Wow, it was pretty surreal to see two Whose Line originals paired up with the later-season inheritors of the show. Everything seemed to clash - the nationalities, the clothes, the comedic styles, most interesting.
I think he was intended to stay on, but the producers didn't let him and Laurie's friend Emma Thompson on the show. So there was a bit of bad blood I guess.
"Dynasty" was an American nighttime soap opera popular in the 80's. In the 80's, women wore huge pads in the shoulders of their blouses and jackets to make them larger (inexplicably). The joke was the he was making fun of the style he was given.
Watching from the bizarro future world of 2020, I can't believe how young Stephen looks (and yes, I know when this was filmed!) Another golden escape-from-covid find!
You know this may be one of the only episodes of Whose Line, both UK and US, where Ryan and Colin are actually overshadowed by the other two performers. Josie and Stephen have so much chemistry here and Stephen is an absolute laugh either way.
Has nobody else noticed that Ryan is walking funny? It looks like his back must have been WAY out of whack or he's favoring a hip at least. Poor guy must be in awful pain - yet there he is, working! What a trooper!
Well it's true he's had a bad back for most of the US show, probably from being so tall. And from carrying Drew and others for so long. He's 1.98 and 61 now, seemingly not participating in games that require being moved a lot anymore.
@@Venomonomonom carrying the others? Are you mental? Ryan is fantastic but don't you dare put down Colin, Greg, Brad, Chip, Wayne, Jeff, Mike, Tony and the rest of the fantastic rotating cast of both versions
"Is the Parthenon in Athens?" classic Sorma, I like how you provide lists of the games in every segment :) Stephen is so droll. Love him. He also worked quite extensively with Hugh Laurie from "House" quite extensively in years past. I just now got the joke of him ripping out her shoulderpads during the "Dynasty" segment. Clever!
@@Sui_Generis0 in dynasty the women wore large shoulder pads (it was the 80s) so he pretended to take them out so he could put his hands on her shoulders
@Lamporre He's ripping out the "shoulder pads" (which were hugely popular among women in the 80's, especially on TV), in order to get a better grip for the shaking.
Stephen Fry is one of the few non-Australians I've come across who can actually pull off an Aussie accent. Josie's also quite good at it but she can't beat Gabriel Iglesias' Croc Hunter impression. (considering I'm Australian)
Stephen is pulling out imaginary shoulder pads from Josie. For those too young to know, Dynasty was an 80's tv show where all the female characters power-dressed and wore huge shoulder pads.
@CanItAlready: I wouldn't say he felt this was beneath him, but I do agree that he does seem out of place! I don't think he's particularly at ease, unlike some of the others.
Why were so many of the performers on the show American even long before the producers moved it to Los Angeles? By this time in the UK run, the cast was usually over half American (this episode is an exception). I never understood that. (As an American I don't mind that they did since we'd never have had Whose Line US without the established set of American performers who were already veterans of the UK show. ) I use "American" in the continent sense here (to include Canada).
have you not seen any of his work? He's a comedy great. It seemed to me that he was playing on being called and intellectual in his intro. It's an improv show, you do whatever comes to mind, it's not like he planned it out to make himself look good.
Forgive me for not knowing who Stephen Fry is, but he seems completely out of place here. Like a British version of Dennis Miller. Seemed like he felt this form of entertainment was beneath him.
Colin's incredibly random "What have you done with my family?!" is so fantastic LOL
I love how well Ryan and Colin work together!
"Will you please stop going off!"
"Damn Gestapo, they fixed my fingers to my eyes"
XD That had me laughing on the floor
OMG Stephen Fry, Colin Mochrie, AND Ryan Stiles in the same room? How has the studio not have exploded from the AWESOME?!
"This is a simulator, you know that dont you?" lol XD
Wow, it was pretty surreal to see two Whose Line originals paired up with the later-season inheritors of the show. Everything seemed to clash - the nationalities, the clothes, the comedic styles, most interesting.
Oh god the clothes. Why did most of the American performers, and basically everyone on the American version, have such daggy clothes?
Stephen Fry is an unexpected beast/master at improvization O_O He should've been on the show more often.
I think he was intended to stay on, but the producers didn't let him and Laurie's friend Emma Thompson on the show. So there was a bit of bad blood I guess.
@@k-leb4671this episode was my discovery of Stephen Fry. I loved hearing him speak Latin at the start of Questions Only.
i love how stephen and josie's clothes match, and ryan and colin's clothes match!

The roller coaster scene was genius
That sound effects was really good!
Oh my god... this is my DREAM panel....
Without a doubt, the best Sound Effects ever...

I prefer listening to him with his English accent in Blackadder esp. Blackadder Goes Fourth
"Sorry, it's the damn Gestapo. They've fixed my fingers to my eyes!"
@QingTien Don't forget Josie Lawrence!

Fry's American accent is amazing!
That roller coaster bit went a little... *off the rails*
I thought it was the Acropolis, where the Parthenon is, not the other way round...lol
Did Clive just mention the TV soap, Neighbours at 0:30
I tried clicking on part 2 but it said the video was private... ?
Stephen Fry's American accent is hilarious
7:33-7:40 what exactly is he doing? And why does it make Josie laugh so hard?
I’d like to know too!

@QingTien
It's because Tony Slattery wasn't there as a fifth guest.

Stephen Fry doing any musical numbers.... he had a bad experience at school which left him unable to sing.
