I'm a parkour athlete(as well as a climber), and I can tell you that falling on your back is the best way to land in a foam pit because you won't sink through the foam.
i have a buddy who is a retired professional parkour athlete with his own gym where i live, spent multiple years on the world chase tag or whatever its called. hes climed like maybe 5 times and can do like v5 v6 dyno problems. even with basically zero climbing experience its crazy.
the foam pit in twitch con was not a foam pit, just foam blocks on the floor, a foam pit has a deep pit filled with foam. I feel like those mats are kinda making that fall worse than it should be, maybe if they layered the mats under foam it'd be safer
No, the mats are safer if you land feet first, which is probably the case for most people falling on that wall, at least the ones not doing dynos. If you would land directly onto the foam you sink in much deeper, which is dangerous if the pit is too shallow.
@@jorisschaltegger2131 the mats are not safer when landing on your feet, you are supposed to land on your back because there is much more surface area to absorb the impact, landing on your feet (even on the mats) will injure you. its exactly why in trampolining videos when people are falling from height they land on their back or chest instead of their feet.
Dude I was there and did that event - I did a backflip off of it after I won and it fuckin hurt (there’s actually a video on my channel lmao). Horribly organized.
the proper foam cube pits are actually made to break falls with significant force, hence why they are used in gymnastics under for example rings in some gyms
Yes, this. Good foam pits (not Twitch Con) are super safe and usually safer than a mat. You're not stopping all at once and force is able to spread out because you sink further. Also, stunt people use foam pits or even cardboard boxes. More air, less compressed is always going to be safer. It just needs to be deep enough.
actually saw them on a gymnastica channel (Nile, the olympic guy. he had some crossover with eddie hall's channel). basically the foam pit looked awesome, and the opposite of the one at that convention where people were injured.
It's been a while since I was in gymnastics, but those foam pits are actually safer than that first person's crash pad for dynoing. They use them in gymnastics alot because if you fall, say, headfirst on a missed double bar flip, your head has someplace to squeeze into rather than breaking your neck on a flat pad. In professional settings those foam pits are super deep. So deep that animals fall into them sometimes and die because they can't get out. Whoever produced twitch con was a dipshit and that foam "pit" was just a foam layer. But to be fair they probably didn't expect someone to Mario ass slam into it.
"But to be fair they probably didn't expect someone to Mario ass slam into it." if you build a foam pit, that is the first thing you need to expect to happen, though.
Hoosier heights Indy (the gym in video) used to be my home gym so maybe I can fill in some FAQs. 1. The gym is getting pretty old at this point, hence it not looking as nice as other gyms. (Also it’s absolutely massive, 33,000 sq feet of wall space if I’m correct 2. Grades are inflated on the Snake to discourage newer climbers/weaker climbers from trying it for safety reasons 3. The Snake does get some hard routes on it occasionally, but mostly for competitions and events at the gym, again, liability reasons. 4. The foam pit is much better at taking large large falls safely, especially from compromising positions then a solid mat. It’s also much more convenient and affordable then air bags used in movie stunts. If you fall from 25 ft on your shoulder/neck on a foam pit, you may have some pain and stiffness, but onto mats, no so much
I had a very similar fall from a not as tall height and ended up with a minor concussion. Very similar symptoms to the ones you described with horrible neck pain too. Take it easy man!
Hey that’s my home gym! The snake is a bit (a lot) just for show, but doing a couple reps each session on the “V5” or hard set has helped me with roof climbing! If you’re ever there again let’s dyno!
The Hannah Morris video was filmed at The Boardroom in Queensferry, Wales. Fantastic centre, been there a few times. The Psicobloc, the 8m boulder, is absolutely terrifying to climb on. Btw highly recommend The Boardroom, even just the pizza alone is enough to justify going there.
Burst out laughing at you going back and the wall looking massive again. Amazing how the camera changes things and i try to remember that before v1-in-my-gym-ing
Agreed. Always fall to your back. Just like a trampoline or riding into a foam Pit on a board bike etc. Falling w/ your back parallel to the landing increase surface mass decreasing pact to multi points of your body. Feet first is a no = will put to to the bottom. Regardless a great vid to watch my guy! Thanks, Climbing Stuff!
Never hear the term dyno-ist before. I like the idea of a Dyno-soar-ist Dyno - CLIMBING a rapid move across a rock face in order to reach a hold Soar - increase rapidly above the usual level. ist - a follower of a distinctive practice, system, or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement.
Your neck is probably fine. I broke a vertebrae in my neck (the spinous process of the 7th one, so nothing too serious) a little more than 2 months ago and couldn't properly lift my arms for at least a week (not cause of any nerve damage but rather cause of the pressure it puts on the bone). So yea, looking at you doing all that bouldering still after your fall, probably nothing too bad.
I am totally uninitiated. I don't know terminology. I don't have skills. My opinion probably doesn't matter. That said I was Impressed and entertained. I also learned a bit.
awesome video. i went to the place that hannah went to after i saw her video. It was scary af, and apparently you're supposed to land on your back. It's against the rules to land on your legs there! took some getting used to but definitely feels better when you get used to it
Open boulder? Well done. Sounds like you need to fall on your head a few more times and Ondra will have to retire early. Either that or so many falls from that height- all fear of falling on a normal wall is gone, upping your game
This is my home gym!! Hoosier Heights Indianapolis is great, and the one in Bloomington is even better :) I've climbed "the Snake" as well it's awesome (and pretty safe)
I’ve bouldered there before! Next time you’re in Indy try out Northmass boulder, the owner was inspired by the bouldering project in Seattle. Love that gym 😭
Hoosier Heights is my secondary gym! Appreciate the love you showed to them and North Mass Boulder (Sorry about them not letting you climb while drinking 😂)
oh sweet bro! i go there so much, yeah it's scary, definitely an experience. my uncle goes there with me sometimes, and we were standing in front of it, i asked him, can you do it? then he campused it lol.
Lookin at your face, I feel like there was a moment in your developing, when there was like a high chance you drooling on a wheel chair, but you made it somehow. Just look at your face man, just look at that face. #cartman
Well - I am currently very nervous but excited… going to mallorca next week and try dws… the 5-6a‘s are 6m … the 6b+s are 18m. And well I can do 6b+ to 6c… but that’s just different
Twitch con foam pit wasn’t even a year ago actually, it was last october, also anyone who was there, the “foam pit” was not even one layer of foam, you could see the floor

Parkour + bouldering is an insanely underrated combination of sports. I do them both to😂
I do tricking, and jumping into the foam pits with the blocks is the worst! You just sink in and have to wade through them 😭

To add to this, foam pits are also made over a trampoline, not concrete
@@Carr.Ryan09 *usually, if done right. not always. there’s no law requiring it.

Yeah the good pits are very deep, like 10-12 feet with a cushion like a trampoline 3-4ft of the floor and then 8 feet of foam

tbf who wouldnt mario ass slam into a foam pit at a public recorded event; that would be fun, if the foam pit was actually a pit ofc.
"But to be fair they probably didn't expect someone to Mario ass slam into it." if you build a foam pit, that is the first thing you need to expect to happen, though.
Climbing stuff is some of the best climbing content, nothing can change my mind on that

make sure to get your neck checked out if it keeps hurting. Injuries and necks don't really go together well
I had a very similar fall from a not as tall height and ended up with a minor concussion. Very similar symptoms to the ones you described with horrible neck pain too. Take it easy man!

My home gym too bro would love to climb sometime as well.
I live 20 minutes away from it but I’m not a climber, I’ve only gone once
1:52 it's a good thing that molesting the foam pit isn't against the rules
I was 20 feet in the air on my bmx bike and bottomed out in a foam pit. My knee was messed up for 3 years.
Sounds like something from nitro circus, that sucks about your knee tho
no he fell into a climbing wall foam pit

Burst out laughing at you going back and the wall looking massive again. Amazing how the camera changes things and i try to remember that before v1-in-my-gym-ing
Before anyone says anything, he is a dynoist.
My local parkour gym has a foam pit with a trampoline at the bottom, that way even if you fall poorly, you would still be okay.
Love the videos. You have great narrative storytelling skills!
Let’s go dude!! I work as a setter at Hoosier Heights in Bloomington, and I love the snake at Indy. It’s so much fun to campus, albeit terrifying

Dyno - CLIMBING
a rapid move across a rock face in order to reach a hold
Soar - increase rapidly above the usual level.
ist - a follower of a distinctive practice, system, or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement.
Now you just need to fall on your head on an outside bolder and you will be complete
love the content but you should have definitely had your neck checked out 😂 sending dynoprayers for a dynorecovery
Packed my gear. Shoes. Chalk. Love it!
This video had me cracking up! Love your humor!
it’s nice that they used old beg bug mattresses for the foam pit

Oh niceeee! I gotta say, pigs will fly before I dyno on a Psicobloc 😆🫣
the swinging after a dyno crazy boi work some core
Thanks that was better than coffee. Well done
YOOOOOO this is my home gym!
Your dynos are so graceful
The Boardroom (from Hannas videos) has done dyno comps on that wall in the past during lights out events. Shame I can't find any videos to link
I'll look into it, that sounds awesome
certified MUG MOMENT
I love dinos too! Broke my thumb on one just the other day tho 😭. Can't climb for a while so really loved the vid 😂

Breaking a fall from 30 feet is exactly what a foam pit is designed to do
this was a fun watch !!!
Man this guy really likes dinos. You should check out slab climbing
foam pits are how motor cross trains as well as 90% of extreme sports
Terrifying.
“Foam pits aren’t meant to break falls from 35ft” 😂 tell that to nitro circus 😂
Probably could save a lot of energy on that campus skipping holds
I’ve bouldered there before! Next time you’re in Indy try out Northmass boulder, the owner was inspired by the bouldering project in Seattle. Love that gym 😭
That's where he's climbing at the end of the video.
@@zh5108 well, If i had watched until the end I would know that wouldn’t I? 😂
No wayyyy I love that gym. It’s the one I go to every weekend. Love seeing you there man the snake wall is a very interesting wall lmao.
And alsl there is no concrete in the bottom of THAT foampit. There is a big "trampoline" that has all the foam on top of it
That looks fun!
@climbingstuff at North Mass about 6 months ago there was a running start dyno into a fist jam it was sick. Def a good gym for newer age climbing.
Nice chechik reference
Hoosier Heights is my secondary gym! Appreciate the love you showed to them and North Mass Boulder (Sorry about them not letting you climb while drinking 😂)
I work here and the foam pit is plenty safe!
oh sweet bro! i go there so much, yeah it's scary, definitely an experience. my uncle goes there with me sometimes, and we were standing in front of it, i asked him, can you do it? then he campused it lol.
Foampits ARE acrually much better at vaa absorbing fall than that freaking mat
I've never seen anyone else do a video on the gym I would go to like twice a year and try and see how high I could get on this wall
V3 - V5 🤣 those jug ladders! that thing was made for little kids
Lookin at your face, I feel like there was a moment in your developing, when there was like a high chance you drooling on a wheel chair, but you made it somehow. Just look at your face man, just look at that face. #cartman
This channel rocks
Any sports route is a bouldering wall if you're brave enough.
Going to North Mass is the right decision any day
Free solo bouldering, AKA bouldering
Good Channel
Adriana’s back had been blown out too many times before.
Me and my brother climb there! I was projecting that orange v3 :D
Waiting for this man to try rainbow rocket and red rocket

I just realized you live pretty close to me... it would be awesome to go climbing at north mass gym with you sometime lol
That’s my gym!!! Hah cool video
That place is perfect for you! Couldn’t be more full of itself.
shout out to my local gym
Yo, this is the very first gym that i went to, what a coincidence

some lady left a yelp review of this place and said her kid ate some of the foam and had to be home schooled for 6 months lolz
Dang I did wanna live in Colorado after college. Now I kinda wanna live in Indianapolis
Hey that’s Hoosier heights
Twitch con foam pit wasn’t even a year ago actually, it was last october, also anyone who was there, the “foam pit” was not even one layer of foam, you could see the floor
Free stuff is cool. Lets hope I get it
Have you tried speed climbing? That might be the sweet spot for you?
Free soloing is fun 👍
i've "accidentally" fallen while doing the last move and with a controlled fall onto my back it felt like a bed of feathers.
What'd you call a dyno-ist who's sore? a dynosore... #climbingdadjokes
Hey, that gym is in my area. There’s another cool gym called north mass boulder close by. You should try it I could meet you there
Yep so just finished the video and saw that you went there😂
What the hell happened during that two weeks? You went from "I cant, I am scared" straight to zero survival instincts
The biggest bouldering wall ive ever FALLEN off
hope your neck gets better
Nice that hoosier hights in Northwest Indianapolis
We go to the same gyms! Hopefully I run into!

Why all of your footage looks like old footage from 2005 lol. Anyway, i never climbed in my life and still love your content, thats something to say.
Ill be honest dude we used to jump off a 25ft roof on a row of shops into piles of cardboard boxes ... we survived 😅
Ive been their, never was able to make it to the top
Do a dyno tutorial please 🙏
