    Damn this is a good channel. Three videos in here and it's like ever sentence and concept is explained exactly the way my brain wants to receive it all. Old man here returning to the modern home studio and this is truly excellent. The $3400 studio deconstruction was especially brilliant. Many many thanks.

    sir, i have a question....
    whenever i upload my track to SoundCloud and then listen it back to SoundCloud app, it sounds distorted in louder sections...
    i just have a gclip on my master,(to make sure everything is below 0db), and i usually keep my mix loud and clear...
    i upload wav....
    what could be my solution....
    sorry if this question is annoying, but im having this problem from last 6 months .... so any answer would be a LIFE CHANGER for me...
    thanks for reading....

    • @SidotiSound
      @SidotiSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like it could be a couple of things. 1st. what LUFS is your song averaging? Sound cloud, iTunes, Spotify etc. mess with your song if it’s average loudness is too hot. 2nd. Try setting your limiter ceiling to -1. Sometimes when the conversion (on their end) from wav to mp3 happens it can jack things up if your file is already clipping. What limiter are you using? Do you have a good meter plugin that shows RMS levels or LUFS?

    • @vasudevmaheshwari1210
      @vasudevmaheshwari1210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SidotiSound ohh sir thanks for replying...
      here's the way I produce
      actually, i keep my mix loud and clear....
      as i produce edm, so my drops are the loudest part of my tracks at around -3 lufs (i use youlean loudness meter)
      so as my mix is already loud, i just put a gclip on the master, which does nothing but just keep me below 0, so i dont go in red zone on master...
      and i also have a eq pro q3 with a low cut below 28hz (the slope is perpendicular 90°)....
      so thats just the two things, a gclip and a eq on my master... i dont use any limiter....
      and if you think my drop are very loud, but i know many artists whose tracks are same loud and sound perfect on SoundCloud...
      a fact : the song only distorts on the SoundCloud mobile app, not on the web pc or Chrome mobile...
      and here's another thing, as i was struggling with this distortion problem... i did this...
      i made a song in which i kept my mix quieter.... and then added a limiter on master, which was just increasing the gain... as this method of production (like keeping mix low and adding a limiter at end for volume) is practiced by.most of the peoples... and this method was opposite the way i normally use...
      but still i wasn't able to resolve the problem, it still sounded distorted on drops on SoundCloud app...
      and i listened to other peoples music on sc app, and that was ok....
      im sorry, if this message was annoying, but i tried to explain every thing clearly.. so won't get confused....
      btw thanks a lot man for replying me, u r so humble...
      love from india

      @@vasudevmaheshwari1210 Wow !!-3 LUFS is crazy. I think for EDM -7 should be max. A very loud rock song is -8 LUFS and Spotify considers loud to be -11 LUFS. If your at -3 then your gonna have nothing but problems with them turning your song down. If it were me, I'd remaster at -8 for SoundCloud.
      Spotify = -13 to -15 / Apple Music = -16 plus or minus 1. / Soundcloud = -8 to -13

    • @vasudevmaheshwari1210
      @vasudevmaheshwari1210 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SidotiSound yeah... i know.... people say its crazy always...😂😛
      but SoundCloud actually dont have volume normalisation, I guess... but other platforms have...
      but i think i should try this...
      take my finalized loud track in a new project.... add a limiter and set the cieling to -1... I guess it should work?
      or you suggest anything else

    • @SidotiSound
      @SidotiSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vasudev Maheshwari no that won’t work at all. That will make the LUFS even more because you’d be cutting off the 1Db of dynamics. Soundcloud for sure has volume standards and your -3 is blowing way past that. I think you should re mix it so that your at -8 LUFS. Which is very loud. I think your missing the point on “loud” if you bounced it at -8 or -14 it’s going to be the same volume on SoundCloud once they process it. Anything above -8 is not making it louder. It’s just squashing the crap out of it.

    Great stuff, Joe. You seem like a well-informed and decent guy, so you got a new sub. I’ve been looking around at mastering engineers fees recently, and found that you can hire the best of the best for around US$150 for a single song. That might sound expensive to some, but if you can afford it I think it’s a wise investment to have pro ears evaluate and massage your baby.

    Awesome channel. I watched the don't spend 3400 dollar video first after 2 days ago spending 3400 dollars lol. But I believe I spent it well. Adding the Presonus 32SX to my studio. I produced an album in 96 called Change The World and used guess who, Bernie Grundman to Master it. I've A/B it to my mix and it's different but not sure how much better it is. This was a great video. I recorded everything with a Mackie 24X8 buss mixer to Alexis blackface adats which I still have. Now using Pro Tools 9 and MacBook Pro. I'm a new fan! You're down to earth videos are great!

    I understand not reinventing the wheel, but also there needs to be originality. If everyone is copying the next, then mixing & mastering will never get better and evolve.

    Just wanted to chime in. They asked for the 16bir 44.1K for the CD master because that is the max bit depth and sample rate that CD can handle. I have to master for CD for one of my clients all the time. Most streaming platforms perform best at different bit depth and sample rates as well but it's not necessary like it is for CD.

    • @SidotiSound
      @SidotiSound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case no CD’s were being replicated. I’m aware of the Red Book requirements. This was for streaming only. Which is why it seems weird that they wanted 16 bit 44.1

    • @matt_nyc_audioengineer
      @matt_nyc_audioengineer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SidotiSound My mistake! I totally thought you said that they were for CD's, sorry about that. That is strange although a client of mine asked for the same thing recently, he said that the website he was trying to upload too suggested it for the best quality. Typically for streaming, I use 24 48 sometimes 44.1 but I thought it was weird too. Maybe it was the same site!
