    I'll deciding between Gigabyte GA-AB350-GAMING 3 ATX and ASUS Prime B350 Plus ATX. It's more for productivity then gaming; ToonBoom Harmony and Adobe software etc.

    You pick whatever board is in stock at the moment.
    Chips everywhere, no damn boards, and the ones that are, are full of bugs.

    What board should you buy? Look at what boards have enough expandability for you, after that, choose the one that supports the fastest ram in decent quantity within reasonable price. Most manufacturers have supported memory lists on their support pages. With ryzen fast ram is everything.

  • @ArtisChronicles
    @ArtisChronicles 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    certain higher end boards are better for ram, so that's a thing. Specifically if you have some very fast ram.

    It's pretty simple really, if you are not overclocking pick the best features and warranty. if your overclocking pick the board with superior VRMs and power delivery. With established products pay attention to reviews. AM4- ASUS Hero VI hands down, budget ASrock, mid/workstation a Ultra Durable Gigabyte board. And picking a board for overclocking is about much more than the MHz you achieve, it's also about increasing efficiency. For example increasing latency and temperatures with a too high OC performs worse than a reasonable OC with lower voltages and matched/tuned BUS.

    • @TheRickJames
      @TheRickJames 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They list it on the box/specs usually however it can be false technically. A good indicator is the amount of chokes and in some cases the size of the heatsink(if properly engineered). But if I had any advice it would be to watch and read trusted reviews and select a product that has been on the market long enough to be vetted which is usually 2Q after the launch date.

  • @mkports

    Something I do not understand, a normal clocked 1800x goes up to 4.1 ghz with xfr, thus if you overclock a 1700x this is your target to be on par with the 1800x. How beneficial is it to clock the 1800x to 4.0 ghz while not having the boost functions of the cpu? Wouldn't you try to exceed the maximum clockspeed of the 1800x - 4.1 ghz- to benefit from it?

    What's wrong with the MSI B350 Tomahawk?

  • @Fee.1
    @Fee.1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the breakdown, if you have a moment i have a question, you say that you suggest not buying the more expensive x370 boards because you see little to suggest the more expensive ones overclock better, is that actually the selling point for the pricier boards, that seems crazy to me? is it that they come with auto overclocking features or something that makes it easier? I figured the pricier boards just came with more PCIE lanes or something along those lines i guess

    • @HoosierHardware
      @HoosierHardware  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pricier ones often have added features like Bios flashback, on board power and reset buttons, more rgb headers, potentially additional m.2 slots, or better overall power delivery. My chip hits 4.04 GHz, and from what I've seen from other reviews, I haven't seen many 1800X chips hitting 4.1 GHz even on boards costing about $100 more. Unless the more expensive option has a specific feature giving you something not offered with the lower end X370 boards, I just don't see the value. I'd suggest just pocketing the difference or spending that money on another component to get more performance out of the build.

    • @p3rrypm
      @p3rrypm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look, here are the real questions...
      Do you plan to overclock? If so, it really doesn't matter, as long as you stay in the B350 or X370 chipsets, the A320 I don't believe is capable of Overclocking.
      Now question number 2, do you prefer AMD or Nvidia for Graphics cards? If you prefer Nvidia, you have better support on the X370 boards and you'll see why in a minute.
      Third, do you plan to use Nvidia Cards in parallel (SLI)? If you don't like Nivida, or don't plan to use two or more in your system, then you're absolutely 100% fine with the B350 boards.

    I’m having hard time deciding between the MSI B350M Mortar and the Asus TUF B350M-PLUS Gaming. Which one would be better in terms of overclocking capability and PCB durability? I plan on using a Ryzen 5 1600 with the stock cooler.

    • @HoosierHardware
      @HoosierHardware  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sierra Delta I don't have any experience with either, but I'm guessing both would overclock fairly equally. Find out which one has better power delivery and probably go with that one. I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

      Asrock B350 Pro4. Black/white/silver, good construction, good price. Best of all, no tacky LEDs.
      As for the PC Mate, on the surface it looks to be the same basic board as the Tomahawk with different, likely cheaper capacitors to cut the price. No one has really torn them apart and compared them yet, though.

    • @mkports
      @mkports 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the problem is not the board, but the case. Most cases are very small so from having cooler, fans, powersupply very close together, airflow can be a problem as well as maintainance work, or beeing able to get to connectors on the board itsself because there is no room. The biggest problem can be, that your graphics card might not fit in it because of length or depth.

      B350 boards support Crossfire, but not Nvidia's SLI. If you plan to do multiple Nvidia cards, X370 is it. If you're doing something like 2 RX 480s, then B350 is okay. X370 also adds more Sata and USB 3.1 connectivity vs. B350. Here's a great article detailing the differences. www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2763-amd-chipset-comparison-x370-b350-a320

    So someone will honestly pay an extra typical $100 for a AM4/Ryzen board over an Asus Z270A-Prime (SLI capable)for $169, possibly pay an extra $200 for an 1800X (over a $300 7700K) and then get 10-15% less frames/sec in games??

    • @GuyFromJupiter
      @GuyFromJupiter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, people on that budget will pay $159 for a an Asus prime x370 board ($10 cheaper than the Intel board) and $329 for a Ryzen 7 1700 (also $10 cheaper than Intel's recommended price for the 7700k). And anyone that buys Ryzen will gladly give up that small amount of gaming performance at very high fps for a generally far more powerful CPU than a 7700k.
      Also, if they care about that 10 percent difference in gaming, they can set their games to run on a single CCX and gain back almost all of the fps of the 7700k (the mildly inferior gaming performance comes from Windows rapidly switching cores for any given thread, which causes latency issues with the way Ryzen's cache system is designed, and is something Microsoft is likely to update before long). If you want to know more about what the problem is just Google it. Honestly though, 99 percent of gamers don't give a rat's ass about the difference between 105 fps and 120 fps.
      All that said, I'm not anti-intel. I actually have never owned anything from AMD. People are just so vocal about how disappointed they are with Ryzen, but AMD has really outdone themselves here. Sure they've taken a few shortcuts, but they still managed to deliver the vast majority of Intel's $1000 computing performance at half the price. Factor in overclocking, AMD reaches stock 6900k computing performance with a CPU that's costs a THIRD of the price and using cheaper motherboards to do it. I call that a massive win. I truly am just extremely impressed with what AMD has accomplished. I'm ready to see what Intel can pump out next to compete with AMD's price to performance at the high end enthusiast level. I think it'll be a great few years of innovation at least.

    • @mdd1963
      @mdd1963 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems a reasonably well thought out reply; I just question the irony of the portion about Ryzen owners willing to , "... gladly give up that small amount of gaming performance at very high fps for a generally far more powerful CPU than a 7700k."
      If it were generally 'far more powerful', then in my mind, it would not be taking the spanking that it is in gaming at 1080...

      2 years from now, it will still be outframed by my 7700K; actually hope I'm proven wrong on this, however.....

      No, no, and no. the 7700k is NOT more powerful and I'm getting sick of this same ole, same ole discussion of people that know nothing. The 7700k is more powerful at this point because of how windows is optimized along with the games. The 1800x will blow it out of the water in 6 months. Why don't people like you give time for Microsoft to optimize Windows 10 for the new chip? Do you not understand AMD has had nothing to show for 6 years or better so how can you optimize for a company that hasn't shown anything in a very long time? Simple answer is you can't. Give people some time. Do you not understand that it will take time to optimize the OS? I know you seriously aren't that retarded.

      Let's assume for a moment the 7700K is 'less powerful' than the 1800X. This should make it all the more frustrating to watch the 7700K outframe the 1800X...in every...single...game....ever...made. Will this change in '6 months'...after some OS changes? Mainboard BIOS changes? We shall see. Until then....the 7700K is the better gamer cpu.
