What this says....is that its going to take some time and effort, to escape this position.

If the position is established with strong control from a skilled possibly larger opponent then there are physical realities to be addressed. But you will find in practice someone like Brian is hardly ever escaping like this because he pre-emptively moves in ways that don't allow the opponent to ever get that far.
It's more common for beginners to find themselves here a lot because they haven't learned yet that if something is failing to move onto something else before it fully fails.
That being said s*** happens so worst case scenario escapes are important too.
