- A 3 DAY BIKE TOUR with Sarah and her friend Jenny. They took on the challenge of cycling through beautiful countryside, up many hills, including the highest road pass in Wales, to the beautiful book town of Hay-on-Wye. Join them for the adventure!
Details:
Bikes:
Sarah rode her Trek with hand built DT Swiss Wheels (@dtswiss & @trekbikes ) you can find out more about here: • Why You Should Upgrade...
Sarah has @ORTLIEBwaterproof panniers (which are nearly 20 years old and as good as new)
Jenny rode Pauls George Longstaff Touring Bike that you can find out more about here: • My Touring Bike - A Bi...
Jenny had @carradicenelson1615 panniers.
Map and Route:
We used the @SustransLibrary South East Wales Cycle Map for the whole trip. We did not use GPS, apps or mobile mapping.
We got a train from Clifton Down in Bristol to Severn Beach for £1.60.
Day 1 we followed the number 4 route to Newport.
The 47 and 88 to Caerleon where we stayed for the first night.
Day 2 we cycled the 49 along the Brecon and Monmouth Canal to Abergavenny then the 42 to the Vale of Eways.
Day 3 we rode the 42 over the Gospel Pass to Hay on Wye.
We are Velo Works, a small independent cycle business offering handbuilt wheels, vintage bike restorations, an online store and local servicing. We love all things cycling from touring to Bromptons, mountain biking to vintage bikes.
Thanks for letting us join you! It's like being away with a couple of my mates 😀 I'm certainly putting that neck of the woods on my 'to do' tours list...
Aw great to hear you enjoyed it! Do put it on the list it’s a wonderful ride!
Loved this, really inspiring and looking forward to my own cycle touring adventure in the future.
@@Paul9 thanks Paul 👍 hope you have somewhere exciting planned!
Captures the joy of cycle touring 😊
@@MudguardFan thank you 🙏😀
Well you had good weather, beautiful area around Llantony/Hay on Wye…..walked up from Capel-y-Fyn to Offas Dyke footpath on the Big Black Mountain Challenge, it was a killer, you two are a class act, definitely need to see more of your adventures 👍
@@davidharris4062 we were soooo lucky with the weather! Oh that is a killer hill, done it from Llanthony a few times with a lot of rest stops 😂 Thanks so much for watching 👍
The canal is the best place to be when it's hot out. No climbing either :-)
@@CMZPICTURES very true and we took this route for those specific reasons 😀
A lovely video. Inspired to do that Pass. I’ve planned a diy Audax from Newport Gwent to Newport Pembrokeshire 138 miles. On a classic 1982 Raleigh Record Ace.
@@eohohomeeducation3269 aw thanks and thank you for watching. Oh that sounds like an epic ride! Hope you get a tail wind and wonderful weather!
Great video. I have aspirations of doing Lejog and would like to adopt your approach to the journey.
@@MrSportster12 oh wonderful! Yes we were talking about Lejog last night and how we would one day do it over 5-6 weeks with 30/40 miles a day and wiggle up using Sustrans routes only. You see more and really enjoy the journey plus some days you’ll get into camp early and be able to go for a walk / explore!
Was expecting to see the Moulton?
@@johnpot7323 ah not on this trip! Waiting to get the rack back and a bag 👍
@@veloworks9266 I have a rear rack, and bag as well, but not happy with them!
No Brompton ?
Not this time 😀
I normally really enjoy your videos spoilt for me with your friends foul mouth no need to to use that language
