    Really loved the piece on the theatre at the end - have grown up visiting that place for the last 45 years - a special place in my heart!!

      I did wonder if last year was the final one, but new owners might mean it continues, fingers crossed.

    It was quite funny - Jim wanted it quiet and Bobby Davro wanted it loud, so sort of a compromise, but did you spot all the extra mics there for the video - audience mics and then 4 for the Lifeboat guys! New carpets, but sadly April is not great in a building with no heating. There's a gap now before the others get started, but hopefully the lifeboat did OK with the evening.

    For my own gear I opted for the turbosound clones of the VRX932 lap. The only problem I have with the 932s is that two of the amplifiers we used have some issues. The replacements are relatively easy to install, however, and they're quite affordable considering.
    I opted for the Turbosound BERLIN TBV123AN because my understanding is the JBL designers for the VRX worked on the turbosounds, redesigning the horns and dropping one horn from the configuration. I like the convenience of the ultra net control system also.

      I did consider the Turbosound version, as I still have some floor wedges that I really like - but the deal I got for the JBL swung it.

    I can remember many moons ago a stack of EARS branded cabs that looked a lot like EVSX300s - 4 per side ready for Cannon & Ball at the Britannia. Love that place - is asbestos still prohibiting any movement of the old Matamp cabs and those Shure columns towards the rear? If those Shure cabs ever come out of there, would love to buy them. Keep up the great work!! PS - I think those Shure cabs are VA103 or something, similar to the Vocalmasters but a smaller version. Incidentally, I think a lot of theatres in Yarmouth used Shure columns and larger Shure cabs - must have been a local dealer. Windmill used them, Wellington used them, Biergarten had Shure stage monitors and the old Marina had Shure 15inch+Horn, 4 cabs suspended from the ceiling!!

      The empty matamp cabs went to the landfill a few years back. The brackets are still there, because as you say, the wall can’t be touched. The shures are dangling still. I too would love them for the history, but it would need more work than it’s worth to remove the support cables poking through. Those 300 clones are still there and get used occasionally for wedges or other extra speakers. The JBL rig works so much better than what went before the low ceiling and 30 odd rows of seats makes it’s horrible at the front if bands bring in their usual rigs and ground stack them. Few understand, but some do, and simply add my system in to cover the back and theirs for the front. Seems to work.

    Thank you for the video, I like that you followed your ears and not just reviews... recently I've been faced with the conundrum of figuring out which PA to hold on to v.s. invest in for the audio rental markets here in India. I currrently have 20 VRX tops in my inventory, and have planned on downsizing in order to make space for newer gear, whether or not to sell all 20 is the question. I'm guessing that holding on to 8 may work for basic conference / DJ applications... I'm glad that I came across your video though! great job on rigging that system solo = )

      I appreciate the reply - it really does the job nicely for virtually all the shows we've had, the exception being those that want mega loud low end. I love the overall sound for most of the stuff we do. Michael Jackson and Queen tributes where they wanted it loud (and I mean stupidly loud) the bottom end needed some assistance with more subs - 8 rather than the usual 4. Best wishes.

      @@eastanglianradio great sound last night on the pier, although it was a tad cold inside! I sat half way near the back and the clarity and spread of sound was really good indeed.

    Hi sir May ask what kind of rigging you are using?

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 ton manual chain winch’s using the usual cruciform shape. There is also a fixed drop that goes to the rear shackle. We lift the array and then when it’s at trim height attach the fixed one and then trim for level. That’s pretty much it.

      Sir thank you for your response, may ask the specific brand/model of the rigging

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markbandoy1766 I think the chain hoists are Hilka - and the actual lifting frame is one fabricated by a local offshore industry welding shop to match the JBL one - which is crazily over priced. Shackles from UK firm rope assemblies.

    These cabinets bend crazily like Kalashnikov magazines. You can't stack more than three of them or hang up more than four of them,

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the point! They're not line arrays, they're constant curvature - three is the limit normally.
