful. We can see about 1/3 or what you're doing but it be nice if you could explain the rest, like where your cut/folds are in relation to the flame nucleus and it's pile in according to the forge weld. Other wise great job!
Dude everything you need to know is right there. The flames find their position when he puts the twists in the bar. Twisting the bar turns the flames sideways. Then when he flattens the bar you see the flames in the cross-section of the twisted four strands. Grinding exposes the cross-section. It's like shaving the sides off a twisted steel rope.
