Sumi Jo sings 'Villanelle' by Eva Dell'Acqua.
After I posted this performance, many people here in TH-cam
have loved it so much. So, I deleted the old one, and posted this
new one. This has much better quality than the old one.
Anyway, this is a stunning, fabulous and fascinating rendition.

titled "Sumi Jo in Paris - For my Father"
for 20th anniversary of her internatinal debut.
This performance was dedicated to her father.
When she was singing here in Paris, the funeral
of her father was going in Korea.
So, she dedicated this recital to his father,
especially the last song, Ave Maria of Schubert.

콜로라투라와 아질리타 피아니시모도 그렇지만 무엇보다도 저 트릴.....소리가 마치 활짝 피어나는 꽃처럼 향기를 내뿜다가 사그라들고 어느새 유유한 강물처럼 홀 안을 풍성하게 가득채우기도 하고... 목소리 하나로 다양한 그림을 그리는 듯한 재능... 사람 소리가 아니다 정말... 새가 내는 소리에 가깝게 들림. 발성의 길이나 소리크기,공명 자체만 놓고보면 홍혜경샘에게 더 높은 평가가 돌아가겠지만, 소리를 이미지화시킬수 있을정도로 예쁘고 자신만의 스타일로 정교하게 다루는 솜씨에서는 조수미샘이 압도적이다. 이건 어느 성악가에게서도 발견하기 힘든 독보적인 재능임. 카라얀이 괜히 한 세기에 한번 나올까말까하다는 말을 한 게 괜히 한 말이 아니다. 소리가 정말 눈에 보이고 손에 잡히고 듣는사람의 모든 감각을 일깨워 음악 속으로 빨아들인다. 발성과 음악적 경계선과 모든 장르적 문법을 뛰어넘는 자신만의 목소리를 내는 독보적인 가수.
And on the eighth day, God made Sumi Jo.
And what a fine job he did
진짜 소리를 자유자재로 낸다는말은 이럴때 쓰는거같다... 같은음정이라도 제각기다른곳을사용해서 다르게표현하는거 미쳣다...
If there is a better way to spend 6 minutes and 23 seconds listening to music, I have yet to find it. Mesmerising, perfect as always, Sumi Jo.

She is incredible , she even make me like a music I don’t like in the 1st place.
So her recent performance started off with my mom sitting next to me saying, "I think you've lost your sense of feeling a thing", while I was finishing up reading NYtimes article, then ended with my teary standing ovation.
My hands were bruised next day.
Her voice, expressions and gestures bring something deep out of you, and you wonder,
what the heck was that?
Superb showcase of vocal talent, artistry and class! Bravissima!!! I just cant get over the crescendo- decrescendo sequence... It was I who ended breathless:)

Ich habe sie erst vor einigen Monaten entdeckt. So eine wunderschöne Stimme und keine Starallüren à la Callas oder Netrebko. Sie kann was und vermittelt doch immer Demut vor dem Komponisten.

la version de Nathalie Dessay est laborieuse, pas celle de SumiJo.. Vous avez essayé de chanter cet air ? Avec SumiJo , on voit passer les hirondelles, c'est magique

I love it! unfortunately I can't watch her mouth, my vocal instructor would crucify me if I moved my jaw as much as she does.
Paige every mouth and jaw is different. To reach high notes you must open your mouth....change your vocal instructor darling.
Sumi Jo is beautiful - & remains beautiful even when she opens her mouth. And her technique is perfection .....
whatever it takes to produce those tones and sounds and control... break every rule if you have to for music - your ears (& heart!) are the only true judge.
@Karina Graciela Salazar. You wrote "To reach high notes you must open your mouth".
"Open" can mean different things to different people. There is open and ooooopen. See for instance Diana Damrau in her wonderful Traviata here on TH-cam. She does open her mouth but only for the very forceful and very high notes, otherwise it barely moves.
