100% some of their best work. Mike portnoys dad was dying from cancer so to say thank you, he wrote this masterpiece of a song.

When people say Dream Theater or John Petrucci aren't melodic and just shred all the time, this is the song I point them to. The solo specifically is one of the best

@@MusicWithToddLedbetter it's a common thing I've heard from people that heard a song or two and don't like the virtuosic playing. Usually they hear something crazy like dance of eternity and form that opinion

@@andrewsitek190 I know Andrew, it is so true. I was being a little sarcastic because your statement is true. I've seen it too. I choose not to be that way, but I can be sarcastic haha. Thanks for your input Andrew, I'm glad you're here.

They’re clueless idiots and haven’t heard anything by petrucci or probably tone deaf. This solo in my opinion is the most beautiful thing ever played on the guitar. Man I hits me differently from the first time I heard it in 2010 and I still and probably forever give me goosebumps with a teary eye.

Andrew, in my opinion the best of times solo is the most beautiful guitar solo to ever be written and played on the guitar. Gives me teary eyes and goosebumps every time I hear it.. jeez and it’s been over a decade since I first heard it.

Literally up there with the greatest guitar solos of all time.

The perfect fade out to a guitar solo and song, where you hang on to every millisecond of sound left to come.

If im not mistaken, it was (by then), the only song with a fade out ending. And it was intentional, as tribute to Portnoys dad, and to what he meant to the band in their early days

Thanks Todd, I agree. It’s like a classic piece, where you have the soft intro with piano, violin and string 🎸
Then you have the explosion, driving into a new soft period.
When the song move into the crescendo and the song just explode into the mass of very professional music

This album had to have some of the most extremely melodic solos plus the audio mixing and production is gold. Anyway I would like to nagg you again with those obscure thrashers putting oriental vibes coming from Dt' Home reaction: Artillery - khomaniac 😁

This song has been written by Mike Portnoy and it is a tribute to his father Harold Portnoy who was very sick, and sadly died a few month's after Mike wrote this song for him , but fortunately he was able to sing it him before he died at his side bed, the two songs that John petrucci wrote about his father were Anthor day and take away my pain
