  • Goats Don’t Shave perform ‘Las Vegas In the Hills of Donegal’
Formed circa 1989 and led by singer/songwriter Pat Gallagher, ‘Goats Don’t Shave’ are an Irish folk rock band from County Donegal. The band were on the musical turn on ‘Scaoil Amach an Bobailín’ in February 1991. ‘Las Vegas in the Hills of Donegal’ describes a wish to turn County Donegal into a gambling hub. References are also made to personalities from popular and business culture including Jack the Ripper, Neil Blaney, Brigitte Nielsen, Mike Tyson and Donald Trump.
Where Donald Trump would like a chunk to live in solitaire
The song was a hit for Goats Don’t Shave in 1992, reaching number 4 on the Irish singles chart. The album The Rusty Razor went gold in Ireland on its release.
This episode of ‘Scaoil Amach an Bobailín’ was broadcast on 3 February 1991.
′Scaoil Amach an Bobailín′ was an Irish-language television programme featuring comedy sketches, rock music and debate on social and political issues. Loosely translated as ‘Let It All Hang Out’, the programme was designed to be zany, informal and appeal to Irish speakers both inside and outside the Gaeltacht. It was presented by Seán Bán Breathnach and Cynthia Ní Mhurchú. There were also two young reporters, Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí and Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, who went around the country looking for lively stories.
‘Scaoil Amach an Bobailín’ was first broadcast on 7 October 1990 and ran until 1992.

Goats Don't Shave, They do in my town, they wear fine cotton shirts and flowery ties and are respected by all they meet. They go to all the dances for miles around at weekends and have the very best times. After they head back home and head out into the hills to graze on the very best grass and tell each other stories until the week-end when the fun starts all over again

I understand them well enough, but haven’t a clue what these lads are singin’ about. I very much enjoyed the video though; thanks for uploading!
