Left out of history books and historical accounts are men like Nathan Nearest Green who provided more than just physical labor. Enslaved men not only made up a significant portion of the distilling workforce, but they often provided the expertise or provided crucial roles in the whiskey-making process. In the same way that white rock-and-roll stars, inventors, and cookbook authors often appropriated music, innovations, and recipes from enslaved black people, white distillery owners took credit for the whiskey and the billion-dollar process that it relies on today.
There were many other men and women like Nearest Green, scattered around the South, who were not give their just due for the contributions they made. Thus, we want to give acknowledgment and celebrate these Black Americans who are not given nearly enough attention and credit for their ingenuity.

Mr. Green's family heirs need way more than "recognition" as stated on the TV program Localish, the Green family deserves equity payments from the Jack Daniels corporation. What's being done to achieve this?
Smiling My Applause Beautiful Sister Queens and Kings for bringing Truth and Light to Nearest Green! How do I purchase "Uncle Nearest?"

I heard this story on NPR sometime ago and what I learned there would have not been a Jack Daniels if it wasn't for Uncle Nathaniel Nearest Green.
And everything I hear is Nearest is way better than Jack.
Well I will go find it!
