The 10C-PRO we used for this video had a "release candidate" firmware version. There's a new v2.0 firmware update that seems to improve picture quality a bit. Make sure you're using the latest! Please read the show notes @ mototrek.net/?p=504
I think on the surface people see motorcycle coms as a hindrance, but there are so many situations where it saves confusion and keeps the group in alignment. SENA provided devices for a ride in Cambodia where myself and 3 strangers delivered Laptops to my friends school. One of the devices was a previous model 10C the rest were just coms. As the leader of the ride I can say without hesitation that having coms through the CHAOTIC traffic was a gift from above. It allowed us to stay focused...never rush...and keep tabs on one another. I wasn't glued to my rear view trying to watch the team members while also navigating traffic. The video is a little less than perfect but having real time audio is kinda special. Thanks for the review.
Mine came in yesterday and I set it up on my helmet. Linked to my phone and started to play some music and first thought was, well the speakers kind of suck. BUT then I remembered I forgot to take off the little plastic protective sheets on the speakers. WOW! These speakers rock! Way better than my Cardo and way better than my Sena 10 in my half shell.
Just ordered mine from Revzilla...I’ve used a 10C (original) for 2 years and really have no complaints...and I like in NW Oregon, been in some rain with NO problems...but my R1200RT has excellent wind protection so I don’t get very wet if in motion. I plan on using this with the RC4 handlebar remote (which worked well with the original 10C after the firmware update) so I don’t have to take my right hand off the bars to do intercom, camera, etc.
I've just ordered one I didn't know they had been released. Issues can be fixed via patch updates easily to say it's early days is an understatement most don't realise it's released yet and I think they only seem to have released a bare minimum run of them when you look deep. TH-cam is also well known for being selective with everything uploads and dare say the 60fps at 1080p will upload better...does with most uploads.
Having used GoPro 7 and 8 I just can't get myself to switch to this camera. The resolution is just not there to replace gorpo for motovlogging. I actually bought it from Revzilla but getting ready to send this right back.
No stabilization or color correction applied to either video. The only difference is that the new upload is 29.97p which matches the Sena files frame rate. The first upload was 24p.
The rubber things "self ejected" while I was in Africa so I bent them to keep the phone locked in. It ended up working better that the rubber rods so I've never replaced it.
@@MOTOTREK I did download the file (thanks for providing it). Looks like they over sharpened and over contrasted the image quite a bit, but that's probably to compensate for what looks like a ver soft undetailed image to begin with. TH-cam destroy the quality of the original file because of its sharpness problem. Some quite noticeable lens flare too, but I guess you can't expect much better on this topic. You can't really expect much from a 1440p@4mbps. Even TH-cam recommends 10mbps for 1440p. Sound is quite good though. For the next model, I'd recommend Sena to encode at 1080p@4mbps without any effects. Better video quality > better resolution, and people who want to sharpen will add what they think is necessary. In the end, I'll stick with my first assessment. Perfect dash cam if you were already going to buy a Sena system. Nothing more.
Nice video, guys. I like your quick clips showing the function of the buttons. I have really enjoyed my SENA 10c helmet cam and will likely upgrade to the new pro. Wish they had gone full 4K, but I guess we will have to wait.
Very good review, thanks. I’m thinking of getting the Sena 10C on the basis of your assessment (and others’), although the comparative (with my GoPro Hero 5+) video image quality and lack of stabilisation is slightly holding me back. At this late stage, I’m wondering if I’m just as well waiting for the next release/version which will probably be a further improved one and with better video image quality. When is that likely to be, though...? What do you think? Worth just waiting?
Completely agree with what you said about the first sena sound quality on phone calls. I'd be of the freeway going 90, and no one knew I was on the bike when they called me. Only thing missing from this vid was the ability to edit video from your phone. I heard that was a new feature. While recording, you're supposed to be able to see what you're recording live.
Apologies for the late question…. I’m only new to looking at getting a camera/video comms thing. This still looks a good bit of kit, but my question is…if I had a cable from my bikes USB to the Sena, can I now record continuously? Or will it only record for 2 hours, or whatever it was? Thanks for any help. Great channel Brett, some decent helpful videos. Thanks a lot. Matt
Reasonably happy with Sena 10C Pro but the first one inexplicably died; full stop. Dead. After some phone calls and emails, Sena eventually replaced it with a brand new unit. Here's hoping the replacement works and stays working long enough to compare it against your experiences. Thanks again Bret for the good video.
I guess I wont be upgrading from my sena 10c....Being a camera enthusiast one thing that people dont get about the sena 10c pro camera is that its encoder and sensor is the same as a cheap sub $100 4k camera like the Novatek NT96660. The higher quality encoder like in the Yi or GoPro are based on the Ambrella and a high quality sony sensor. The bad thing about putting an Ambrella chip into something the size of the sena 10c is the heat. I have opened up the sena 10c and while it does have a small heatsink in there, it is not large enough like the Yi action camera or the GoPro 4/5. A lot of heat will cause interference with radio boards inside the sena 10c. I watched the raw video files and its a bit better than the regular sena 10c, but if you already have a sena 10c, this is not worth it to upgrade. If you DONT have a sena 10c and needs a multi use product this pro version will suit your needs. I never ride anywhere without my sena 10c recording, as a dash cam it has recorded a lot of crazy and dangerous situations I have come across. If you ride, you need a camera period is my take.
I'm surprised that Sena does not release new models with Mesh support, so far one model that has support is 30K. At the same time, new Cardo intercoms, not only smaller, better functioning, all have support for their own mesh network (DMC).
I used the 10C quite a while. Got tired of empty promises. Went back to gopro. Image quality looks decent..and audio is good on 10c pro. Will be a while before i give it a shot
I like the idea of all in one device that is pretty decent. Sadly though 10c pro isn't water resistant (ip67/68, etc) and is only light-rain/splash resistant and it rains a lot where I live. In earlier shots your helmet was showing, but in last couple shots the helmet was not. Were you able to adjust the camera so helmet wasn't showing, or was that done in editing?
Funny to read people complaining about the video quality. Sure, it isn't as good as gopro but it isn't a pure action camera either. It is a communication based device after all. I am on fence about getting one because that price tag is pretty steep.
I JUST bought a Sena 10c and installed. I had no idea this was even a thing! I have been trying to get goPros to mount with no luck. Is it unethical to return the opened unit to instead purchase this? I am well within the deadline.
Check ✔ out my video where I use sena 1c pro… I like it! Thank you for your advice! If you will be in Thailand welcome!! Always happy 😄 to see you!!! th-cam.com/video/cAO6QHRAmMM/w-d-xo.html
I have been using a SMH10 for a couple of years now and have been happy with the sound and call quality. I commute every day and want to add a camera for safety and ride logging. Not trying to create content for distribution My GF also has a SMH10 so I was leaning towards another Sena to maintain Mesh compatibility. I would however be fine with adding just a camera that is not connected to anything. I have a GoPro but have found that to be very unwieldy for daily riding. Anyone have any thoughts about an alternative to the Sena as a 'dashcam'?.
The audio is decent for the recording. The video quality is poor. However, the biggest deal breaker is the Bluetooth instead of the DMC mesh technology. Sena behind the times...still
So far I have never lost a device with the x-mount. The no rubber-bent tip x-mount was a field repair in Africa after losing some rubber tips. It turned out top work better than the original design so I've stuck with it. It does chew up the case a bit bit it keeps it secure
Thanks for the video. I didn’t even know they had the Pro model out. I’ve been looking at the C10 for weeks now and just couldn’t pull the trigger. But after stumbling across your video here, I finally ordered one today. I have 3 GoPros and none of them work well on my helmets. I look like I have a big ole turd on my helmet. I have Sena mounts already so it will be a plug and play for me too! Thanks.
Thanks for the great video. I am currently looking at what is available as action camera for video vlogging and the Sony FDR X-3000 seems to gives way better result that this! Even the sound, which is the bad point of the Sony, seems better. Did you try it?
Am I correct in my research that the 10C Pro also doesn't allow multitasking when recording? Meaning, you cannot listen to navigation while recording video; and you cannot listen to music while recording video? And for something that just came out in 2018, why no mesh capabilities like the 30k?
The regular 10c you can listen to navigation and music while recording, even both at the same time. but when the navigation speaks the music is cut off because the Nav take first priority. So i'm pretty sure that the new 10c PRO will do the same if it is ever released. Push back to the middle of December 2018 now.
Nice kit but...... It does not work with the Sena earbud adapter. I bought a Pro but sent it back. I have 3 helmets set up for the older 10C-01. I love the old one but the battery is going. The Pro and firmware 3.0 update on the old 10C mean I cannot use them. I raised a support call with Sena and (as of 21/4/19) they do not have a date for a fix. The Pro is probably very good but without a fix I will not find out.
I think Sena is more focused on the communications functionality, James. Not the best camera solution, but its not bad considering it's squeezed into such a small, aerodynamic device. For riders who don't want a separate camera on their helmet, it's an acceptable solution.
MOTOTREK I’m sure Sena would sell a hell of a lot more of these if it had 4K and especially image stabilization. Seems like an ok device for communicating but falls down with that camera. Keep up the good work Brett, your videos are great 👍👍👍
Moto Rider 473 I found one on eBay today, Thanksgiving. 11/22/2018. From a well known seller with thousands of sells and 100% feedback. Let me see here and I’ll give you the name of the seller... Helmetcountry is the seller.
Dear Μototrek, first of all pretty nice video as all of your s actually, Well, I am going to buy an " Evo ", instead of "pro", have you test it? Thank you and, keep your riding life, on !!
My wife and I have perfected our hand signals to the point where she does not see the point of long conversations while riding. Thumbs up,down, waging sideways hand = so so, and of-course pointing/ flat or hand out to say isn't this nice, plus a hug to say when she is overjoyed. We talk when we're stopped at the places we're riding too. The only reason I can justify a camera/head set is recording for liability. So the fact that I can't even read the passing cars license plates knocks this out for me for liability.
One of the biggest hassles is fitting the pieces onto one's helmet. I'd prefer you paid more attention with/showing that in great detail. Conventional, Adventure, Neotech (oh my!)- each mount a bit differently. Don't assume folks have/are using a prior Sena- could be nothing, could be Cardo, could be... In the vid- all that was still in bags, the helmet mount you use an old one, you spent more time showing how to insert the key and start the bike fergodsake. C'mon, put a little effort into it- you were in too big of a hurry to go ride. Details matter...
Has anyone considered the effects of electromagnetic exposure from bluetooth, wifi, and other devices, especially this close to your head? Maybe. People use cell phones up against their heads hours a day. I guess cell damage, radiation, and eventual tumors are immune to some folks.
@@MOTOTREK Would take too many layers. If that was a comment meant to be insulting, I understand. Because most people haven't considered all of the verified studies done on the late 21st century of broadcasted dirty wireless electricity, a rather recent reality mankind hasn't experienced before. I could list a host of common wireless sources of EMF/EMR that's making people sick, get cancer, and die. My question was out of curiosity and somewhat rhetorical as well. This is the silent killer few are considering. Technology is pushing much faster than critical testing, because of profits.
@@exothermal.sprocket actually wouldn't take much to attenuate signal. Decent EE with some antenna background likely best help. Not really a lot of energy to defeat.
@@aristovh I don't suspect the radio signal is very dense or strong with the average Bluetooth headset. But it's high frequency, which poses a worse kind of threat than the strength and density of local voltage fields to the human body. It's just another dirty electricity item to add to our already hugely smogged up electrical environments, in most cities.
This looks fine as a dashcam, but I'll bet it'll barely be used for Mototrek vids due to the poor quality. I'm disappointed to hear you call this good. Audio sounded excellent. I hope the 64GB is microSD so it's expandable and you can just pop the card into your card reader. I suspect this is not the case though.
The video quality from the Sena, compared to your drone, looks like it was shot from a potato. Why dont they just partner up with GoPro, clearly this is not their strong point
informative video, nothing negative towards you or the content. However this camera/communications device is more than a little disappointing. I own the original sent 10c and mainly use it for music (under 60km/h). Originally thought I'd use it for vlogging but instantly saw the quality wasn't up to it. The speakers and mic do work well but without quality video it kind of defeats the purpose of having a camera. Now this new version, 3.5megapixel camera. 2k at 30fps. My iPhone does a better job than that and GoPro Hero 7 is killing it. No mesh for communication. They're 3yrs behind and the product still isn't ready for purchasing. I'd recommend if your sticking with Sena, then just get the comms and use a GoPro instead. P.S where is the evo??
Unfortunately it has NO VIDEO TAGGING. Just a loop function and this is part of all GoPros. I bought it and I'm really really disappointed because of that. It was the main reason to buy it. That's a major step back in functionality from SENA and not true in your video at 3min.
@@Striple : I do have. I just mentioned, that the most important function isn't on board. A tool with such a worst camera has in my eyes just the function to capture moments, those are usually missing, if my action cam isn't running. But without video tagging it makes no sense. Loop function is included in every usual action cam.
@@crosscountryfamily8142 You can 'Tag' with the old sena 10c. Maybe you like that one. And if your camera is 'on' with the sena, it takes as much battery life as you record. I never use Tag beause of it. I don't know why ppl always compare with a GOPro. The GoPro is an action cam. The Sena 10c Pro is an intercom, with cam. With the iam of being an intercom, it gives you an extra with the cam. GoPro is a pure cam, and nothing else.
@@Striple Really? In case of battery consumption it really makes less sense. Thanks for that information. This is something, what you are never reading in manuals even if this could be important for consumers. Anyway I will use it as intercom and to record my voice on my garmin and maybe to show something, what my action cam hasn't in sight.
@@crosscountryfamily8142 Hi man, I just downloaded the camera app from sena on my phone. There you can choose in the settings for a loop and an other item. If you didn't know already, try it out, maybe it will be an extra to your 10c
Sorry SENA is an awful company. I've had 4 of their devices and they don't support them worth anything. On multiple occasions, their firmware updates bricked the device. The best part is when that happens after the warranty is up they don't care, even though they KNOW it is their fault. Scala rider all the way. I'll never go back to that trash. That aside, good video, per usual some of the best motorcycle related content on youtube!
Agreed. Good products, poor support. Firmware 3.0 disabled the earbud adapter on the Pro and original 10c. I had to diagnose the problem and explain it to their support desk as they did not have a clue. They do not have a date for a firmware release to fix this. The promotional material says the Pro is compatible with all 10c accessories. Obviously not!
The 10C-PRO we used for this video had a "release candidate" firmware version.
There's a new v2.0 firmware update that seems to improve picture quality a bit. Make sure you're using the latest!

Bret...you're a genuine STALLION with the new beard...ha haa. Truly enjoy all your vids...especially the tech stuff.
You have to check ✔ new 10c Evo! Quality of camera 📷 much better!!!
Thanks for the tip, Oleg. I will send off an email to Sean and see if we can get some!
I love my sena 10c pro 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Communication and video blogging works together. Or one or either
Dear Μototrek,
first of all pretty nice video as all of your s actually,
Well, I am going to buy an " Evo ", instead of "pro", have you test it? Thank you and, keep your riding life, on !!
I buy my first Sena for my NEOTEC (10U) and
i swore never again.
My old, cheap Cardo Freecom 2 put the Sena in the pocket all day long...
I'm 48 and still can't grow a beard. LoL
You switched from iphone!
I was looking forward to this but that video quality is awful.
video quality seems very meh
Nice beard!
No shave November baby!
Thats what I was going to ask. Can you still wear ear plugs.
Good point.
Maybe we should line our helmets with tin foil!
It's an intercom, with camera, if you want a real action camera, you buy a Go Pro or something. A lot of ppl make that mistake.
U look great with ur 🧔 beard
Image quality is shocking, also the audio is pop-ey and distorted.
Seasick. Needs image stabilization. You can't watch videos like this for any length of time.
Agreed, Jim, however if you record in QHD there's plenty of room to stabilize in post-production and output in HD without losing resolution.
Nice beard
Zoo mo~~
I call Sena last Monday about my Sena 30k and they replaced it with new 30K. I just received it yesterday and just order Sena 10C Pro today.
You lost all credibility when you said "speaker quality great " that's how much you worth ??? Free unit worth few hounded bucks ??? Shame on you !!!
The one thing that's new is the cam. And the cam is shit. So no thanks x
