My Brother in law knew him .. he was a prison guard on the block he was housed on the last few years of his life up untill he died in new york… he said that Butch was “Not there” when you would talk to him.. like he was out of his mind completely nuts.. he was a calm and docile prisoner.. you could never get him to answer any questions about what happen with his family.. the inly time he would ever refer to them was in the past tense.. that was once a year when prison administrators would update all the inmates emergency contact information. They would ask “ Butch you have someone you want us to contact incase of an emergency, like relatives?” … he would always say “Not anymore.” With a smirk.
I've been fascinated by this case for years, and this was an interesting and entertaining discussion. Thanks for posting it for us. Cheers from Canada! : )
None of the nearby neighbors heard the gun shots either. If you've ever been woken by a very loud noise, you don't know what exactly it is the woke you usually. So, if it was only one gunshot, that would be one thing. One neighbor reported hearing a barking dog, but NO ONE said that they had heard gunshots.
I’d say they must have heard them next door both sides were only 50 ft or thereabout away, maybe the defeos connection to the mob had a lot to do with their hearing problems.
DeFeo died in prison in March of 2021- but yeah, I'd like to think he never would have been paroled...but with some of the examples of the Justice system...you never know. Enjoyed your presentation. 👍
@@ilona3092 There are a lot of questions on this case. Some things, like no one hearing the gun shots, but then again it was the early morning hours and the windows were most likely closed since it was mid November. It's also confusing that he has changed his story a number of times from confessing to the killings due to hearing voices to a mafia hit man then to blaming his sister Dawn.
I don’t believe he committed these murders alone, two different bullet fragments from different guns in his mom and the fact that six people shot so someone would have heard and gotten out of bed, although I heard one report that said they laid them back in bed after they were shot, but there is no way butch did this all by himself.
I believe there was a thunderstorm the night of the murders and because it was the middle of the night, perhaps they all were just heavy sleepers and just didn't hear it coming, as butch said it happened so fast....... but I've never understood how and why they all were found on their stomachs. THAT is very odd. I never sleep on my stomach but on that night you have 6 people that did.
NO THERE WAS NOT A THUNDERSTORM THAT NIGHT. BUTCH PUT THE SHEEPDOG OUT AND THE NEIGHBORS HERD THE DOG BARKING AT 3:15 am . THE SHEEP DOG HATED BUTCH. DAWN DEFEO ALSO HAD UNSPENT GUN POWDER ON HER DRESS WHICH MEANS SHE HAD FIRED A WEAPON. ALSO THERE WAS A NOTE THAT BUTCH DEFEO WAS BLIND IN ONE EYE. BOB KELSKE WAS A;SO A COMPLACENCE IN THE MURDERS. THERE WERE TWO GUNS USED IN THE MURDERS
ALSO THERE WAS A DEA AGENT WATCHING THE DEFEO HOUSE THAT NIGHT AND HE SAID THERE WAS A FEMALE CARRYING A GUN OUT THE BACK DOOR. BUTCH ALSO BROKE IN TO THE HOUSE THOUGH THE KITCHEN WINDOW.
@Melanie Jarrett I have heard these theories about the DEA before too. There was the thought that Ronnie Sr and Jr. were using their mafia connections to run drugs through the house, which were delivered through the back by boat on the Amityville river. I don't know how true these stories are, but I have heard them a few times before as well : )
Butch did not tell the truth one time. No one could believe anything he said after he admitted killing them all. He may have been abused by his dad, but the kids posed him no threat to him except when it came time to collect on life insurance.
In one of his interviews he said he thought it was all BS. but then in another one said he heard disembodied screams and voices. He changed his story so often I don't put a lot of stock in anything he said
@@caveman3021 I agree, Ron Jr. was never a reliable source. I believe after watching many documentaries through the years on this case, that it all began with the entire family being dysfunctional and Ron Sr. being violently abusive. I believe based on the evidence, Ron Jr, a drug addict who was deeply disturbed, phytologically, committed the murders while in a drug fueled rage. No demons needed.
@@deannadove3505 Yes! Some think he did it for the life insurance money. Apparently while being interrogated he asked police how to cash it in. You'd think he'd at least wait until their bodies were cold before asking these questions🤨
The problem with that is there is no way she slaughtered her family then put on her pj’s and went to bed. Also, The coroner stated all the victims were killed where they lay.
Ballistics determined that all 8 cartridges came from one weapon that was found hidden behind the house and registered to Butch. In addition The coroner stated all the victims were killed where they lay, including Dawn.

Great job. Good video. 👍🏻
Thank you
i HAVE EVERY DOCUMENTARY AND BOOK ABOUT THE CASE. IVE BEEN STUDYING THIS FOR EVERY 30 YEARS. I EVEN HAVE THE ONE THAT RYAN KAZENBACH DID.
Is the Katzenbach doc the one that aired on REELZ Channel awhile back? Is it on DVD? (narrated by Ed Asner, I think?)
Hey man reply to these people

That is true, none of them claimed to have heard anything in those early morning hours just the dog. Definitely weird they didn't hear anything.

6 rounds of .35 Remington from a carbine length barrel?
No way even a thunderstorm would cover that up .
@Melanie Jarrett Exactly it’s very odd.
@Melanie Jarrett it’s one of them cases we will probably never know for sure what happened we can only surmise unfortunately.

He was never getting out.
how come in the movie, Amityville Murders, Dawn and Butch were twins? just wondering...
I would guess creative license. Make it more dramatic by one twin killing the other twin.
Honestly I don't think so that
Butch killed his whole family.I think that he's been framed.

Nope. He did it all, totally solo....
Not in the same spirit, but Karen Silkwood, famous Whistleblower, died that night!
I can’t believe butch killed his whole family like that and now Jr is dead since March 12th this year
@Melanie Jarrett I...guess so! I mean something just wasn’t right. What do you think?
