    I dont know but MAngel seem and looks intimidated by Katrina's performance. It's pretty clear that she's in awe after watching the video. Her reaction cannot deny that she was stunned and blown away.

      Gabriel Mendoza I dont think M-Angel said she didnt like it in general. She just mentioned that the performance didnt touch her emotionally but that doesnt mean that it was a bad performance.

      Would of her opinion be different if she was just listening to the song without the video? Watching someone singing and feeling is SUBJECTIVE. M-Angel is known insecure because she sounds like a frog. She should have given her objective opinion about the notes or pitch but knowing her. hahaha

    • @nellhizole6047
      @nellhizole6047 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are all entitled of our own opinion (objective or not). M-Angel is no different. For her the performance was amazing but ket us not forget the fact that there are extravagant performances that dont leave marks in our senses. There are also performances which are simple but do touch our hearts. Maybe for M-Angel this was a good performance but not good enough to move her. As simple as that. we do not need to compare people to animals here pls.

    it was actually REGINE VELASQUEZ who started all this belting more than 30 years ago,that is why she is the queen and that version is Regine velasquez version.

    Im from Philippines, but first time i heard about Katrina and i was blown away with her angelic and powerful voice.. Her performance was exceptionally good and soothing to the ears...You are right about us Filipino belting out songs.. We typically call it "birit".. but good observation.

    you are absolutely correct my love Ovela. belting is often anticipated in Pinoy performances. it gives the excitement and it showcases the singing prowess of the performer. well, Regine had set the benchmark for that here in the Philippines.

    Ovela made good pt about how pinoys love belting and thats most of what pinoys cheer for during karaoke time. (you are starting to understand pinoy culture man). M-Angel comments maybe coming from the fact that this version was the regine velasquez' version (unknowingly Katrina was proving she can live up to regine's standards) and the way it was perform from the beginning requires build up coming from a regine velasquez' mellow tone... and Katrina's low/mellows may come as "thin" not reaching a "singers" fancy.

    • @naessean1425
      @naessean1425 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lisandro Castolome another thought is that, filipino's likes the belting part because filipinos areborn singers, but not all can belt.so we admire those that can.

  • @ejcsp
    @ejcsp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You should notice that this is Regine Velasquez's version. This is actually how the musicians arrange the music here (even for covers), from low notes then starting to build up til they belt out.

    your observation towards filipino singing style is absolutely and exactly correct. we filipino appriciate alot of singers who can sing beyond, and we usually immitate the foreign singers. maybe thats the reason why you heard alot of them with familiar or sounded like the singer who originally sang the song.

    filipino standard: the higher the note, higher the chance to win. In any contest here when you hit the high notes perfectly youll win for sure. they dont usually care in lownotes and some techniques.

  • @nellhizole6047
    @nellhizole6047 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your observations are correct guys :) Most of the time, especially in singing contests here in Philippines, what most people would like see and hear is the belting part to get that satisfaction and to say that it was a great performance. Great reactions and comments Ovela and M-Angel! Ma buhay!!!

  • @JewelPopCulture
    @JewelPopCulture 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Haha Ovela you are learning. Yes. You are right. It is tough to be a singer in the Philippines because a lot of singers here can belt. It is a matter of who can hit the highest note. May it be in the Television or just a small competition in a Town's Festival hitting those high notes is a must. If you can hit it you can win it.

    @gimmetv88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow! M-Angel is becoming more and more harder to please now since the day she reacted to her first Pinoy singer...and Ovela's opinion on the performance is so on point..that's how Filipinos look for in their singers nowadays specially the music labels now..they have a very very high standards when it comes to singing..and that's what M-Angel is looking for when a Filipino singer is singing now...they have to be emotionally connected to the audience and feeling what they're singing as well...But to tell you honestly, she did great..I'm not gonna lie! It was a live performance and it's not like a recorded performance that it needs to be perfect...anything goes when it happens live..

  • @lesmorosi
    @lesmorosi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Katrina is known for her high sustained belting and I listen to her for that. KZ is about performance and originality and I expect that from her. Morissette is for her voice and style (and the whistle). These three are, in my opinion, the best female singing artists today that come from the Philippines.

    Birit(belting) has been staple of Filipino singing. It all started with a competition show called Ang Bangong Kampeon(The New Champions). Now everyone of these performers are good to the point that the only way to win the competition is to belt higher or to belt the longest in a song. This made Regine Velasquez famous for being probably the only contestant who can reach high notes week after week among many amatuers. Regine won and that became a staple of many would be singers as well. Regine herself made singing competitions that made new talents like Sarah Geronimo & Jonalyn Viray.

    For me belting is so typical now from Filipina singers that what I look for now is technique and control. On a side note, I'm sure that someone would have mentioned by now that Flipino power singing partly evolved form the many singing competitions in the Philippines, but let me add there's also the barrio and town fiestas - a yearly thanksgiving celebration for the whole town which most times include a singing competition with prizes which is a cheap way to entertain the people. As you can imagine the number of them each year one can participate in you can see how our singers evolved and continue to evolve in order to get on top of that heap.

    That was a great observation and one of the reasons why Regine is the song Goddess! It is commonly known as Regine's flair. Regine's transition from one key to the next and to the next and to the next is always flawless and her trademark. Katrina in my personal opinion is on track in making it huge in the industry. She is flawless and I could sometimes hear Regine in her performances. Truly talented and I hope she will be given a chance to shine!

    HI guys, thanks for reacting to Katrina. She is one of the most underrated singers in PH. She's been joining singing contests since she was very young. She's signed w/ a label but we hardly hear anything from her. Most of her videos on YT are recorded from her bedroom where she uses a comb as her mic, so she is known as Suklay (Comb) Diva. I'm just happy that for the 1st time, we finally have a decent video of her singing, thanks to Wish 1075. I'm really thankful for Wish because theses singers that perform on this bus, most of them are quite unknown.

So, if you got the chance to sing near her capabilities, you're spectacular. Ovella is correct. But i totally understand Angel's thoughts. We cannot please everyone coz some people would choose "quality" over "quantity". I am glad that MGN is very honest and opinionated on every video they make. M-Angel is a singer so she will be more critical but there is a difference between being objectively critical and enviously critical. I myself feel envious of her high notes but I accept the fact she got the gift. If virtues can be downloaded online...the easier to uploads are: Ego, Pride, etc... but the hardest one and maybe expensive are: Humilty which can shroud a person Honesty.

    If your an aspiring singer in The Philippines, you have to know how to belt songs if u wanna make it in the industry. Philippines has a lot of great singers cause there's karaoke at almost every household (it's almost a house essential lol) and singing competition at every village. therefore kids in The Philippines grow up hearing their relatives singing (good or bad) and they end up singing as well but since they're young, they learn quickly and through the years are able to perfect their voice. plus it also helps that their inspirational singers are usually Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Celine Dion etc..

    All love for M-angel for being so true. For me, this is one of the most jaw-dropping performances in the Wish bus. But that's just me. Each person would have a different opinion. If M-angel does not like it, it does not mean she's bitter or what not. It does not even matter if she can sing better than Katrina - that's just not the point. Accepting each other's point of view and opinion is what we call OPEN-MINDEDNESS. And it's something we must all embrace. Can't we just appreciate the fact that these two reactors are not lying to our face and pretending to like something they don't? I think that's the point of these react channels - to show us their pure reaction and not to just blindly agree with us entirely so they can earn TH-cam money while we feed our egos.

    Certainly. I think filipino music sways more towards showcasing the vocal range. Thats why sometimes theyre dubbed as karaoke singers because they are in a way... A few can combine excellent singing AND actually singing with emotions (ie Regine, Morisette, Lea) and most of the younger kids think that hitting the high notes and singing with emotions are the same thing. Its a great divide.

    Most of the filipino wants to hear high notes. the more higher the more we enjoy the music. but some of them loves the low and slow rock.

    u hit it ovela! most of the filipinos have this inate melody when they sing but having a pipe is a skill .. when u join the singing contest here you need to hit the high notes, its like a 3 point shot in a sec in basketball where u feel high .. i feel her version is magical ..

    She is actually one of the singer that were being discovered through youtube way back, most of them had been influenced by Regine Velasquez, The Asia's Song bird. Her version is based on Regine's Go the Distance, and yes her belting power is superb as well. Regine Velasquez set up the standard of singing through Belting but with emotions for all uprising singers in Philippines

    In the Filipino language, we have this term "birit" which is what you termed "belting" which most Filipino singers have a knack for.

    hitting the high notes is a plus factor for a singer here in the Philippines but it doesnt guarantee fame. Successful singers here should be like total package...personality, beauty and talent. i dont know probably bcoz alot here can sing that they are not gonna be impressed anymore with just a great voice.

    I agree Katrina should focus on the emotion and dynamics. She should feel the song to give more emotions. She could be perfect when she learns it. She doesn't copy celine though that is her natural voice..hehe

      Mark Rayver Gonzales i really think that she is already a storyteller through her voice.. i don't know what emotions you need?

      Mark Rayver Gonzales agreed. She was too focused in delivering a technically perfect singing, which was indeed great. But emotionwise, its pretty dry. But great singing though!

      She meant Katrina shouldn't show off her skill like belting at the end of the song. It's supposed to be slow and calm.
