A luxury watch brand that is often unknown that should deserves recognition is Breguet. They’re horological innovations are significant and an installment about their history would be equally if not more fascinating.

Antoni Norbert Patek[1] of the Prawdzic coat of arms (born June 14, 1811[1] or 1812[2][3][4] in Piaski Ziemiańskie[3][a] or Piaski Luterskie[2], died March 1, 1877 in Geneva [1]) - Polish watchmaker, pioneer of industrial watch production, founder of Patek Philippe & Co. - the first company in history to mass-produce pocket watches and some of the most exclusive watches in the world, political activist of the Great Emigration.
    Curriculum vitae
He was born into a noble family, his parents were Anna née Piasecka and Joachim Patek of the Prawdzic coat of arms[5]. He was the grandson of the Lublin starosta, Wacław Patek[6]. He was 10 years old[7] when he moved to Warsaw with his parents. When his father died in 1827, he had to work to support the family[7].
The following year, at the age of 17, he joined the 1st Mounted Rifle Regiment[7] (the officer of this regiment and its later commander was Franciszek Patek, probably Antoni's half-brother[8]). When the November Uprising broke out in 1830, Antoni Patek took an active part in it. He was wounded twice, achieved the rank of second lieutenant of the Augustowska Cavalry, and on October 3, 1831, he was awarded the Golden Cross of the Order of Virtuti Militari[7][9].
After the failure of the uprising, in 1831 he went to Prussia, where, on the orders of General Józef Bem, he organized a staging point for Polish insurgents emigrating to France. Later he moved to France, joining the Great Emigration. In France he worked in a printing house as a typesetter. After some time, he went to Switzerland and settled permanently in Geneva, then an important center of artistic crafts. Here, Patek initially learned painting, and then focused on the art of watchmaking. He started by buying watch mechanisms from famous Geneva masters, which he then commissioned Swiss jewelers, engravers, enamels and miniaturists to set into decorative cases. In 1839, together with another Polish emigrant, Franciszek Czapek (of Czech origin), he opened a manufactory of such artistic watches, releasing small series.
Engraving dedicated to "Polish watchmakers in Geneva", above: Antoni Patek, below: Wincenty Gostkowski with his brother
Exclusive watch from Patek Philippe & Co
An official document from 1859, allowing Antoni Patek to stay for 3 months in the Kingdom of Poland as a foreigner. Item 5. A separate order was issued regarding its supervision. Private collection - Warsaw.
Thanks to Czapek, Antoni Patek became acquainted with the Moreau family and met their niece, whom he married[7]. On July 10, 1839 in Versoix, Antoni Patek married Marie Adelaide Elisabeth Thomasine Dénizart, daughter of the French merchant Louis Dénizart of Turin and his wife Marie Jeanne, née Devimes. The Pateks had three children. The first son, Bolesław Józef Aleksander Tomasz, was born on June 16, 1841 and died on September 18 of the same year. The next children were born after a long break: a son, Leon Mieczysław Wincenty, on July 19, 1857, and a daughter, Maria Jadwiga, on October 23, 1859[10].
In 1844, during an exhibition in Paris, where the Czapek-Patek company presented its products, Antoni Patek met the French watchmaker Adrien Philippe, who constructed a winding mechanism with a crown[7], thanks to which it was no longer necessary to use a key to wind the watch. When the partnership agreement expired in 1845, Patek separated from Czapek and founded his own company. He employed Philippe as technical director[11]. Founding capital of PLN 40,000. francs, which enabled the launch of the Patek-Phillippe company, was collected by Patek's associate, lawyer and entrepreneur Wincenty Gostkowski[12][13].
In 1851, the company changed its name to Patek Philippe, and its co-owners set themselves the goal of producing beautiful and best watches in the world. They managed to successfully implement their plans. In the same year, 1851, at the World Exhibition in London, their watch was purchased by Queen Victoria [7] to wear as a brooch on her dress, and the company received a gold medal. In the following years, they won several hundred international awards and quickly became the favorite manufacture of the world's aristocracy.
In 1868, Patek Philippe made one of the world's first wristwatches for the Hungarian countess Koscowicz[14].
Antoni N. Patek was awarded the title of count by Pope Pius IX. Although he remained in exile until the end of his life, he did not stop being interested in Polish affairs - he supported the events of the Spring of Nations, took care of refugees after the defeat of the January Uprising and remained a Catholic activist until the end of his days.
After his death, the company changed owners several times. Since 1929, it has belonged to the Stern family[7].
Famous owners of Patek-Philippe watches included Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Sigismund Krasiński [15], Piotr Tchaikovsky, Leo Tolstoy, Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Pius IX, Leo XIII, Walt Disney,

Buy a nice solar watch and donate the difference to a worthy
    cause in your town.
    Don't be a snob.
When you buy a high end mechanical watch you are just paying to the company for the right to show to your friends
that you have the money and taste to buy a famous brand powered by an old fashioned mechanism that is less
accurate than their 200 usd watches.
