First off I just want to say your channel is amazing, I truly appreciate how ur not afraid to try things most RC lovers aren’t willing to do (swapping/trying other parts) your creativity and just being able to visualize the process and your final product. Its Truly a “ArtForm”..: keep inspiring others, u have an amazing gift , thank u for all u do brother ..all that said I love this truck so much, what servo upgrade would u recommend? Working on my rebuild right now !!
Thanks dude I really appreciate that so much!!! I have not actually done a servo upgrade on this yet lol. I just need to measure it and see what I can find within those measurements. Let me know if you find one!

@@hondashadowfrontcaliperrebuild sorry man! Didn’t mean to do that to you.😁 I’m not near a computer right now so this is tedious to post the link but in this video in the video description there is a link to the ZTW 2s to 4s 120A ESC. About $40 and I used it in my Traxxas Bandit to over 100 mph! It is a tight fit, but it just fits in the truck. th-cam.com/video/t8d8Ggw7er4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gD5LlPZvRtchI1tm
Excellent video! Love the channel and truck. I got an Anycubic Vyper 3d printer about a year ago and it has completely changed how I RC. I can't recommend enough that you learn. I've been rc'ing for near 30 years now. I started with tinkercad to design parts which you can learn in about an hour, and have moved on to fusion 360 and solid works. I can now think of a part I need, design it, print it, and test it out in about an hour in most cases. Total game changer. Keep up the good work!
If u do not mind me asking what does the printer I kinda new to RC. Pick up as a hobby for old man 70 Buddy in the motor city as been at it for years. I in Vegas. He’s in Detroit. I just wanna know guy. Please
Good point! I didn’t do much running in grass, but I don’t recall any temp issues. I’ve used this combo on a few different cars now and have never had a temp problem. It also has a temp cutoff for the motor and esc. It’s set to the lowest of the heat temps and it never cut off. In thick grass and a hot day, it would probably get somewhat warm. On the stock motor, I just happened to touch it by accident and I noticed how hot it was, so I didn’t think to feel it afterwards with the Hobbywing.
This is the vid I was waiting for! I love my 2997a, but wish I was as adventurous/capable as you for mods like this. At the very least, I've also considered swapping the shocks for something less bouncy.
Glad you liked it! You never know, you might be able to make it happen. Could play the video on super ultra slow mode and follow along lol. The shocks alone would help a lot! I don’t know what weight comes in the Omni shocks, which would be helpful, but maybe 20k-30k weight less thick than what’s in them would probably do the trick.
I enjoyed the video. It's amazing the car survived at all with those very hard landings on the parking lot. I thought the fact that there was little or diff grease or oil in the diffs should tell people to check those out in almost any inexpensive rtr.
Thanks! Yup, really even the high end brands need the diffs checked. Almost always too low if there’s any at all. Crazy. I was atleast expecting a tiny bit of grease like there was in the front and rear lol
So glad to see this! Ive got this truck and it is impressive, and priced right. Ive abused mine aplenty and still going. 3s will shred some tires lol. Thanks! Subscribed❤
This is the exact build I'm working on. I've only the wheels and shocks left to upgrade. Looks like my reluctance to buy the parts is now gone as it appears to improve things massively. Ace video as always. Thanks!
I didn’t notice much ballooning. Wasn’t really looking for it but of course you typically will notice especially with high speed and backflips. Only time I noticed it was during the long wheelies since it has the center diff, it puts much more speed into the front axle during wheelies
Dude love seeing this and I can't wait for the Terminator upgrades, I've done some to mine. How would you compare this and the Terminator to the Traxxas Maxx ? Been looking at them pretty hard but my wife thinks I'm insane haha!!
Awesome!! Yup I’ve got a tons of the upgraded rlaarlo parts coming plus another good motor combo! The Maxx looks pretty sweet. I’d probably love it but never driven one. I do love my outcast 4s! Oh we’re definitely insane!! 🤪
Awesome video! As always. Massive air! 😂 With a bigger 3s battery mine went 45+ mph stock (42 with a low performance LIPO that fit in the stock tray) and 60 mph on the stock motor running the 2 stock 2s LIPOs in series. It is a HANDFULL at 60 mph on the stock tires! That stock F540 motor can be pretty quick! On a XTeam 3650 5400kv it hit 43 on 2s and 61 on 3S and 65 mph before dying violently on 4s but it was not happy spinning that fast to say the least! My runs were in a really big open area though with pre warmed LIPOs.
Love the content, picked up a HBX 2997a as my first RC car. I was wondering what usually breaks first so I might have spare parts on hand. I know you did some pretty awesome upgrades; I was curious if any other RC cars part would fit up to this truck.

YOU NEED TO 3D-PRINT A BIGGER BATTERY TRAY (2-TIER-STRUCTURE) TO SIT ON TOP OF THE SMALL TRAY BUT IS FIXED IN THE CAR WITH THE LOWER TIER FILLING UP THE SPACE OF THE FACTORY BATTERY. IT WILL ALLOW FOR A STANDARD SIZE LIPO TO FIT UNDER THE BODY.😊 ...... YOU ARE WELCOME BRO.

I'm loving mine.. although I wish the wing wouldn't have ripped off first time out! That truck looks way more cool with the wing than without. It could definitely use a shock upgrade, though, over stock. Or maybe just different fluid? I did same as you with the diffs, too; just packed in some grease, which seems to help. Great video!
Yes looks much better with a wing. I’m surprised mine stayed on lol. Ya these shocks are better and more durable too! The stock shocks could use a bit thicker fluid, these need a bit thinner.
Hey man you should do a video puting different tires on your favourite cars, just for extra fun. Like: Rlaarlo with 1/10 tires, Vorteks with drift tires (!), the mjx super grippy tires in the hbx?
Hope you can help me out I need a center rear center body mount. It's for my hnx 6889 just got a new body for it but can't mount the rear. Do you know where I can buy one
I wasn’t in my truck so no measuring devices with me. I’d say atleast 2,364 feet but I’ll try to measure next time 😂 I’ll definitely be hitting it again soon!
Your motor/esc upgrade turned out a bit better then mine did! Mine cogs a bit and put much bigger tires on for flips and wheelies. Almost time for the mk07 to arrive!
I had one of those in my old Holyton RC car from like 3 years ago. Wasn’t bad, but man can you feel the difference between that and the HW. Still good stuff especially for the price!
Very nice! Those were some insane jumps! I got the older version (2996) a while back thanks to you and got it brushed on sale for super cheap because I wanted to upgrade it form the start and appart from the body it's still intact, very solid! It's got a cheaper 3650 4300kv motor and it tends to overheat on 3s so I put a fan on it but still might change it to a 3900kv or something better. Next step is the servo 😉. Thanks again for the awesome content!
Yeah, man, great fun as always! And I think it is pretty much settled: Any knowledge to be found on this cahssis/platform, you have a video that covers it. (I had the Flyhal variant out the other day, it was awesome but I busted a shock cap almost right away, just received a better replacement one and will have it back in action soon'ish)
Thanks dude! 😃 Can’t wait for these bigger scale “budget” cars to come out! Ya the Flyhal shocks aren’t as good as the 2997a shocks. I believe I also had that happen with mine. Plastic bodies vs metal bodies.
Damn bro, that thing is all sorts of bad ass now!! Great video for sure and you freakin nailed the triple diple on the first try… nice! Them Rlaarlo shocks are real cush. Made that little truck float nicer… from what I saw.
Thanks dude! Ya it’s a monster! Yes these shocks are an improvement over stock, but still could use slightly thinner fluid since it’s lighter weight than the Omni.
@@DerbyCityRC I swear I was thinking that exact thing (lighter fluid) about the weight difference… put that oil in there and it will stick them landings
It helps delegate power between front and rear axles. Moves the power to where there is least resistance which helps the car stay better planted on the ground and helps lower shock to the drivetrain for durability. Yes I did! Always looking for more!
@@DerbyCityRC not yet Evan! I was just waiting for this vid! ...so you have also changed the shocks oil with a thinner one or is a final suggestion to us to try it?
@GaetanoCrisci I haven’t changed the fluid yet as I still need the shocks for my Omni lol. I wish I knew what weight was in the Omni shocks, but I think I’d maybe try some 30wt shock fluid first and adjust from there unless what drained out seemed much thicker.
Thanks!! I was able to get this HyperGo battery in there, which says it’s 92mm long and 33mm wide. The width was about as wide as it could go, but you could still fit a slightly longer battery in it before it would interfere with the steering linkage. amzn.to/3Vquy11
Nice triple backflip and you made some distance on the stairs gap! The 2997a is starting to look pretty attractive! Glad to see the terminator isn't the only one (at this 10-12th scale) that has dogbone pin breakage. We terminator bros may need your help for solving our diffcup/axle issue. People are wrecking cvd's, dogbone pins, and diffcups wayy more than they're accustomed to. One guy mounted some Traxxas telescopic axles to completely bypass those issues. He had to deepen the bearing seat inside the hub, to allow for that mod... so I (and i bet, others) wonder if arrma may have 'compatible' axles in terms of hub/bearing spacing and size. Would you be in a position to explore that? 🤔
Thanks! Yes I love this truck! I have several of the rlaarlo upgrade parts coming for a build on that too. I would think those parts would solve this issue but maybe not? I’ll hopefully be able to take a look at some alternatives. My only real option I have is the Arrma 3s axles lol
@@CoastalForests my excuse in advance for this rant. I've had droop since day 1. But i don't want to lower it to where it's basically a roadcar. I have the suspension set up for stunting, which is what the car is advertised and built to do. I don't believe the problem is solved, because Rlaarlo has said they're revising *even* the S2 parts. And they're still experimenting with hardness of their parts. This is all straight from the horse's mouth. Even if it was solely due to droop (which i doubt), it's something that the company should have tested for and addressed before they started shipping the car out. To now simply say it's our fault for using self righting as some users suggest (again, advertised, plus, plenty of users with worn diffcups dont use self righting at all) and that, for using the car as advertised (on stock power) we need upgraded parts... yeah no, that's not how you treat customers. *If* they did any inhouse testing, they would proudly show us the difference between droop/no droop and s2 parts/no s2 parts. It's not hard to setup a test bench for that. -They only reply to customers who strongly critique them, or when they want to use their media -People are still ripping pins out of their S2 dogbones/cvds, just like i have on the first pack, but no word from Rlaarlo or Edison (or warranty). So in conclusion, I'm going the telescopic axle route. They don't act like they deserve my money. I'm not sweating the 80 bucks in dogbones/cvds/diffcups, but if the standard cvd's EAT the s2 diffcups (as evidenced by users), i highly doubt it's going to perform much better. If it's the droop, i don't need either part, then the car needs different axles. At least in my mind that's how it works. Now, having to wait for youtubers like Derby City RC to test those s2 parts, adds insult to injury. Rlaarlo should have shipped out some s2 kits to youtubers so they can show us what they're like. Wonder why they didn't but i have a feeling. Thanks @derby city RC for keeping us entertained, interested and engaged! And for taking the monetary hit, showing us what none of us have seen so far; the s2 parts performance.
Yup those cups should have been a harder metal. Like you said they apparently made a running change to the hardnesses. Most of my parts came but I have so many videos in the works I don’t know for sure when it will be done but Im pretty stoked about it so as soon as possible! Already got a majority installed but still waiting on more. 😃
Had an awesome run with my 2997a today, I'm still running stock electronics, hit over 50, dropped a hint in the short I uploaded. I'm gonna get everything I can out of the stock motor/esc then upgrades are waiting on the work bench. This is such a great truck, especially for the $ Great video, send me 1 of those Derby decals and I'll represent 😂
It is a great trick! I’ll check that short. Gotta get me some of the new stickers printed! 😃 remind me again in a couple weeks. Working in a few others.
Those tires! I run my cars mostly on asphalt. I had to get some cheapies to put on my terminator. The stock tires are awesome, just real grippy. Causes too many rollovers and flipped over when hitting brakes. The on road tires are screamers! Tip: use locktite LMAO
Have you seen my videos on it? I love it. Takes a little longer to ship, but it’s worth the wait in my opinion. Which option terminator were you thinking?
@@kill5326 Definitely! It is a great RC. One recommendation: Get the Black one. They are both great, but the transmitter with the green colored one is kinda crappy, I already replaced it and that alone pays for the upgraded car.
I have a question for ya sir, I know if anyone would know that it would be you! Do you know how many teeth are on the center diff/spur gear on the 2997a? I know the pinion is 16, just trying to figure out the gear ratio while we're loading a Cad file to cnc an adjustable motor mount for this thing! Never thought i would like anything smaller than a 10th scale truck but thanks to you, I'm hooked on this little beast 😅
Not sure how I missed this! Sorry. I don’t know off hand but I have one sitting out I can count here shortly. Just respond to this so I have a reminder. An adjustable mount would be awesome for this!!
@@DerbyCityRC Thank you, we're working on the mount for it, I've already discussed it with @briansrcstuff also and I will send you both a mount after we finish it and make sure it is good! Thanks
Oh cool, I appreciate that! Thanks! I have another project planned and that car may be the one I use. Hopefully he also counted 60 teeth and I’m not wrong 😂. He’s definitely a good advocate for that car as well!!
Maybe Creepy Pete is just a fan and was trying to get a sneak peek before the video dropped? I mean, I'm just speculating is all. It definitely wasn't me, and there's no way I could possibly know who it was or what they were doing.
That’s what I’m saying. I’ve done a review on the original product. It’s the best cheap car for an upgrade when still in the original form. How you upgrade it is up to you, but this is a good one to follow.
Oh boy! That’s a tough one especially with so many categories, but maybe the outcast 4s. It’s huge and rolls well through grass, jumps and flips so good, affordable parts and easy to work on. Wide stance so doesn’t tumble easy so handles nicely. Tuneable center diff. Wheelies for days but settles down easily with trigger modulation. Durable. 😃😆
Some people already have this car. It ships quicker if Amazon doesn’t have the Omni in stock. It’s also usually cheaper with its sale price. Some people may prefer the way it looks. 😃

That mk07 is pretty wicked! Hope you like it too!
I used a surpass hobby motor esc combo. F540 4370kv. I killed the og esc in snow so replaced with an upgrade!
I had one of those in my old Holyton RC car from like 3 years ago. Wasn’t bad, but man can you feel the difference between that and the HW. Still good stuff especially for the price!
dude this thing is sick!
I agree thanks dude!!
Cool! Ya I still love the 2995 I built. Body even in somewhat good shape 😆
3900kv might be better! Thanks Mike!!
Can’t wait for these bigger scale “budget” cars to come out!
Ya the Flyhal shocks aren’t as good as the 2997a shocks. I believe I also had that happen with mine. Plastic bodies vs metal bodies.
I recently purchased this hbx truck, I keep breaking front axles, is there a better option than just buying the stock ones from hbx
nice review. is the 2997a chassis the same as HBX 2996a?
Thanks. Yes the chassis is the same
Nice triple, deff need a little basher like that
Thanks! Yes you do!
I think so!!
Another rad video sir 🤘 that thing took a beating and looks great, cool project 😎
Thanks! Awesome car for an upgrade! 😃
What is benefit of center diffrential? BTW you found new location
It helps delegate power between front and rear axles. Moves the power to where there is least resistance which helps the car stay better planted on the ground and helps lower shock to the drivetrain for durability.
Yes I did! Always looking for more!
Great video man, I can’t believe you haven’t tried the wheels you had on the 2995 upgrade u did.
Thanks! I thought about it, but then it would be almost the same car 😆.
Those are still an excellent option.
Wow WoW WoW finally!!!🎉❤
Woohoo!! Did you try these parts out yet?
@@DerbyCityRC not yet Evan! I was just waiting for this vid! ...so you have also changed the shocks oil with a thinner one or is a final suggestion to us to try it?
@GaetanoCrisci I haven’t changed the fluid yet as I still need the shocks for my Omni lol. I wish I knew what weight was in the Omni shocks, but I think I’d maybe try some 30wt shock fluid first and adjust from there unless what drained out seemed much thicker.
Nice shirt.
Thanks!! 😃
Can you do jumping through flames? or rocket mods or turbine engine mounted for extra power?
I’m considering doing some stuff. Not sure what or when.
Your vids are always funny!
Also, do u remember how big of a battery u were able to put in it, after moving the esc?
Thanks!! I was able to get this HyperGo battery in there, which says it’s 92mm long and 33mm wide. The width was about as wide as it could go, but you could still fit a slightly longer battery in it before it would interfere with the steering linkage. amzn.to/3Vquy11
NEW VID LETS GOOOOO
🔥🔥🔥
To now simply say it's our fault for using self righting as some users suggest (again, advertised, plus, plenty of users with worn diffcups dont use self righting at all)
and that, for using the car as advertised (on stock power) we need upgraded parts... yeah no, that's not how you treat customers.
*If* they did any inhouse testing, they would proudly show us the difference between droop/no droop and s2 parts/no s2 parts. It's not hard to setup a test bench for that.
-They only reply to customers who strongly critique them, or when they want to use their media
-People are still ripping pins out of their S2 dogbones/cvds, just like i have on the first pack, but no word from Rlaarlo or Edison (or warranty).
Awesome 🔥Never disappointng bro 🤘🏻
Thanks man! And thanks for sending your friend over to our channel too!!
Good cats HBX 2997A.💯💯😎😎💪🏿💪🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🍔🍔🔥❤️🍔
Those tires!
I run my cars mostly on asphalt. I had to get some cheapies to put on my terminator.
The stock tires are awesome, just real grippy. Causes too many rollovers and flipped over when hitting brakes.
The on road tires are screamers! Tip: use locktite LMAO
What on roads did you get? Trying to find a set as well but haven’t really looked yet?
thinking of getting the terminator should i pull the trigger?
Have you seen my videos on it?
I love it. Takes a little longer to ship, but it’s worth the wait in my opinion. Which option terminator were you thinking?
@@kill5326 Definitely! It is a great RC. One recommendation: Get the Black one. They are both great, but the transmitter with the green colored one is kinda crappy, I already replaced it and that alone pays for the upgraded car.
@@Multi-Skill-Bill sounds good thats what i had ended purchasing along with paddle wheel set
It definitely wasn't me, and there's no way I could possibly know who it was or what they were doing.
lol this is true😅.
Just come say hi 😃
Was probably the school principal or something. I kept thinking we were gonna get kicked out.
nice catch!
Haha, thanks!!

@@DerbyCityRC HAHA
😂
When I win, will that include shipping to Australia? 😊
Haha! You have to come pick it up. Just kidding. Yup! Had to send the last one to Iceland. Surely Australia would be cheaper than that! 😅
@@DerbyCityRC Awesome!!
I better enter. Not too late, am I!
@clint68 nope! 18 more hours!
看要看原廠原裝的測試優缺點,不是看你改裝品,要改裝誰都會改裝
That’s what I’m saying. I’ve done a review on the original product. It’s the best cheap car for an upgrade when still in the original form. How you upgrade it is up to you, but this is a good one to follow.
If you could only have one RC car which one would it be and why?
Durable. 😃😆
Why not just buy the Omni terminator instead?
Some people already have this car. It ships quicker if Amazon doesn’t have the Omni in stock. It’s also usually cheaper with its sale price. Some people may prefer the way it looks. 😃
I’m hoping my mk07 turns up sometime this year!! Lol😂
@aknmtbr haha, ya I get the anticipation game. Dont worry, it’s coming 😆

my rc car can do standing backflips on 2s
lol sounds amazing.
This could too if I thickened the center diff fluid a lot more.

Pretty sure HBX RCs are made out of chuck Norris
😅
You’re correct! HBX follows Chuck around and picks up the muscle that he sheds so new bigger muscle can grow in its place.
