  • Here is my honest review of the Imax Oceanic Thermo suit bib, brace and jacket set. The pros, cons and issues I have experienced.
I do recommend both items for value for money, but if I was you to purchase one. It would be the bib and brace. Here are links to both items

On your recommendation I bought the grey Imax bib and brace as my Imax floatation suit was falling apart. My new Imax suit is constantly wet inside from sweating causing condensation. I can not ware the jacket or bib and brace for very long as it gets very wet in there. The point of a coat is to keep you warm and dry even when walking. Yes the jacket bib and brace do not breath so you need to use two coats on a cold winters day to go fishing one to get to the venue then the Imax suit when there. But do not exert your self in any way as this will cause you to sweat and make the inside of the suit very very wet. Very counter productive clothing and for me a total waste of money. Under normal storage conditions the inside of the suite will attract condensation and become wet, so wet you can actually ring some water out of the end of the water logged sleeves.

👍🏻🤣😂 Finally, someone says it...YOU WILL NOT FIND A WATERPROOF THAT YOU CAN SWEAT IN‼️ This is an expensive lesson for a lot of people. So many fabrics and brands that claim this and that but it is very simple... as soon as sweat beads, it's only going to be absorbed, it will not turn itself magically into a gas and "breath" itself away 🤣😂. On a serious note, that in itself can lead to hypothermia. Functional layers folks. John, you're a legend, thank you 👍🏻

I've got an Imax bib and brace and I agree that it's good. The really good thing was that I got it from a local charity shop, it looked brand new and I only paid £5.00 for it. I've got all my waterproofs from such outlets, its always worth checking them out.

Thanks for your detailed reply, it made fascinating reading, great times now sadly passed. I had a similar experience in my youth back in the 1950s. Before school I always went with my grandfather to milk the cows on the farm. It was sadly all sold after he died in 1958. It's good that our memories are still good enough to remember these far off days. Don't know what I did but I can't find you wonderful reply. Keep dreaming.

Great honest and informative review. I have had a few friends with this set and they found the same inside leg and zips to go. I have a Dickies padded and waterproof overall and works great also has the bonus of re-enforceed knees and option of adding a padded insert to protect the further. Very warm though 👍

    Really good review John.
The right knee ripped on my set just as you described so I made a fix with a 10cmx20cm self adhesive patch purchased from eBay. It was so good a repair I actually patched the other leg side to prevent a further rip.
If and when I buy another pair I think I would patch the knees to give the suit extra strength.

Good honest review John. The moisture problem could be addressed to a degree by including vent zips which you can open while walking to your mark. My approach for cold weather shore fishing is to use a 200 g Metallux all in one diving drysuit under suit and then the thin Vass jacket and bib over to provide a waterproof layer. This allows for easy cleaning as I can just throw the Vass gear in the washing machine when I get home.

I've had the revise Imax ARX thermo suit (navy blue). And ye the bib and brace ripped on one of the knee's and the jacket pockets fell to bits. Now got the same suit as yours now. But got the smock version of your jacket. And they do seem better quality than my old suit. Only bad point is the smock could of done with hand warmer pockets.

I have an Imax bib & brace floatation suit sadly as with most things today nothing is built to last and usually come with an expected shelf life. I have found the old army type poncho good for beach and pier fishing use a belt or a small bungee around the waist. Likewise, I would not recommend a poncho for use in a boat. A poncho can be rolled up and worn after the walk to the venue.

Great review John, you can certainly tell when someone’s not being paid to review. Quick question, is there any reason why they’re grey and black? Being on a boat or in the dark all 2 piece suits I’ve had such as Fladen are bright colours for the obvious reasons. These look more like a motorbike suits?
