They don't bite, and the males chirping sounds so beautiful and relaxing to me ..... maybe because when you go outside on a warm summers night you can hear them, and it makes me think of camping ..... but for whatever the reason I just love them. I feel really bad when I feed them to my mantis ..... (don't worry I feed her other insects as well .... I know crickets shouldn't be a staple diet item) ......... I think so many people dislike the smell because their not cleaning their enclosure enough. Anything will begin to smell if it's in an enclosure with excrement everywhere ..... and next to old food you give them!! Just keep them clean with fresh water, and fresh food and maybe more people would learn to love them too :)
Happened to me once, when my cat had the bright idea to tip over the extra large curver box (filled with adult crickets) that was sitting on top of my shelves. Box on the ground, lid fell off of course, hundreds of crickets everywhere. Let me tell ya, trying to "catch" them was a pain in the ass. Of course I wasn't able to get them all, so at night it was as if we were living/sleeping in the bush somewhere in the middle of Africa. Oh my :) thank god you posted this video "how to breed crickets" Instead of wasting all that money for crickets now i just have to breed them:))) my turtle "spike" said "thank you " lol hes so happy
I have usually three enclosures. 1. for adults ready to feed my bearded dragon 2. for sub adults around 6 weeks after they were hatched. 3. for non hatched and baby crickets. To move the crickets from one enclosure to the other I simple pour the crickets into the next enclosure. If I have more time i use the tubes and egg cartons and shake them into the nex encolsure. No rocket science here :-)
My eggs hatched yesterday. I got a lot of baby. They are very cute and aggresive. When they age 1-10 day I feed them with puree quaker oat and some baby milk without water. I spray water every 2 days. Thanks for this video pal
I got attached to a little cricket in class and how he's my science project. This video has helped me a bunch on what to do further and how to demonstrate the mating process and lifestyle of these adorable creatures. Thanks a ton!
The reason for the two tanks is simple that somethimes I have two different generation of hatchilings and I try to put each of them in a separate tank. So i avoid canibalism and figths of the crickets. The grid over the soil is from a DIY market and prevents that the adult crickets eating the eggs. Thanks for liking my video! :-)
I must admit my crickets never live long as Bartl is very hungry. :-) But I think the adult Crickets would like a month or so. Currently I am gave my adult crickets already the third box of soil, one of them has already completely hatched the second one is just about to strart. So far I have no problems with to generation of baby circkets in the same tank.
They are, and I have 3 crickets that love life. They live in a 10 gallon tank and have had them for 8 months. They are very healthy. I can actually take them out and handle them. They love their tank, they never try to get away. One of them actually hangs out on my arm for a while and watches the tv. Weird, but true. I have had a couple live a bit over a year. They are ringed crickets and said to only live 90 days. They are like little cats if you give them enough attention.
Ok so i,m building a venus fly trap farm. So far I have 1,600 Carnivorous plants and I have been planning on growing crickets to feed each of my plants and they can grow bigger and faster. The funny thing is I never thought that I would be so excited to buy a couple of dozen crickets in a pet shop to take them to their new home and reproduce them. It's more fun than I thought it would be crickets are so cool and they make cool noises . Just today my baby crickets started hatching from eggs. I will upload videos of my Carnivorous plants farm and crickets it this chanel if any one wants to see.

This video is amazing, the life cycle of crickets is very interesting. And, the chirping is one of my favorite characteristics of crickets. I had success raising House Crickets bought from my local pet store, and just using them as food for my Myrmica Incompleta ant colony. Aside from a source of food, crickets are fascinating insects. House Crickets tend to be more docile, while Striped Crickets can get pretty territorial, and “bat” other crickets with their long antennae. Sadly, I messed up somewhere in rearing the 3rd generation of House Crickets. The container I had the eggs in was too moist, and this caused the end of this line. Right now, I’m experimenting with a method for Striped Crickets. One where they’re in a 10 gallon fish tank, just to see if they’ll continually reproduce, hatch, and grow. Theoretically, there should be a constant supply of crickets in all stages of life. Something similar was done by a teacher I had in elementary school, where he had a similar sized tank just FULL of grasshoppers. Ones native to my area, and there were hundreds of them, in every size. Now, I have to find out if this can be replicated with Striped Crickets.
That is a great video. I just got my first frogs ever. Now i'm excited to breed crickets for them, Thank you for the video. It was so clear and amusing.
Thank you so much!! This helped me so much on breeding crickets. I am getting a baby bearded dragon soon and I know they eat lots but this video will save me a lot of cricket money!! Thank You!!:D
I never separate them depending on their sizes, when I move them for example cleaning the tank i remove all of them at once by shaking them out of their black tubes and egg cartons. I have different tanks with different cricket maturities, so they have all pretty the same size within a tank.
Depending on how you defining "worth". You can buy crickets for a couple of euros, so from a monetary point of view its not woth, but its definetly worth from a healthy point of view. My bearded dragon is just getting home feed fresh crickets! :-) Usually i have far to many crrickets as I have only one bearded dragon. He is doing winter hybernation as well, wich means i just need two cricrets colonies per year. Its also fun for my boys to see the crickets growing.
The black tube was just part of the cage equipment when I bougt it. Basically the crickets hiding inside the tube, wich is nice because that make the feeding easier as i just need to shake the tube to get the crickets for my dragon! :-)
Just place an egg carton into the tank and place it into some light. The result is that they will hide and climb into the egg carton where you can easily move them from one tank to another one.
I am cleaning the tannk every two month. There is no smell in between. But this depends of course what thype of food and how much food you put into the tank. I alway give just enaough fresh food (salad) as they can eat within 2-3 days.
After I put a fresh soil into the cricket tank I usually remove it after 2 weeks for breeding into a separate box. Just keep it warm and moistured, baby crickets will come withing 2-3 weeks.
What specific veggies do you feed the adults? I have a few (I'm not planning on breeding just yet, for I don't have a big enough cage) and they won't eat lettuce, watermelon, or sliced up carrots. Maybe they had some food at the pet store when I got them a couple days ago? Also, what do you feed the baby crickets?
@everfalcon I simple moved the egg carton from one container to the other. The rest of the crickets i simple pour them into the new container. Couple of them tried to escape, so better you have a net or something to catch them. :-)
Faydefox they are crystals soaked with water 💦 and transform into a gel. It should provide the crickets 🦗 water without the risk that they die in water.
Just make sure they are in a warm climate (dessert), they have enough to eat and a place to put they eggs. You can replace the "egg box" every week to a different "breeding enclosure"
pretty much the same as before. I spray the soil every day with water and keep them warm room temperature 23 Degree Celsius. Mother nature is doing the rest! I have descirbe the full life cycle on my website just follow the link in Video description.
its strange that i had no breading going on and there were like different bugs that dont look like crickets and there were larvae in there water and they were eating the crickets...sad but a lot of them survived and i cleaned it out instantly
I am using standard soil that I am also using also for my tomatoe plants on my blacony. But I assume it wont hold water any longer, you need to spray them with water every day twize to keep the soil moistered.
I always add a water granulate (white stuff). They are like cristals and when some water have been added thea are like "jelly". If you put water in the tank the circkets may die, because they cannot swim. There are also some vitamins in it and providing some humidity for the tank. the water granulate is not really necessary when you provide fresh salad every day.
Nice video! hey its not an annoying sound lol its super cool and therapeutic. There are people who keep them in their bedroom and the sound helps them sleep. I have heard even insomniacs having success using Cricket Chirp Therapy!
Great vid , love it ! So I did a lot of research about bearded dragons n I think I can handle one for now I just need you to me what I'm missing : Heat lamp Uvb light 25-30 gallon tank Warm spot with a basking area And I cold spot with a little log to shelter it 100 degrees on warm side n 70-80 degrees on the cold side Diet : greens, mustard green , turnip green n crickets n stuff Oh and how many hours do I keep the light on ? Sorry if I'm asking to much ..
The most imporant thing - make sure you have time to spend with the bearded dragon, don't forget he could be up to 15 years old! From the technical side I think a 30 gallon tank is far too small, since most bearded dragon are a minimum of 18 inces fully grown he wont be able to turn around comfortably. If you have the place and if you could afford take a bigger one or build your own one. Take a look to my video how to build your own tank. I have my lights all on various timers so that the lights turn on and off automatically, the total time of lights is around 10 hours. What you miss in your list is also the substrate for the ground, make sure its not toxic and best one is natural clay from you animal shop. Hope my information will help you to make your decission!
I would say that an adult cricket can lay up to 10 eggs per day. But not all eggs will breed out successful, depending on your condition of the soil but also depending how you feed your cricktes. Hope this helps.
+Agustin Escoto Sorry Augusting but I cannot response to your comment using the "Reply" button. Not sure why. The black tubes have just been as part of a starter set for keeping insects. Its basically for hiding but better and cheaper is using some egg cartons.
What species is this type of cricket?? Its a bit different than the regular acheta domesticus sp of house crickets?? Are they a wild type variety?? I never seen a cricket like this especially around my are here in Seattle Washington??
Hi Jennifer, its hard to say without having a picture. Baby crickets looks like adult cricktes but very small. There could be a couple of white ones as well but also looking like adult cricktes. You can compate the shape with mine in my video.
I just don't understand if you change the dirt after the babies have grown and have 2 mating tanks, or do you have a tank for the crickets you are going to feed to your dragon? I found your video the best so far. Your tank is so clean and I love the idea of the grate over the dirt. Where did that come from?
How about water?........your video was excellent , great quality....did you ever tried eating any?..... I'm really trying .....one more question ...do you use a special tool or? To remove them...loved the video
Crickets start laying eggs when the are adult and when the males are making the annoying noise! :-) I would say it will take 3 weeks when the hatching is stating, especially if you keep the eggs warm and moisture.
Dang, I’ve been looking all over for this type of cricket. There are barely any suppliers of Silent Brown Crickets in the U.S. The main two are House Crickets(Acheta domesticus) and Banded Crickets(Gryllodes sigillatus). :o
Thank you this video helped out alot! i subbed :) i got a bearded dragon a week ago and i was think of breeding crickets instead of buying them everyday. This helped alot
You can use any boxes you like as long as they are plastic, otherwhise the circkets can climb and escape. For 6 crickets, any box will do. but you can have a look on my website (link in the video description) I am providiing there some links for boxes.
How do you move the babies after they get a bit bigger? Do you use tubes to move them..? I want to breed for my veiled, but the idea of transferring them just confuses me haha After they hatch, do they need the soil?
no i am not heating the adult cricket container, we have a termperature from around +22.0 °C = +71.6 °F anyway. When I am incubating I am put the cricket container on top of my terrarium to get heat up the soil. During the incubating I also spray more water to moisture the soil.
I removed the soil just because I needed my boxes filled them with new soil for new breeding. Meanwhile i got more of the blue "soil boxes" and I am no longer removing the soil, just switch them. You can also keep the eggs in the habitat they wold hatch and grrow. Just make sure you have food for the little cricket babies. I havent seen that the older crickets eating the younger ones, but this maybe also depends on the size of the box where they live together and also if they have entought food
What types of Boxes do you use for the crickets and where to you buy them. I have to do a research project for my zoology course and I was thinking about doing an experiment with crickets. Also what kind of crickets are they and how small could a container for about six crickets be?
great video so it would take about 7 weeks for them to reach adult size? i was thinking of trying to breed them again as my frogs need a fresh supply of micros every two days.
My son and I are getting a bearded dragon and i was wondering if i could produce my own food. This is a great video. But i wonder if you really have to separate the babys do they really eat the babys in the wild. Have you tested a sample batch to see if they do
You said at about 7:45 that you put the bigger crickets into a separate box. How do you move them from the other box? I'm assuming you're not catching them by hand.
I am going to start breeding crickets this week, hopefully I'll be successfull. I only have one beaded dragon but I hate going to the store all the time so I'd rather just breed my own. Also planning on getting a tokay gecko so it should be worth it. question; how do you transfer the adult crickets once they hatch and grow? Also do adults eat the baby crickets or just the eggs?
Yo! I need help! My crickets tanks begain to get this web looking stuff and there is no spiders in my room and in the contaier where the eggs will hactch has it. What is it and what do I have to do to prevent it from happening? Put less eco earth?
Great Video and Pictures. I just started breeding some myself. If you don't have a screen on the soil would the other crickets eat the eggs? Why the screen?
Im new with crickets and I have no pet to feed them to. Im a newbie with owning crickets so this was very helpful, but I (Stupid me) don't really know what to feed them. The reason I don't know is because I caught mine in my front/back yard. If you could give me some suggestions on what to feed them around the house that wouldn't kill them, would be very useful to me. :)
i was watching a thai video on breeding and they were using tree leaves and grass. with some different things for the breeders. same thing but some type of meal as well. also how many pounds of crickets can you make per month? .. .also would you make any recommendation for food grade crickets
I usually give them some salad, carrots and some fuits as you can see in my video. Not sure about how much i got out of my crickets as i am just doing this as a hobby for feeding my bearded dragon.

There are also some vitamins in it and providing some humidity for the tank. the water granulate is not really necessary when you provide fresh salad every day.
Hard to say, why. Did they had some food and enough moisture? Did they have room temperarture or have they been in the sun?
Nice video! hey its not an annoying sound lol its super cool and therapeutic. There are people who keep them in their bedroom and the sound helps them sleep. I have heard even insomniacs having success using Cricket Chirp Therapy!
Great vid , love it ! So I did a lot of research about bearded dragons n I think I can handle one for now I just need you to me what I'm missing :
Heat lamp
Uvb light
25-30 gallon tank
Warm spot with a basking area
And I cold spot with a little log to shelter it
100 degrees on warm side n 70-80 degrees on the cold side
Diet : greens, mustard green , turnip green n crickets n stuff
Oh and how many hours do I keep the light on ?
They thrive better in a dry environment, they breath through holes on the side of their body. Any moisture covers the holes then they will die
Awesome vid! quality youtube stuff right here! thx for your effort and time putting into it!
Thanks, made lot of fun to create this video!
great video. how do u keep the baby crickets in the container? cant they climb out? what did u use for a lid?
I never seen a cricket like this especially around my are here in Seattle Washington??
excellent video quality, can you tell me what you were recording with?
Thanks
Thanks. It was actually my fist recording with my new handycam von Sony HDR-PJ50. Can just recommend it.
Depends. At a petsmart or petco its around 10 cents. Online at Ghanns its like 5 cents.
You currently raise Gryllus assimilis (Jamaican field cricket) , found in Jamaica in 1793
Great video. Good information, clear and to the point
Best video I've seen for Cricket breeding by far! Awesome 👍
Thanks, very kind of you!
Are those a different type of crickets or u take good care of the plz reply because I need food im just feeding them pelets
at least they can not climb! :-)
are they also doing lot of noise during night?
Dang, I’ve been looking all over for this type of cricket. There are barely any suppliers of Silent Brown Crickets in the U.S. The main two are House Crickets(Acheta domesticus) and Banded Crickets(Gryllodes sigillatus). :o
Thank you this video helped out alot! i subbed :) i got a bearded dragon a week ago and i was think of breeding crickets instead of buying them everyday. This helped alot
Nice, glad that my video helped you. Just try it and buy couple of crickets it will work out just fine.
Maybe moisturing the breeding soil with warm water will help. Does it?
You can use any boxes you like as long as they are plastic, otherwhise the circkets can climb and escape.
For 6 crickets, any box will do. but you can have a look on my website (link in the video description) I am providiing there some links for boxes.
I love crickets.
How can l buy your crickets?
How do you sell them?
How much a lbs?
How do you move the babies after they get a bit bigger? Do you use tubes to move them..? I want to breed for my veiled, but the idea of transferring them just confuses me haha
After they hatch, do they need the soil?
I simple thake the egg carton with the babies on it and either shake them into the new container or a I place the egg carton in the new container.
Wow i was searching for this video. finally I got it. Thanks for the video.
Thanks I am preparing for a beardie and I dimly cannot afford to buy a million krickets great vid☺
no i am not heating the adult cricket container, we have a termperature from around +22.0 °C = +71.6 °F anyway.
How many crickets did you start out with??? Can I buy them at Petco? Thanks.
great video so it would take about 7 weeks for them to reach adult size? i was thinking of trying to breed them again as my frogs need a fresh supply of micros every two days.
I am using the egg cartons to move the crickets from one to anohter container bevore I start cleaning the container.
Is it bad if you put the 4 or 5 week old crickets with the adults???
I haven't seen any canibalism with crickets, especially not if they have anough food. So observe it a bit, but I think it will be OK.
How do you keep the smells down? And how long does it take to get a large colony going?
That's really neat thanks for sharing! I think I might try and breed crickets once for my turtle just to see how it goes.
Is there a point when I should add more crickets to avoid inbreeding or is that not an issue since they'll only ever amount to food for a beardie?
I am going to start breeding crickets this week, hopefully I'll be successfull. I only have one beaded dragon but I hate going to the store all the time so I'd rather just breed my own. Also planning on getting a tokay gecko so it should be worth it.
question; how do you transfer the adult crickets once they hatch and grow? Also do adults eat the baby crickets or just the eggs?
How do I prevent my crickets from eating each other? There's plenty of food, but they still do it....ugh!
Egg curtens
You probably need more space
Maybe your crickets are all cereal killas!😂
Dont buy crickets dubias are better
The box is too small for them!!! Make sure you have enormous space for them!
This one was actually helpful
I found a small male outside and I'm interested in keeping some as pets can you tell me what to do
They only live for about 4 months.. but i guess just make sure it has water as they tend to dry out quite easily.
Yo! I need help! My crickets tanks begain to get this web looking stuff and there is no spiders in my room and in the contaier where the eggs will hactch has it. What is it and what do I have to do to prevent it from happening? Put less eco earth?
Is the soil that you have with the new babys, the soil you had in the container with the adults?
Great Video and Pictures. I just started breeding some myself. If you don't have a screen on the soil would the other crickets eat the eggs? Why the screen?
yes the others would eat the eggs. :-)
thanks I appreciate the reply
What kind of grid is on the soil container? You mentioned that it's a fine grid, but is it metal, where did you get it?
Thanks !!
You are right, they are just food, but when I made this video I was intereseted in their short live. Good luck with your gecko.
i was watching a thai video on breeding and they were using tree leaves and grass. with some different things for the breeders. same thing but some type of meal as well. also how many pounds of crickets can you make per month? .. .also would you make any recommendation for food grade crickets
I usually give them some salad, carrots and some fuits as you can see in my video. Not sure about how much i got out of my crickets as i am just doing this as a hobby for feeding my bearded dragon.
I got thousands of little Pinhead crickets how long is it going to take him to get big there about a quarter of an inch long now
yes, but also to keep the crickets healthy and happy. :-)
