I'm surprised you could say 5 to 6 inch rod with a straight face. But seriously, I carry a Gobspark in blaze orange and it"s awesome. Throws some massive sparks. Great review sir, keep 'em coming and thank you.
Voyager XL Tanto is one of my EDCs. Yep, I carry it on a belt pouch horizontally. This is the largest folder I can carry horizontally on my belt. I carry another folder. I only use the Voyager for heavy tasks and as a back up defense knife. I am really happy with it. Been carrying it for 6 months without any issues. Good vid. Thanks for sharing.
I have the Schrade SCHF26 knife and it is one which was reviewed on several TH-cam channels and it was rated highly, and I love it so far. It is a full tang knife and can do so much. As for water filters I have the Sawyer brand which can filter out thousands of gallons before it has to be replaced. I now own a Corona saw and it is highly rated. This is one item which is needed in any environment and it will serve my purpose where I live. My backpack came from the nearest military base and is great and I loved it once seen.
G'day Chris, Good list. Rick L. did a ferro rod for me and my primary knife. It's truly the best I've ever used. I pack my standard CS XL Voyager for bush trips. Lose your primary blade and you've still got a rock solid cutting tool that's about the safest folder on the planet. Well done... yeah these vids are fun. More please from the other reviewers.
One question I've always had was, what if you have to leave your area in the summer? Do you take your winter stuff, too, or hope you'll find something in time for the change? In many situations, you can't take everything. You might grab one or two bags, but that won't do you in the long run. Yes, you can take water filter straws, thermal space blankets, first air kit, knives, tool pack, but when is it too much, and how do you get things down to a manageable level? I'd like to see someone cover that.
I have a 10k mah Anker and a cheapy 10k mah powerbank. I use them both but I tend to use the cheap one more often just for the reason of saving the internal battery on the Anker, which I do love btw. Works flawlessly
A hatchet to me is better then an over sized knife. Easier to chop wood and the hammer effect for driving in stakes is a plus. Second would be my canteen belt with two canteens with cooking cup and 8" knife. A wool blanket, sleeping bag, para cord, a back pack. compass, tarps, trash compacter bags.A farel rod/ magenism fire starter.
Love that vanquest Ibex 30, I did a review of the survivor filter that never made it out because I wasn't sure about who stole whos idea with respect to renovo/ survival filter 0.05 microns.
+Canadian Prepper Renovo was around long before the Survivor Filter came around. I was going to look at the pump filter, but it wasn't hermetically wrapped. So how good is that charcoal? When was it made? Didn't feel good about it.
+PREPAREDMIND101 I bought a Survivor because I couldn't find a Renovo (even on their site) last summer. Just looked and there they are. So I'm off to see if they are on your Amazon store. The Survivor does seem well made by the way.
After watching your video on the LA pants a couple years ago I bought four pair. Great pants and I still can't believe they were only $20. Sawyer mini, three seasons and several hundred liters filtered and never had an issue. For $20 that is a great piece of gear.
I broke mine the other day, about two inches of the tip. Went back to Lowe's on Friday and replaced it... Just a great saw, at a great price... Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion on this topic, I appreciate it sir.
That's a mighty fine list you got there. I agree with everything except for the lighter. And you showcased why. Too windy, no fire. Should've used your torch lighter. Much more reliable.
I like my FKMD Meskwaki Tracker better than that regular Cold Steel toy. But I had to add a pocket clip to it to be able to pocket carry, which I do day in, day out. Not exactly EDC, but to walk the dogs around the neighborhood.
I own a few of the Schrade knives. Not the Jessica. The Frontier is my favorite. The Bowie (Leroy) is pretty much a short sword tucked into my belt since its got a tiny belt loop. The Frontier's belt loop is innovative! I liked the Little Ricky, but didn't hang onto it for too long when a friend insisted on buying it! The Ricky is a monster! Half knife. Half Kukri. I do like the Frontier best though.
That's a very nice list, and thanks for clearing up the Renovo/Survivor conundrum. As far as I know you're the only person who has cared enough to do that. Kudos to you.
Great list, Chris. This is your cousin Douglas.. I'm hoping to see your Dad this week. Let me know if you will be around, it would be great to catch up over the last 30+ years lol. Love the channel
Most of the time the Cold Steel knives are built like tanks and are sharp as razors. Alas, the new CTS-XHP steel that Lyn Thompson is using tends to be not nearly as sharp as the AUS8A he used to use in his knives, though his new wondersteel tends to keep the edge it comes with almost forever. Perhaps that's why Jim Rawles stipulated that the new knife bearing his name come with a chisel grind. Too bad it's ground on the left side and not the right. If you're left-handed, it's a great knife.
hey Chris, curious if you've looked into and researched or even handled the hazard 4 evac plan-b sling pack or the rocket sling pack? I'm a huge fan of the sling style bags, and thus I'm torn between the hazard 4 and the Rapdom t311 you sell in your Amazon store. the biggest pro the hazard 4 bag has for my needs is that it can hold an AR15 broken down for concealment and range use, but also fully assembled due to the hydration tube hole in the top. I like having that option and capability. on the other hand the Rapdom has a lot more pockets therefore organization and geared towards everyday use. the size of either is not an issue for me but keep in mind which ever I choose will be used as my edc bag, and soon to be diaper bag lol! anyone with experience of either one or both please feel free to comment. thanks for your time.
Jessica X is definitely bang for the buck , no cries of issue in doubt with that blade., that being said the cold steel folder I reminds me of the Applegate folding "combat knife equally as useless. The rest of the list splendid choices !
@@stgeorge6947 You're a dumb a... Schrade f-ed it up and put a hollow grind on it. Now the tip busts off in a heartbeat, and the edge busts off in 1/4 inch chunks. THAT'S why no one is buying it. Do you think more people would shop at the PM101 Amazon store if there was a filter to list all products by lowest/highest price? I'm frugal and it is the first thing I look for. The filter to show all the products in the category according to price, lowest price to highest. It takes a long time to sift through 5+ pages of products to find the lowest priced items.
Hi Man, my Nitecore SRT3 Defender is just been stolen in Mexico. I have 10 CR123A left ... it was a great torch, not very reliable on batteries time but I still like it. For the same amount of money have you got any suggestion ? the size ( without the central metal part ) was perfect for me. THANKS
Chris, I don't think you will respond to this, but there is one thing that seems to be overlooked when it comes to phones, comp, tablets, etc. Phones and other technological pieces all carry GPS circuits. Which means that if you are in a SHTF situation and you are trying to keep a low profile that government can simply turn on a satellite and zero in on your location. If you own a phone or comp manufactured after 2000 chances are you have a GPS coordinate sender in your tech. Also, I have yet to hear anyone do anything on Infra red. Satellites with Infrared are used daily by the Govt. Black plastic cuts it off. But it is something to think about if, again, the SHTF.
I purchased a cellular, that can be turned completely blind. It also comes with a garbled "secure" line that I may speak freely to another buddy with a similar cellular. Check out your local spy store.
If your are preparing only for extreme and unlikely circumstances...If it a natural disaster you might want to be found. in a true survival situation with no electricity how would you charge your chargers? one of my favorite items to have is Goal Zero Guide 10 Plus kit. it comes with a 7 Watt solar panel and the charger itself which holds 4 AAA or 4 AA rechargeable batteries. from that most of the electronic stuff that I buy I try to pick something that uses those two types of batteries. such as flashlight or radios. it doesn't take up much room and it's an awesome little tool to have. plus if you leave the batteries in the charging unit then it acts as a charging unit with a USB port small flashlight and even a place to plug in a cigarette lighter adapter... Cool item... Just my thoughts
+Jim U Not everything is a "lost in the wilderness for weeks" situation. I've talked about that at length. More than enough common, everyday emergencies. I don't obsess about stuff that only happens to .0000001% of people.
A good power bank is essential in any prep kit. Trouble is most of them are using cheap cells and the amp ratings are pure fantasy. I couldn't find what I wanted in a complete package so I've been using twin cell host banks from china and I put the sanyo ncr18650ga cells in there to get the sort of mah I'm looking for. It also allows me to charge the cells individually in an Xtar vc4 charger. I was a bit sceptical about the diy host bank but so far they work flawlessly and out perform most of the 4 cell banks you see all over eBay and amazon.
I usually like wearing carpenters' pants or something like that. Something with that loop on the pant-leg. I carry a hatchet with me if I'm in the woods, and it's neat to just have that on me if I need it.
Who are the companies that you use for custom sheaths? I just bought a Tops BOB Fieldcraft. I would like to give it a custom sheath. I can't decide on either kydex or leather.
Like the video. I like the simple things even that key ring and whats on it. Most people never think of that. I do. Just throwing this out there maybe i dont know what im talking about but i think it wouldnt hurt to have a small whistle maybe a tops flat whistle on your keys for emergency. No your not going to use it in the city. Maybe if theres a mugger and your a lady but depending on where u live if u hike or ride a bike or crash your car deep into the woods from hitting black ice your pinned and cant reach your phone that went flying or it got crushed u can increase your chances of getting help dramatically.
Those pants are decent. I bought three pairs after seeing your review on them. I've since switched to propper. I've managed to tear up the LA police gear ones pretty good but the propper pants are still like new. There is a price difference though of course.
The Survivor knife (1st item) had Taiwan stamped on one side of the blade. How's the quality of that steel? Also, your thoughts on the $19 LifeStraw? Also filters down to 0.2 microns. Thank you for sharing your research. Helps me throw out a few items, purchase a few more.
Thanks Chris for the info..I was wondering which water filter to purchase on your site but now I know what is tried and tested by you. Also when your out in the woods, how many knives do you bring with you? Thanks again..
+Billy Quan A lot. Not because there's a "right" amount, but I like knives. And I'm always testing something on top of what I bring for myself, which is usually a JX and a Jessmuk.
I was wondering where you got that sheath for the corona razor saw? I have the saw also but haven't seen that case before. I just looked around online and couldn't find it.
hey Chris it could be worse, yesterday it was 51degrees, today is 31, and they said we'll get this cold from for another 3-4 days. I like your videos man
I was wondering why the first post was down. i was thinking oh here goes Chris nit picking his video and didnt like it. Well now the anticipation of whatever you couldn't show is setting in.
Great video, I like to use north face hiking pants that zipper convert into shorts, gets real hot up here in north state california. Also I like high carbon steel knives for spark creation onto chaga, or char cloth from quarts rock, or hardness 7+ rock. Have a hammock, grand trunk with tarp for shelter with revelation quilt, fully opens, awesome. Wondering if solar charger will work with the power core?
keep in mind guns to me is for entertainment you don't need a gun to survive where I'm from we use our hands to defend ourselves even when opponents got guns but they're nice to have for their different variations and performances for the gun range

Who are the companies that you use for custom sheaths? I just bought a Tops BOB Fieldcraft. I would like to give it a custom sheath. I can't decide on either kydex or leather.
+heavy265 Yellow Hawk, C2GFAB, Azwelke are my primary guys
According to Lynn Thompson a XL Viyager is an EDC. Why? Well, Why Not, this is America, sometimes Lynn carries a sword because he can
Thats why you should stock what you eat and eat what you stock. So it doesnt go old.
Which pants do you recommend? The ones with the elastic waist band or the ones without?
+Michael Saull with. Haven't tried anything else.
I noticed you said you didn't think it would be that big...did you think it would be smaller than the AUS8a versions you reviewed before?
I EDC a XL vaquero,6" ti lite or large luzon.
+Dan Pershing Its American CTS-XHP steel. Excellent.
I've got some cold steel stuff and I love them. my question is why do so many people hate on cold steel products?
Chris, I can see why your so proud of your "Jess" a pretty lady, an your knife is awesome too! Should say knives, keep up the vids really enjoy them!
I was wondering where you got that sheath for the corona razor saw? I have the saw also but haven't seen that case before. I just looked around online and couldn't find it.
+Nick Brown Look up Copperhead Custom Concealment.
LoL I felt like I was watching myself when you talked about the Ohio weather.
I'm near Akron and we had 70 and sunny on Wednesday and it freaking snowed on Saturday. Great video
Same with PA weatherwise 70 on Thurs. Snowing on Sat.
Hey Chris, What did you mean when you said there might be a new Ibex coming out? I need to know if i should wait to buy the new one.
+Sam Foster new one is smaller (IBEX-20)
hey Chris it could be worse, yesterday it was 51degrees, today is 31, and they said we'll get this cold from for another 3-4 days. I like your videos man
I was wondering why the first post was down. i was thinking oh here goes Chris nit picking his video and didnt like it. Well now the anticipation of whatever you couldn't show is setting in.
like that cold steel knife reminds me of my recon 1 xl tanto carry it everyday
Great video, I like to use north face hiking pants that zipper convert into shorts, gets real hot up here in north state california. Also I like high carbon steel knives for spark creation onto chaga, or char cloth from quarts rock, or hardness 7+ rock. Have a hammock, grand trunk with tarp for shelter with revelation quilt, fully opens, awesome. Wondering if solar charger will work with the power core?
Also been looking at the Pack Wheel for heavier loads, still debating, it says it will hold 200lbs. Im tempted for long hikes, maybe pct
keep in mind guns to me is for entertainment you don't need a gun to survive where I'm from we use our hands to defend ourselves even when opponents got guns but they're nice to have for their different variations and performances for the gun range
Great Stuff on Your List, I Really Enjoyed This Video!
