As someone who has only ever owned full-grain, goretex mountain boots, boot are was always simple. Clean well and wax heavily with a beeswax product. When I bought some breathable boots for the desert I was at an impasse because I want to care for the suede, and keep it in good condition without cracking, but I know that waxing will kill the breathability. I was having a hard time finding information on how to care for suede, and found this extremely helpful, so thank you.
Can’t imagine too many squaddies having the time or patience to faff around with their boots like this unless they never leave camp…especially the slow drying process. Makes me think suede isn’t the best material for desert boots or if it is then there’s huge room for improvement with a new man-made material.

And is the spray the repellent or just the conditioner?
