Garret, that really sucks, fortunately you carry insurance for such events. Your honesty is what’s most important, best advertising you can, well, buy. You’re not dumb and going to let someone take advantage of you, but IF you do mess up you say so and make it right. A business that is honest is a business that will prosper. The employees feel good working for you, customers have peace of mind hiring you. You will grow as big as you desire, your name is solid.
The 10ft marker is a great idea to give you visuals while in the machine. I had been using orange cones to mark obstacles, still backed over a well recently.
I see how they made you pay but my thing would be is that it wasn’t built to the proper specifications so that in my opinion would be on the trailer park to help Atleast foot part of the bill and the inspector who passed it should be at fault also
It happens from time to time. 30k you can bounce back from. It’s the 1-2 million dollar hits that can put a company outta business. Learn from our mistakes and keep on getting it every day.
I got a gas line at 4:pm on a Friday 15 boom truck cops fire dept and it was all overtime for the 15 guys cost 120k must have the right insurance or it will put you out of business and with a plastic gas line vice grip it and call someone you know to fix good show garret
Many small businesses and customers ignore insurance. Hiring a contractor make sure they are insured, running a business get insurance. Sucks to pay until you really need it.
I'm a 21 y/o fence builder and hit a gas line with my mt100. I had a private locator and he didn't mark the neighbour's gas line. Turns out the utility company doesn't respect private locates, all the while it was an infraction that they put the neighbour's gas line on my main client's property. I'm still getting the bill but I'm gonna fight it. Probably around 3-5k when I get the bill.
The private locator can't mark the neighbors lines, they usually need to get inside the house to connect to lines there so they can locate them in the yard. If that line you hit crossed over into your customers property I would rest easy, there is no way you are at fault for that.
There’s not a chance in France I’d be paying that water bill or taking the L It wasn’t initially done correct, not your fault. I’d definitely work with them but there’s no way that was 💯 your fault
“ Education is expensive & experience is priceless” I literally say this once a day…😅 check us out on here you will see one or two. But handled it perfect! I’ve earned more customers off of mistakes I’ve made then doing any job to perfection. It’s not about the mistakes you make is how you handle them. 😎🤙
Yes, I would like to hear more. Love your honesty and stories.
Thanks for being honest and I’m glad you’re able to laugh about it with your positive attitude now!
