My understanding is there's a lot of small towns and communities in the totality path. If say 5x as many people as usual come to the area then most resources will be depleted. I've seen eclipses before and while they are awesome, I've never heard of a state of emergency being called. If people run out of things they just travel outward, until they find what they want. The reason for the emergency is because the total solar eclipse will only be visible in very specific parts of the U.S. including a small area of Texas. I’m assuming he is talking about those areas. I do not know anyone that is going or knows anyone who is going. The last solar eclipse right before it happened everyone walked outside checked it out then went back in and continued where they left off. No one came out of there way to experience it. There were no emergency declarations.

Well, here in oklahoma where the total eclipse will occur is tiny towns with a very low population. Apparently thousands of people are going to converge there. Because of that gas stations may rin out of gas, groceries having shortages along with other services . I heard what few motels and hotels were booked a long time ago and state parks are completely booked, so i think ( I hope) that is the reason. I do have wierd feelings. I don’t think it’s an overreaction because there are going to be plenty of people coming in to this small town taking up hotel rooms, packing restaurants and buying up food and gas. Something fishy is going on. Why the worry over an eclipse. Never heard of this till this year. Why now is this a concern. Just the loads of people? Cause the eclipse its self is basically harmless. I can't help it but I think it is very strange that an emergency has been called for an eclipse that will last for about 2 minutes. I've seen eclipses before and while they are awesome, I've never heard of a state of emergency being called. If people run out of things they just travel outward, until they find what they want. Normally they book their lodging requirements in advance. This would be like calling an emergency everytime there is a snow storm before it even arrives or for every rush hour traffic jam in a major city. New York and other cities overwhelmed with people and I'm sure their resources are stretched to the max, but no emergency is called there, and none is called at the southern border where it is really needed. A lot of tourists are going to come into these areas to watch it and will take up a lot of resources. I think this video intentionally left out this context to scare people.
