Gregory was certainly an actor with a memorable voice/presence and performed in a wide variety of roles. Gregory served during WWII in the Pacific theatre with the Marines and continued to remain in contact with many after the war. His time in the military instilled a sense of duty, honor, and discipline that continued to influence his personal and professional choices. Of these movies, my favorites would be On the Beach, The Guns of Navarone, and the little-known true story The Scarlet and the Black. Overall, my favorite movies of his are Roman Holiday and To Kill a Mockingbird (IMO his best film).
That last closeup of Peck in "The Scarlett and the Black" is the most intense.

one of my fave's, "old gringo", mexican rev. and as such a western too.!...................
