  • Apple's latest push with iMessage support over satellite with the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and upcoming iPhone 16 phones is really cool and it will be free at first, but eventually Apple will start charging for it, of course. This video is an explanation and how-to on how iPhone satellite imessaging works and what phones it will work for!

I texted my wife while in the mountains for 5 days. No signal, absolutely no problems and worked every time. One of those things that keeps me on iOS.

It will be beneficial for those who are long haul truck drivers who often are driving in rural areas where nothing is there. Satellite calling is good for truckers as well especially if they are broke down.

I live in a rural area we have a very weak cell signal but you can not make a call but I can't connect to the satellite service I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this

I have to drive for about 8 miles from my house to get a cell phone signal. I depend on Wi-Fi calling at home

I wish Android would get this feature. It is such a lifesaving feature and it has saved so many lives.
Even if I had to pay $5 or $10 a month for the feature I would certainly pay it especially if I was camping or going someplace that had no service or even hiking. This is definitely a life-saving feature.

Former radio troop in the Air Force, satellite access is not cheap, so for Apple to absorb the costs for a while is pretty dope of them. After the introductory period I’m sure that there would be a cost but either people can probably nix it or carry on for a cost.
What I can see happening is, once Apple gets texts, calls and data on satellite, they’ll make their own phone plan and probably push phone carriers out. Of course, other manufacturers will follow suit, causing a whole new chip race to develop better data speeds and battery efficiency (satcom takes up a lot of power).

We’ve already had the emergency satellite feature for two years now. The text is the new thing. I think it may get to a point where they charge as you use it.

I would imagine the emergency services being free but in terms of just casually, texting and calling people that will be a price

About 2 1/2 weeks ago I joined the pixel beta program and shortly after, I noticed I had satellite enhancement feature under networks. Week later got another updated software and it disappeared. They must be still working on it.

Well Adam, I’ve gone and done it. Loaded up the beta on my 15PM. Made my home page to my liking. It’s cool I guess. Something new to play with. Everything works as advertised. No over heating, I don’t know about battery drain as I’ve only had it running for a few hours. Gotta give it a week or so. Liking the refurbished settings menu.

Apple is teamed with Globalstar, T-Mobile is teamed with Starlink. Not sure about ATT. I read that Verizon isn't joining anytime soon, as they haven't seen a great consumer demand for space-based connectivity. Will be interesting moving forward. 🤙🏼

This should be implemented all across the board when it comes to iPhone users. I have an iPhone 14 but everyone is not fortunate to buy the latest and greatest so, if your iPhone is older than the 14 and you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere i guess you’re fudged!
