My son and I ate there together right before he died. I haven’t been back. I think it’s time. Thank you for that memory I almost forgot about. Blessings!!!

I love Bertha's Kitchen. Best pork chops and collards (Thursdays) in my opinion. Large chops, lima and rice, collards...I take it to go and then slather hot sauce on everything. So good! Now it is a "hole in the wall" and "on the other side" of the peninsula, so keep that in mind. I used to work on the old ship yard so would go to lunch w/ the technicians on Thursdays. Be sure to go a little before opening (11am I thinks) because the line gets long and doesn't move fast. I sometimes swing by after work and just pickup a couple of chops for the family (and my lima beans/rice)...and it isn't crazy expensive like a lot of things these days.

I went with my friend last November and it was dirty, dusty, no where to sit and BAD service! We were stared at instead of greeted and stood there for 10 minutes and left. Most of their time went to call in orders. Horrible experience and as a black woman I love great soul food. Went to Rodney Scott’s for a real meal!!!

Sorry to hear that, I havent been to Berthas in some months but its generally a take out spot you usually stand in line and order your food. Its not a restaurant where you have a waiter and get seated you stand in line order your food then once you get your food you pick a table to sit down at.

Re: The pork chop- it appears to be an "end" cut rather than a "center" cut. How would you rate that re: the price of the meal? Just curious.

Stop calling my people Africans. We are indigenous to this land and under treaties. The others are all immigrants and economic refugees who had no business being in the United States! Oh and my husband's family were already here, the Haliwa Saponi Indians who they tried to capture and enslave in North Carolina and his family has paperwork to prove they were never enslaved and were here prior to the 1800s, and all of the tactics the NC government tried to use to reclassify them as black or negro. My family was enslaved in Alabama and Arizona, his family resisted. Stop the #ignorance
