Thank you very much for this and the front shocks videos! I have an ‘84 Caprice-feeling every bump now! I’ll likely replace the coil springs along with the shocks. Now, I know what I’m facing with the shocks-thanks again!

appreciate the upload and taking the time to make the video. You make it look easy. my nuts and bolts look way different. No visible threads due to rust. lots and lots of rust. LOL

Hi, I started to change my rear airlift shocks on my 77 4dr sedan. The good news is that the bolts are mounted with a torque wrench so they came off easy. I have 13 mm upper and under bolts ( nut and bolt) . The lower as the same size as yours. I had no problem to reach the bolt because i removed all air and extended the shock so it got slimmer close to the upper bolts. The new AC delco shock even has the same casting and seem to be molded from a original shock. The car is heavy so maybe you can put air lift shocks later on. This is my first step. Next year I will change the lower and upper control arms and the coil springs. The rear upper control arms seem to be impossible to buy. So i must restore them. Dorman has the lower arms.
You video helped me a lot I watched it two times during the process, thanks a lot. I also ordered a new fuel tank and a sender, so I watched your video there to :)

Note: My father changed the fuel tank 1987 in Sweden. So original it has 79.6 liters. But when I removed it it has 72 liters. So, I don't know what happened back in the days why he put a 72 liter tank. My only thought is that aftermarket was cheaper or that GM original was hard to find. But internet did not exist so original should have been the 1st option to buy.

Interesting. From the shop manual for the 1985 Caprice/Impala, Monte Carlo, and El Camino, the fuel tank for the B series was 25 gallons, 26 gallons, or 22 gallons, depending on the engine, fuel type, and configuration. For the G series, V6, the fuel tank was 17.6 gallons, for the V8 base, it was 18.1 gallons, and for the El Camino optional, it was 22 gallons. More spread than I expected. I always took for granted that the 25 gallon tank was standard. Perhaps there are subtle differences due to the body shape, the trunk configuration, the engine size, weight, etc., and that multiple size fuel tanks were possible if somebody wanted a smaller tank.

Finally did my rear shocks on my 78 Cadillac Coupe. If you recall, I commented on your other video where you did the front shocks and I did them too. I finally bought a 3 ton floor jack and installed it today. Your top bolts come down and mine on my Caddy they go up wards 🤷‍♂️ I did place them like you did, threads down but then decided to put them how they were. 😎

Whats the quality of the monroe shocks? Is there any negative you cam think of with Monroe? I need airlifts. Im think about AC delco also. Which is the length of the upper bolts? Thanks.

I’ve been very happy with the Monroe shocks. No problems or complaints with them at all. I don’t remember the length of the upper bolts.

My caprice seems to have some sort of thin tubes going to the shocks. No idea what they are. Can you tell what's their pourpose?

Not sure. Different generation of Caprice after 1990.
