You can trigger the fight from the second floor with arrows. No need to use arrow of transposition. In case someone tries to do this and doesn't have that type of arrow. Once it lowers you can fast travel back to the closest point. Then shot the wheel from the second floor to initiate the fight.
"Then shot the wheel from the second floor to *initiate* the fight." Theres no initiative roll unless you're close to it. Two things. 1. You watched someone else do it with a party. 2. You haven't tested it.
@@sd_q3st3r why would you need a party? I've started fights with mage hands and other stuff. Might be able to test it soon. I have run close to the grymforge. Happens to be a druid main on honor mode.
@@sd_q3st3r I just tried it. The main problem was losing the turns of super heated. Since you had a point about grymforge not seeing some one. Turn based would have worked better. Ended up just beating him again. Throwing hammers from Karlach. As the hireling owlbear ran around. Since I messed up the timing. So hard to try stuff in honor mode.
I actually played this battle with an irl low-intelligence build and just had to whack without realizing the mechanics. Bear tech was not out at the time.
the QOL potential of this..... grim was always technically free because you can just cast mage hand to trigger cutscene and then spam arrows to kill him. but this makes grim free in a way that is not suffering incarnate : D. kinda weird how this fight is though, it sadly is just ASKING to be hard cheesed.
Ultra viable, assuming you actually get to level 6 before doing this fight. You'll probably have to do pretty much all pre-monastery content other than the fight to get there. You need level 6 for owlbear shape and to get the arrow of transposition for certain (merchant in goblin camp). That said, if you're ever scared about a fight you can always just leave someone behind and out of combat. That person could even be the owlbear!
HOLY SHIT, i tried this like 3 times but the owlber does only 148 dmg... maybe there is something i am missing... thanks god it is enough to deal with the golem and start the fight like in easy mode with half of his health bar @@ULTRAOutdoorsman
@@ULTRAOutdoorsman You don't need to do the mountain pass before this. If you do the nautilod area and underdark completely, you'll get lvl 6 before grym. Then, you go to Mountain pass, do everything there, and head to Shadow Lands with lvl 7.
It is very viable. I don't know why he went invis and did the sneaking bit, I've never done it that way myself. Also, you can just start off the fight from the cliff by shooting arrows to the levers (considering you already put the mould and mithril beforehand), and then jump on your first turn. Granted, you need to be an enlarged owlbear for it to work, but it one-shots him every time. Tried this in three runs so far.
I think the game tried to do some form of fall dmg calculation based on weight, but also applies it to anything the player/item lands on. So an owlbear is like 550kg, and lands on something weak to bludgeoning kinda just squishes it. I think it's an unintended mechanic of the game, they probably added it in to punish players from jumping from high places and the realism of jumping from a high place doesn't only hurt the thing jumping, but what ever it lands on. They did not expecting people to use this mechanic as a weapon, but that's what makes Baldur's Gate 3 so great.
Anything that takes flight through the air accumulates falling damage as it travels downwards. This damage is transferred through bludgeoning damage to anyone too close to the object's landing position. As you saw with the owlbear, this can get comically high, though you can easily add extra damage to longer throwing weapons like javelins with basically the same method. Enemies will be crushed in addition to the damage they deal (and in fact the crush is unavoidable and they will be guaranteed to take that damage even if they dodge the initial attack). You can even do this through normal jumping, though with how small characters are this is finnicky to work.

I knew before the video it was gonna be Owl Bear from the Top Ropes.
That or a backpack full of boom.
Turns out Australians weren't kidding when they told us American tourists to watch out for Drop Bears.
It's over, Grym. I have the high ground.
You underestimate my pow.... Oh shit!!!
@heSIDEQu3st3r Why did you take the invisible portion? That the enemy doesn't walk away from this position?

Because you said nothing about any cutscenes. So you have yet to test it. So its an eyewitness account.

Grym's greatest enemy is Newton

Guess my spore druid will temporarily be a moon druid for grymforge lol
I just did this and got like 200 damage. Owl bear with enlarge..... In honor mode.
Grym probably succeeded the saving throw and took half damage

Awesome I have subscribed to your channel for my next video
WAIT...it's not vulnerable to blunt damage anymore in the latest patch???? 1:26
I think that's because the effects are gone. It's not standing in lava anymore. And it's dead so what's displayed are base stats.
it's ONLY vulnerable to much of anything when it's stood in the lava for a round. Superheated
Ok, how viable is this strategy? I am currently in my first honour run and I don’t know if I can rely on this

Nah, i tried this in my honour Run and only did 150 dmg
The damage is based on the weight of the character (including the character’s inventory) as well as if Grym succeeds or fails his Con save
How though? Is it a glitch or something? The tool tip doesnt say it does more damage based off of distance
Well think about it this way, what would hurt more. An owlbear from 3 meters above you, or one from on top of an 8 story building

Druids suck ass in bg3
Just get to level 6, then respec into Owlbear. You can play the whole rest of the game as owlbear, it's incredibly fun.
Druids (all 3 types) are the best, most versatile class. Especially levels 1-8. They can do anything any other class can do.
Let me get back to you with a build.
