    This combo is sooo underated. I work in video and photography and I see too many people talk down to these body and lens combination. I think that for average user this is more than enough if you use it right, or even if you leave it on Auto mode. Great video! Likes and respect from Vietnam. Subscribed. Happy shooting!

      Right? Especially the body is freaking amazing. I am having more and more fun using it, especially with the prime lenses 🙌 and I couldnt agree with you more Thong - most users (especially photographers) would be perfectly capable capturing amazing shots with this lens. And thanks for your sub mate, much appreciated. Vietnam is a lovely country (it was the last country I visited just before pandemic) Be safe out there 🇻🇳

    No doubt there's better quality lenses, but I always go back to this lens because of it's size and versatility, not that I have many lenses anyway. I have a long zoom lens, a manual focus wide angle lens, and a a few older lenses from a film camera I can attach with an adapter that include a macro lens and a 50mm lens. But a majority of the pictures I take are when I go hiking or am otherwise out and about. Most of the time I want a wider angle lens for most shots I take, but my dedicated wide lens is heavier and not convenient since it's manual focus. I also want to zoom in on some things sometimes so using the wide angle lens only doesn't work. Carrying around the zoom lens definitely wouldn't work. I enjoy taking pictures for fun and try not to sink a ton of money into it, so the kit lens is my most often go to. As I've heard said before, the best camera is the one you have with you. Anything too heavy to carry around on a hike just isn't going to be used. I've taken some pretty nice shots with the kit lens over the years as I've traveled around US national parks and other scenic places.

    Now i use a6500 + 16-55/2.8. But in the past, my camera was a6000 + this lens kit. It always be the good combo for beginner, so compact for travelling, focal range... just a little bit not good in lowlight and not really sharp.

    • @gamesbymanuel
      @gamesbymanuel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TomsJurjaks That is part of why I'm discouraged. I'm new to this so the camera + kit lens was already a considerable investment for me and I am not ready to buy new lens yet (but I would love better low light performance).

    • @TomsJurjaks
      @TomsJurjaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@gamesbymanuel and a very "fast" lens (meaning the one with a wide aperture like f1.4 or f1.8) will help you with low light. But yes, you are right, photography is not a cheap hobby and actually those 2 Sigma lenses I mentioned are considered "cheap" compared to other lenses. Nevertheless, don't let the lack of cash stop you. Do your best and squeeze out the maximum from the gear you have. This is what my channel is about - how to get the most of what you have and work with low budget. You can still make quite good photos as you have seen in this video even with a kit lens. I would have much better photos if I would be out in nature (since I mostly do landscape photography), so do master the craft of photography first and only then think about the upgrade of your lenses. Good luck man!

      @TomsJurjaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Renato, I've never used the 18-105 but I can highly recommend it. Its perfect for your needs. It goes wide enough on the wide end and that 105mm is gonna be legit on a crop sensor camera like a6000, you gonna get ton of reach. Ive heard only good things about it.
      Get the 18-105 and then IF needed, secondary one could be Sigma 30mm or 56mm f1.4 for portrait or detail photos with a perfect bokeh. 🔥

      The 85mm f1.8 that I used is a beast but please keep in mind that its a full frame lens so on Sony a6000 its about 135mm which is awesome focal length but not too versatile. So if you only wanna get one prime, get something more used like 30 or 50-56mm.

    Really nice and helpful video, Toms! Im about to make a trip in Europe this January and i was really concerned if the kit lens could work for decent landscapes shots and definitively this would work. i I only Just bringing wth me a Sigma 30mm and the kit lens and will save for a Sigma 16mm for later next year since this video showed me that it is not a must. Thanks and greetings from México! Hope one day i can visit your beautiful country!

      Hey Mike, such nice comment. Thanks! And yes you are right. For landscapes and architecture you should be totally fine. You will see bit softer results comparing to premium lenses but I think the Sigma 30 really compliments your setup for sharp, detailed shots.
      Good luck in your travels. Saludos amigo!

    Can I use Sigma 56mm as portrait lens?

      Monojit, Sigma 56mm is an absolutely amazing lens for portraits. I would choose that million times over 16mm. The Sigma 16mm is for other purposes - perfect for videos, also great for closeups and full body portraits. You can check out my review on that lens where I use it the most.

I will pro lighting in studio so I really need your help if you do not mind. thank you

    • @TomsJurjaks
      @TomsJurjaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Fatih, it sounds like you have a very controlled environment which makes lens' job easier. If you have pro lightning and a tripod then you don't need fancy lens. To be honest, the kit lens would even be good enough. The only exception is if you really need shallow depth of field, then a prime lens would be better but for product photography, I don't see a reason why would you need shallow depth of field. Why don't you try working with your kit lens?

      You can use "Warp Stabilizer" effect in Premiere Pro, but its not the best because sometimes it can have weird effect on the video. Alternately, you can get a lens with OSS

    • @TomsJurjaks
      @TomsJurjaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No Andrew. When someone says "50mm" - they mean a fixed focal length lens (also known as prime lens). Popular from prime lens is 50mm f1.8. The 16-50 or 18-55 (depending on brand) is a zoom lens.

    Why not for video?

    • @TomsJurjaks
      @TomsJurjaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not the best because of several reasons:
      1) It does not have constant aperture, which means you will need to adjust the light if you zoom in / out;
      2) It does not have a filter thread, it means you can't put on a ND filter and can't achieve cinematic look by applying 180 degree rule;
      3) As soon as you zoom in a bit, the f-stop will be f5.6 which is quite poor for wide angle as object will not stand out and everything will be in focus.
      On a plus side, it has OSS which is nice. Don't get me wrong, you CAN use it for videos, but I would always choose any other lens than this for videos. For photos it is great tho.
