- In this video I show some of the native palms and other cool subtropical plants that naturally grow in the South Carolina Lowcountry. I took this video on Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, South Carolina. I hope you enjoy the video!

It's sort of the northern limit for slash pines according to a habitat map I'm looking at.
inaturalist has a checklist of animals and plants found in Pickney Island. As far as pines are concerned on the Island they have the Slash Pine, the Loblolly pine and the Longleaf pine (Pinus palustris).

There are alot of misconceptions about Florida and its climate as far as hardiness zones compared to other states. Central and especially northern Florida have the exact same climate as coastal SC. I've heard quite a few times how surprised people were that SC had palm trees which is funny because the same people would associate los Angeles with palm trees and where I live (Charleston SC) is further south than los Angeles. The only part of Florida that is tropical is south Florida. Florida has everything most of the lower southeast has.
Is it illegal to dig up a few wild natives small palms i see thousand near me were i live ?
I am not sure, it probably depends on local laws so I would look them up for your specific state. My guess is it probably is in parks and wildlife refuges, but I’m sure it is fine on privately owned land with permission. Just keep in mind some of these palms are very root sensitive, and they may die after being dug up so it is probably best to grow them from seed!
