25x magnification binocular??? You better bring a giant tripod and a backpack to haul that thing around because there's no way you're free handing 25x binoculars. I think an 8x or 10x power binocular is more than sufficient.
Good stuff. But if I can offer an alternative to #5, consider not taking a camera. As I get older, a take fewer and fewer pictures and find I enjoy the actual experience more and more. Consider something like journaling for your memories. And if you want to see a picture of a whale or a video of a lumberjack show, there a million of them on line.
Hi Bill! I agree in most cases. However, when it comes to wildlife, phones just don't have the technology yet. Sure they have digital zooms, but the quality degrades very quickly. Samsung has a decent 10x optical in their newer phones, a couple of other brands too. I was hoping the new iphone would have 10x, but only 5x optical in the new models, and only in the Pro Max. So that is around 120mm equivalent on a full frame camera, which is fine until it comes time to try to photograph / film Alaskan wildlife from a distance. I like your journaling idea though!

Instead of an umbrella, which won't keep you warm, why not pack a quality rain suit? (FootJoy, Nike, Zero Restriction, Callaway, etc)
