To answer your question about Maryland, I’ve lived there my whole left, and I love it! We’re famous for crabs. The west has a lot of hills; great places to hike. There’s also a lot of suburbs for Washington DC and Baltimore. Baltimore’s the largest city and an inner harbor with ships that you can pay to go inside. Lots of food places too. The capital is Annapolis, where the US Naval Academy can be found. You can easily get to the eastern shore with the bay bridge, but it’s a scary drive! The eastern shore has lots of farms, but on the Atlantic coast is Ocean City. Very popular in the summer. There are horses on Assatigue Island!
Can also get to the Eastern Shore through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel from Virginia Beach, Virginia. This Bridge-Tunnel is 17+ miles long and crosses the mouth of the Chesapeake. Pretty wild accomplishment that cost quite a few lives.

On your question about the Crime Rigg steam traction engine having a duplicate unit, this does indeed have an historical basis and was the intention of the Road Hog grf modder. Road using steam traction engines, when engaged in heavy hauling, would be linked in tandem both in front of the flatbed and behind. There's a nice little video here from an industrial heritage festival on the Isle of Mann: th-cam.com/video/RLqbcZ3JsIw/w-d-xo.html The only ahistorical thing about it is the speeds though! You can see in the video how slow these things were, and they were really only designed for delivering cargo in dense urban areas. Still, it's always fun to see them in OpenTTD!
I think what is depicted in the game is not a traction engine, but some variety of Sentinel steam truck. Steam trucks in general were pretty nippy for their day
It's most likely an iteration on Sentinel's steam waggons, possibly the eight-wheeled DG8 with the recognisable flat-faced closed cab with the squat boiler chimney poking out the top (but Foden and other manufacturers produced some with similar layouts too), some of the later models were fast and had a lot of grunt but required watering every 30 miles or so and the later Sentinel models had a convenient engine-driven pump linked to a hose fitted with a filter to draw water from ponds, troughs, brooks or anywhere you could pinch it from. The 30's saw the last stand of steam lorries and Foden pulled out of steam traction transitioning to diesel leaving only Sentinel who would cling on for a few years more. Some of the Sentinel and Foden lorries could sometimes do a frankly slightly terrifying 40 or 50mph flat out when loaded

Super-exicted about this happening! Few interesting things you might want to consider: ISR Stations - These are super cute, basically it allows you to build custom looking stations with dynamic visual. For example you set up a station by a coal that looks like its designed to onload coal - you can even give it loading spots which are empty platform tiles that fill with reasouces that are queued up (so if there is a lot of coal waiting for transport there will be massive piles of coal on these and they will get dynamically smaller as you make it less packed. There are even tiny forklifts and whatnot to make it look realistic. It also includes buffers so you can make ends of your rail look like they are actual ends). Similiar mod I would suggest for PACKs is Michael Blunck's New Stations which should do the same thing. There is also Dutch stations+Additions which has a lot of very pretty looking pack stations including METRO stations (they look underground as they have a metro entrance tile up top) but there is no animation to those so no crowds of people waiting. Regarding the end industries like General Store I believe they boost the city growth since last time I played once I started getting goods to the shop it just made the city explode in size. Also you should probably double check your FIRS since I am pretty sure it is broken - I have never seen FIRS industries produce such insane amounts of resources so easily - Especially the manufactoring/farming tools. They are rarely worth it to move without the additional production making up for it and produced in quite smaller amounts. to your comment about the double truck configuration. Such a thing does exist in this day and age but is used in special circumstances for heavy haul configurations. The truck on the back is called a push truck and it is provides extra power. It's especially noticeable when the configuration goes up a steep grade. I know this because I worked in the heavy haul trucking industry. You need a driver in the pull truck and in the push truck. I’m in San Francisco, and have lived in Canada (Calgary, Montreal, Halifax). The good: the weather is perfect , ~17C every day, all year. Coming from -40C in Calgary is really special. You can really choose your weather, there is hot just to the north, and cold in Tahoe and Yellowstone. It’s gorgeous, and the parks are truly amazing. In the city, that’s where is breaks down a bit. IF you have the money, the city is great. Loads to do, and decent food. However, the downtown is essentially a wasteland, and you basically just block it out if you don’t need to be there too often. Berkeley and Oakland across the bay are basically the same. If you don’t have the money, it’s unlivable. Rents are insane for garbage apartments (my place doesn’t even have heating). Nothing gets built, and, because the landowners don’t want their investments to potentially be hurt, nothing gets done; there is essentially no real public transit, and driving here is a special hell. All in all, it’s a wash. The weather is such an improvement over anywhere I’ve lived in, that I almost can’t believe it. I always said I liked having big seasonal swings in weather, but I was dead wrong. I do agree, though that SF is the absolute worst place to visit as a tourist. Every “sight” is terrible and just shows all of the terrible parts, and none of the good.
I'm at a loss to find what you're saying is good about San Francisco. The weather is good, there's lots to do and there's decent food? I can be entertained anywhere and cook fine myself without people on the streets having a public defecation competition with all of India. Weather is preference but there must be better options than SF for that.
@@DDRJake I know "Public Dei-fication" is a typo, but honestly it results in an even funnier mental image, people rudely forming cults of worship _in public_ .
4:00 Day length factor from default of 1 to 4. Thank you. Because day factor of 1 with Renewed Village growth script on. It can be very challenging scenario in the sense that you have to focus on short orders, that is buses and mail trucks that only drive one or 2 blocks away and drop off passengers very, very quickly. If you build a train that goes 100 tiles (which is not too long) it would be too long because it takes 17 days to get there and the growth script won't kick in because of it. The town will never grow with day factor of 1 without intercity bus routes and you have to be careful how many of that town's passenger or mail you send off on a long trip because they will prevent town growth. Still though, interesting challenge; I just don't want to do it (because of large maps and 500 maximum vehicles, I know I can change it, but I don't want to go down that 'road'

What you should consider is if you have multilple refittable cargos in your order, then the first station on the list should have the refit to the cargo it needs, not the last one. Then if you clone no matter when you cloned the ship / car / tram / etc will refit to proper cargo on start and you will never have issues.

JGR patch is damn impressive, but even better is that you've managed to get the original TC music into the game :O Oh it's a separate playlist for the stream I see
Me too. I feel really deflated when I have a campaign with no real goals and it just fizzles out. When I have a clear long term goal like winning the world championship in Motorsport Manager, achieving certain borders in Europa Universalis or launching a rocket in RimWorld, it feels so much better, both working towards it and completing it.
DAMN YOU ...I've been playing TTD for so many years, at a certain moment, I wanted to zoom out with mouse scroll 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (PS, I use old school graphic NewGraphs as well)
Hey, some tips for you: You don't need separate orders for unload and refit, it can be in the same order You can drag the road stations like rail stations instead of building them individually
Kind of funny how you go for a highway before doing any trains at all. mainly due to high costs? I am guessing you started at a higher start date so you don't have any access to the cheaper earlier trains? OpenTTD is cool. Although, for some reason custom scenarios haven't seemed to work for me. But, mods for vehicles and industry and such seem to work fine. Having stops be city names is super cool.
I run the JGR patch which does a lot of extensive changes to the game, in particular Road Vehicles and Timetables. Perhaps that is the cause of your scenario problems? Otherwise, yes, OpenTTD is extremely cool, and despite their inefficiencies, I really like Road vehicles.
@@DDRJake Does the non-modified version of that base scenario require JGR? If those maybe that was it. I can try getting the version as well. It might also be because I am on linux. I do like doing random maps, but it would be nice to do some scenarios too.
JGR, I needed to put my world heightmap in polar projection not the better equitatorial projection that I want to use also. The reason I relented and went with a worse projection is the problem with equatorial or rectangle, is the Pacific Ocean forever will have a wall seperating the westcoast of North America off from the Oriental coast in the far east. Why couldn't the train or, in this case, boat just teleport to the other side of the map? We've seen this done before in other games. I want both oceans to be able to intercommunicate with the world all at once, you know? Not just Atlantic Ocean only, no , no.. not good enough. I need Pacific interconnectivity too when you're making a world, you got to take it all at once or nothing at all. Pacific Rim needs to be included
God this is weird I watched a lot of his videos years ago and all the sudden he showed up in my recommendations getting crazy deja vu even his cadence is the same 😂
fantastic concept of a playthrough i thoroughly enjoyed watching it, how can i install the patch for the timetable automated orders and were do i get it please, thanks
In OpenTTD, if you hold CTRL on the keyboard when you place down a station, you can choose which station, if any, to connect it to, provided another station is close enough (the distance allowed for this can be changed in the settings) It is an excellent way to make a station that is disjoined, and connecting, for example, bus stations to railway stations from the other side of the road. Enjoy!
I wonder what the hell his issue with California, and specifically San Francisco is xD. I'm European and honestly loved San Francisco and the coastal states of the US. The midwest in comparison was just a bunch of poor towns scattered around giant farms...
May I ask why you use so many trucks, instead of using trains? Im relatively new to heavily modding the game, so im trying to figure out a lot of stuff...
I just really like road vehicles. Trains are better in almost every way. One of the only advantages to road vehicles are their low investment costs, since both the trucks/busses are cheap and the roads to lay for them are cheap too. Enjoy the game!
San Fransisco's status isn't god's fault but horrible mismanagement since before the 70's. It was just so prosperous before that it took a long time to spiral to death. Same thing for Detroit. Detroit was the richest city in the world and government mismanagement and corruption killed the city. In the 90's civic services were almost nonexistant. An ambulance would take 2-3 hours. Over half the fleet was broken down.
@@sirmount2636 I wasn't talking about the willful destruction. The mismanagement started long before and you can argue has done more damage. Just look into the pension scandals. People retired from 60k a year jobs to 250k a year pension payouts. government worker unions should be banned outright.

Copied from your other comment: Here are a couple things to check in your game: When you click on the gearwheel and select NewGRF settings, are your mods moved up into the "Active" window, rather than the "Inactive" one? More importantly, when you click on the gearwheel and select Game Script Settings, is Renewed Village Growth selected? If so, you should see a lot of options available for tweaking it. If both of those things are running but your cities are still not growing, make absolutely sure that they are getting supplies that they demand and that you move the required number of passengers and mail. It should say "Town grows every xx days" Note that some "growth" periods actually shrink the town population as existing buildings are torn down to be replaced by better ones.

17c every day?
I don't think weather should count. SF is a soulless woke wasteland.
I'm at a loss to find what you're saying is good about San Francisco. The weather is good, there's lots to do and there's decent food? I can be entertained anywhere and cook fine myself without people on the streets having a public defecation competition with all of India. Weather is preference but there must be better options than SF for that.
@@DDRJake here here.
@@DDRJake I know "Public Dei-fication" is a typo, but honestly it results in an even funnier mental image, people rudely forming cults of worship _in public_ .
him pronouncing Butte as Butt just made my day (it's pronounced like B-yoot btw)
Last time I checked America wasn't France. It's Butt.
@@DDRJake fair enough
You have a very nice speaking voice. It's enjoyable to have this video in the background.
Cheers, glad you enjoy it.
Thank you youtube algorithm for my niche love of both DDR and Tycoon games thus why you came up in my recommended.
i miss you as a caster ddrJake, i think you are just way too good at it;)
I miss casting too as it happens, definitely a highlight from Paradox that I look back fondly on.
@ddrJake think of the double train as the first engine pulls the cars and the second engine pushes so the connectors don't snap.
i guess Industry: Minimal would work for vanilla industries. Since there are more types now, there is many more industries on the map.
Jake pleaseeee make more off this 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 lubeck need youuuu 😂😂😂😂 we need you this long vids are so so relaxing your speaking voice is so relaxt Just complete the Europe series watchd all Just love to watch you play 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💪🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
What you should consider is if you have multilple refittable cargos in your order, then the first station on the list should have the refit to the cargo it needs, not the last one. Then if you clone no matter when you cloned the ship / car / tram / etc will refit to proper cargo on start and you will never have issues.
you can do what you want ... none really comes close to the game ... simply awesome
Yeah, TTD is the uncontested king of this genre.
Oh man I've been waiting with baited breath for more OpenTTD
It sure wpuld be nice if the rockies were that covered with snow. It would solve a lot of problems with water.
3:14:32 Yes you did you recreated Maryland drivers 😂
Nice video very interesting
Haaaaaa.... the Go Via issue at about 1h30 with the farming supplies was so frustrating!! I would have been screaming at my screen if I was not in the office!!
I love that kinda scenario fr fr
I'm almost 2 hours into this and only just realized this is from 4 weeks ago!!! Subscribed 🥵🥵
JGR patch is damn impressive, but even better is that you've managed to get the original TC music into the game :O
Oh it's a separate playlist for the stream I see
Where I am long-haul bus service is generally Greyhound.
I love your huge project playthroughs. Should make for some good background noise.
DAMN YOU
...I've been playing TTD for so many years, at a certain moment, I wanted to zoom out with mouse scroll
🤣🤣🤣🤣
(PS, I use old school graphic NewGraphs as well)
Such patrician tastes.
I find it highly amusing that Arizona is snowy, instead of being an arid wasteland.
This sounds like it'll be a fantastically fun run. Looking forward to watching it!
Hey, some tips for you:
You don't need separate orders for unload and refit, it can be in the same order
You can drag the road stations like rail stations instead of building them individually
probably been answered by now but yeah there are in fact cursed push pull lorries out there
Glad to see America finally expanding into the empty wilderness of Not-America.
Oh would you look at that, the northwest passage was next to Michigan the whole time.

You're a star.

I need Pacific interconnectivity too
when you're making a world, you got to take it all at once or nothing at all. Pacific Rim needs to be included
God this is weird I watched a lot of his videos years ago and all the sudden he showed up in my recommendations getting crazy deja vu even his cadence is the same 😂
Not much changes on this channel, it'll still be here like an old, smelly pair of slippers.

You want the "JGR Patch" which can be found here: github.com/JGRennison/OpenTTD-patches
What are the cargodist settings for this scenario? Any asymmetric in there?
Hey I was wondering. How did you get that window up on what station the station you placed should belong to? 16:40
In OpenTTD, if you hold CTRL on the keyboard when you place down a station, you can choose which station, if any, to connect it to, provided another station is close enough (the distance allowed for this can be changed in the settings)
It is an excellent way to make a station that is disjoined, and connecting, for example, bus stations to railway stations from the other side of the road. Enjoy!
6:00 Banished soundtrack
I wonder what the hell his issue with California, and specifically San Francisco is xD. I'm European and honestly loved San Francisco and the coastal states of the US. The midwest in comparison was just a bunch of poor towns scattered around giant farms...
Ain't no Texan wanna go to Oklahoma.
Is the Banished soundtrack playing in the background?
Yes.
Missouri east of the Mississippi is killing me.
Butte is pronounced like the beginning of "beautiful."
oh wow never thought ppl still playing this game, do we got new mod for 2023?
May I ask why you use so many trucks, instead of using trains? Im relatively new to heavily modding the game, so im trying to figure out a lot of stuff...
I just really like road vehicles. Trains are better in almost every way. One of the only advantages to road vehicles are their low investment costs, since both the trucks/busses are cheap and the roads to lay for them are cheap too. Enjoy the game!
Where do you get the vehicle waypoints? Looks really useful
the JGR Patch for OpenTTD includes it.
@@DDRJake I'm sorry, I didn't see it in the description. Thanks for that :)
Is that the banished soundtrack?!?!
Real life colonialism has been literal hell on earth. And it's not even over, boy.
Boise and Olympia are both state capitals.
“Mismanagement” is very charitable. It was willful destruction.
@@sirmount2636 I wasn't talking about the willful destruction. The mismanagement started long before and you can argue has done more damage.
Just look into the pension scandals. People retired from 60k a year jobs to 250k a year pension payouts.

I'm having an odd problem - I'm following your playthrough almost essentially step-by-step, but none of the towns want to grow. Why is this?
Copied from your other comment:
Here are a couple things to check in your game:
When you click on the gearwheel and select NewGRF settings, are your mods moved up into the "Active" window, rather than the "Inactive" one?
More importantly, when you click on the gearwheel and select Game Script Settings, is Renewed Village Growth selected? If so, you should see a lot of options available for tweaking it.
If both of those things are running but your cities are still not growing, make absolutely sure that they are getting supplies that they demand and that you move the required number of passengers and mail. It should say "Town grows every xx days" Note that some "growth" periods actually shrink the town population as existing buildings are torn down to be replaced by better ones.
@@DDRJake Thank you so much for your quick feedback!! I downloaded the Renewed Village Growth game script from the browse online content section, but it doesnt seem to show up in the actual game script selectors.. why could this be?
Also yes, all the mods are in the active winodw!
Does anyone know the song beginning at 10:55?
That song is from the Videogame Banished. Check their OST here: th-cam.com/video/C0YBWu6nym4/w-d-xo.html
You watch too much of DDRJake, when you hear “severe lack of oxygen”(FTL), instead of “severe lack of options”(here).
Austrian here! Which province have you chosen to stay in? :)
After much deliberation, Hungary was a dirtier, cheaper, shabbier but ultimately more welcoming place. I intend on moving to Balaton shortly.
Austria was lovely, but a bit too expensive and rigid. And people in Wien have a huge stick up their arses.
@@DDRJake Yeah I get where you coming from! Austria is a bit on the expensive side, but wages are higher as well :)
And most Wiener basically consist of one single stick with an arse attached
