My first ride on a helicopter was at the Big E Fair in West Springfield Massachusetts. I was 8 years old. It was at night and you saw all the lights from the city. I'm 64 now Mike, going to retire soon to 90 ac in Scott county TN. In joy watching you channel. Joe Schlehofer Waterford CT.
in 1965 flew in a CH47 hauling hay to a ranch in a flood. Since then have built a full size helicopter and airplanes, the kind you get in and fly yourself. Fun to watch white knuckle Mike and happy go luck Melissa. Great channel
I bet you can clear a spot big enough for a helicopter. I saw some video of the "Bronco Off-Roadeo" recently. It looked like a great way to learn all the Bronco capabilities. My daughter and I have gone up in 2 retired military helicopters. Both were doorless. One was basically a Bell Ranger and the other was a Huey. They were both amazing.
Hey Mike, yes, I've been in a helicopter as well. We were at my wife's Christmas party and I was about the same as you, when am I ever going to get this opportunity again, so we did it, it was a night flight around the city of Dallas and it was definitely a once in a lifetime adventure, but really glad I did it! Thanks, Brian
I fly helicopters myself was in the military and loved them only learnt to fly 2011 dont get much chance now here in Thailand. Glad you got the oppertunetly
Hi Mike & Family. I remember that feeling when the wife & I went up in a helicopter around Sidney Harbour. Spectacular. I was very nervous but we did it. First & only time up in one.
Can't wait to see Malissa go sky diving. When I was young and in the Army I was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. Loved the jumping, nothing like it. Had a chance when I was in my 30's to go sky diving but said no, that was for the young and dumb not for the older wiser, Ha Ha. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
Hi Mike and Melissa, Back in 1982 when I was a youngster of 40 I travelled to the island of Kauai, HI with my wife and 2 young children. The highlight of the entire trip was a helicopter ride over the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" (Waimea Canyon)---absolutely stunning and hope you will be able to do that trip sometime in the future---Have watched your videos almost from the beginning---Thanks for all the effort you put into them. They are much appreciated.
Hey Mike, I was the guy who got to fly the natural gas pipelines all over the north half of Arkansas and some in southern Missouri and a little in eastern Oklahoma for several decades. At first we used a fixed wing then later a Bell Jet Ranger Helicopter. I loved every minute of it. You just haven't lived until you have flown a hundred MPH at about 400 feet about the ground. The good part about that is if something goes wrong, you don't have time for your life to flash before your eyes.
Happy labor day Morgans and friends. Just like you Mike, I'll keep my feet on the ground. Closest I came to flying was several years back. Was headed to a ole friend's hanger and was side swiped sitting at a red light waiting to turn into airport. If that's not a sign! Turned around and went home. Suppose the good lord would've made me a bird if I was suppose to be up there. Hope everyone has a blessed day.
I was in Naval Special Warfare (Melissa you was at the naval base I trained at when you went on Coronado Island just west of San Diego) we trained with MH-60s and also we trained on the MD 500 in which you had a man ride on each side of the helicopter on the outside with M-416 rifles. I love jumping out the back of C-17s and C-130s and also out the back CH-47 helicopters. I love jumping at 35K feet at night. You can actually see the curve of the earth before daylight and sunrise at 35K feet. Naval Special Warfare is not for the weak of heart however. That is why I retired from the Navy when I turned 46 years old but it was 26 years of excitement that I will never forget.
I’ve only rode in three helicopters, one Bell Jet Ranger doing recon for a search warrant and then on my 30th birthday my gang enforcement unit did helicopter insertion training from a Blackhawk helicopter. The third time was “fast rope” insertion training from a Sikorsky for my SWAT team. It was some of the funnest parts of my career and, like you Mike, I am deathly afraid of heights. Good for you taking the opportunity!
I would never pass-up an opportunity like that either. Bill has to have some real talent to fly that, unlike airplanes, helicopter don't fly because they "want to" but because somebody can control all the conflicting forces to get it to fly. Thanks for taking us along with you Mike and Melissa.
Looks like Melissa had a great time Mike, maybe you not so much. The last time I was in a helicopter was in spring of 1969, I had been on them quite a bit from fall of 1967 through 1969. Not the best of times but as a Seabee not nearly as bad as some boys had it. Never got close to one again except for one medical flight. To this day I can hear a huey long before ever seeing it. Enjoy your videos and the variety they offer, great way to start my day.
God bless you and thank you for your service. I had a buddy in Dessert shield and storm. I was glued to tv making sure he was ok.... never knowing where he was just praying he was ok. Came home for couple yrs. And went back in for few more yrs. He loved the service.
In 1969-70 I was in the 25th Infantry Division in Viet Nam. We were an Air Mobile unit - which simply means that the UH-1B Huey was our method of transportation to and from our base, so I've been in a chopper hundreds of times. 82 of those were Hot LZ (landing zones) where we under enemy fire while landing. There wasn't a more welcome sound than the bop, bop, bop of an approaching Huey when out in the jungle , because it meant that we were either going to get resupplied, or best yet, getting out of there. Oftentimes, it was just a pickup, only to be inserted somewhere else. Not exactly what we hoped for, but at least we were getting out-of-there for a while - even just for a short while. It happened especially when we had not made enough 'contact' with the enemy where we were. Being 6'4" tall and add on a large back pack (called an Alice) and loaded with supplies, water and weapons, I was just too tall to exit from the Huey (esp in a hurry - like during a Hot LZ when the chopper crew expected us (the whole squad) to completely exit in a few seconds. After on incident where I caught my Alice on the top of the side door opening, it flipped me on my back in the elephant grass on the ground. I was like a turtle on its shell momentarily. After that (IIRC that was during my second week in Nam), I was always one of the ones that merely sat in the doorway, with my feet hanging down near the skids. I felt safer there - If you could call that 'safe'. Anyway, I always loved choppers and almost went to chopper pilot school - but turned it down as it required extending my enlistment. I found out when I arrived in Nam that chopper pilots had one of the shortest life-expectancy, but there were many nights sleeping out in the jungle, that I wished I had gone that route (as they always slept in beds back at the base). Now, I am not sure what would happen if I got the chance to ride in one again. I don't know what it bring up. War is kinda like dipping a sponge in ink. You can squeeze out the excess and the sponge can still be useful as a sponge, but the sponge will for ever be tinted the color of the ink. Happy Labor Day to all.
Thanks for sharing that experience. I had the opportunity to go up only once, and loved it. My brother in law flew in Vietnam, so he was one of the best in my mind.
I'm a retired Marine. I flew Huey helicopters in Vietnam. 240 miles an hour top speed. I didn't ever get to that speed, but nice to know I could if I had to. Flew with gunner doors open so usually around 100 mph
I went up in a plane once and watched parachuters jumping out of the plane. I didn't jump but had a parachute on. Everyone in the plane has to ware one because of the door being opened. It was fun.
We jumped as a family bucket list at Skydive Newport in RI my mother in law was 75 at the time my nephew was the youngest of our group at 18....it is a once in a lifetime...and my daughters boss takes everyone who wishes on a helicopter ride during the annual company picnic in NH
MD stands for McDonald Douglas. They make a great helicopter: maneuverable, quick, quality machine. I ferried one from Portland Oregon to Tampa, FL. Took 2 days, and I didn't count the stops. If I could afford a 500, I would buy one in a minute. They are expensive (but worth it), and because of the type of rotor system, they require more maintenance. Also, if you did happen to go down in one, this helicopter is designed for survivability. The military version was designated as the OH-6 Cayuse, but was nicknamed the Loach. It is not in general use in the Army now, but special forces had been using them. Don't know about now. You were fortunate to have the opportunity. Rides like that usually cost a lot of money.
I have ridden in a helicopter. I worked for the electric company and got the chance to go out with the crew that inspects the Transmission lines by air. It was a two hour ride that was INCREDIBLE!...I LOVED IT!!!
As a pilot who has owned an airplane for over 20 years, that is an experience that you can't pass up. I flew a helicopter a couple of times. I had the opportunity to fly a night mission with Las Vegas Metro PD in the same helicopter, as well as with Columbus PD.
Greg from northern Michigan. M&M provides lots of great channel content. Melissa was all smiles during her helicopter ride. Mike was also all smiles while clenching his teeth and hanging on for dear life. Keep the great videos coming ...
Wow, I'm jealous. Helicopter has to be the most fun you can have flying. I ride every chance I get at events ,air shows or anywhere I can bum a joy ride!
Flew to the top of Mt. Saint Helen in Oregon with a fabulous pilot and several friends back in early 1990s…quite memorable. Glad the two of you got to go on a flight!
I worked out of Helo's for years as a helicopter ski guide ... flew a little but never got my license ... they are tricky to fly, but eventually with time the Bird becomes part of you ... my pilot was a veteran Vietnam Huey Medevac pilot, he did 2 tours and was an instructor after ... he got shot down 3 times and landed his craft safely each time ... I trusted him with my life every day, and every time he dropped us off at 12,000 ft ... knowing he would always return to get us ... he was just that kind of guy ... I once asked him why he would volunteer for a second tour considering the dangers ... he smiled and said ... "I saved a lot of lives and taught the new guys how to survive that hell ... and I loved flying those birds" ...
That looked like a lot of fun. Been on several helicopter rides in a Corporate Bell 206 with the doors closed. The first one began on top of a 30 story building. One second we were hovering above the pad, then it moved forward and we were instantly thirty stories in the air. I liked it. I had a private pilots license in the late sixties when I was young and immortal.
Congratulations Mike, you have finally cought up to my seven year old daughter. She was invited to a birthday party in Gatlinburg TN. One of the things at the party was a short five minute helicopter ride. When it was time we strapped them in the seat and gave each one a set of headphones. So off they go, and go and go. As they went out of sight we asked where they were going. Turns out they got on a ride which was an hour long tour of the Great Smoky Mountains. We were afraid they would be scared. But when they got back they wanted to go again. Point is Mike, just sit back and enjoy the ride.
My first ride in a helicopter was in a Westland Wessex Australian Navy unit. I was seated above the sonar operator’s observation dome in the deck, so I was looking at the tarmac a couple of feet below me until the pilot wound it up and cut it loose in a vertical direction at a great rate of knots! My stomach was left on the tarmac with the force of our assent, but the ensuing flight around the bay and nearby ocean was fascinating. Come time to land and the cowboy at the stick decided to have some more fun, so he positioned the chopper directly over the “H” on the ground below me and dropped like a lead balloon! The sight of that H getting very rapidly larger put the wind up me somewhat!🤭 All good fun though! I loved your videos especially that infectious smile on your face Melissa! Thanks.
You're a hoot Mike..... Yep I flew in and worked on helicopters for twenty years in the Navy..Lots of fun and lots of stories. Totally enjoy all your videos!!!
Mike you looked like you were holding on to dear life in that helicopter ride, where Melissa by the big beautiful smile was enjoying the ride the whole time. My first and only helicopter ride was some years ago in Maui Hawaii, my wife Linda, son Erik and I took a helicopter ride around the island of Maui, we all just loved. I must say that that was a fantastic ride, I loved seeing all the green scenery that you flew around Ohio. Again great photography as always, you and Melissa put out some green videos, Thank You.
Hey hey - Your MD (McDonnell Douglas) 500 helicopter powered by a (Rolls-Royce Aero) R-R 250-C20R turbine engine. Designed and built here in Indianapolis Indiana. Retired from that facility and know that engine like the back of my hand. Aircraft/engine super safe it’s the pilots (very few) who push its capabilities beyond limits.
Mike, I spent 25 years in the Airborne Infantry as a Pathfinder. During my time we would Air mobile to locations but the best time would be to jump out of Helicopters with a parachute. Love them
Awesome! My son is a helo pilot for our local hospital. I got to fly with him on a patient transport from our SW MI hospital to Chicago. We flew along the Lk Michigan south shore rather than over water. It was fabulous!
I LOVE helicopters. I spent 3 yrs in the army Reserves (Enlisted) & 25 Yrs. in the Arkansas Army National Guard (Officer) and never passed up a chance to catch a ride. I have been in the old Hueys, Black Hawks, and Chinooks....Great times!
I'm a retired police officer and we would get to get in the helicopter to search for Marijuana growing in the fields of Southwest Ohio. It was more fun than work, but the views are incredible. I also enjoy hot air balloons. No noise and very little sense of climb and fall. Great video

WOW😳❗️ What a great ride along today!!! That was my first “ride” in a helicopter 😂.
Good morning friend :-)
@@badcat4707 happy magnificent Monday to you BadCat!!!
Was a Huey mechanic in the USAF 40 some years ago. Loved every time I got to go up in them. Love your channel.
The fields look nice and green that area must have had good rains
in 1965 flew in a CH47 hauling hay to a ranch in a flood.
Fire wood delivery by air. Hmmmm bet that would make a great Vid!!!
Cute how Ty watched Mike's arms and hands at the picnic table and then proceeded to mimic him. (Now teach him your signature Clap & Rub gesture.)
Nice you two and it is almost like I got to take a ride , thank you .
I flew in a couple of military helicopters, CH-46 and a CH-53 while in the USMC.
Good morning HOM❗️ & a Happy Labor Day to u2!
Good Morning Michael & Friends! 🙂
@@davidmorse8432 good afternoon buddy
Lol I like that, if he wanted me to fly he would have made me a bird haha
What a beautiful area!
Thank you for the nice video I really enjoyed watching keep up the good work I'm proud of you
Looks like Melissa had a great time Mike, maybe you not so much.
18 years flying in helicopters and a few thousand jumps and really enjoyed it.
In South East Asia I remember the thrill of going over areas I had covered on the ground, recognizing landmarks.
Neat! Thanks for sharing
Super cool that you got to do that helicopter ride. What a great guy to be able to take you up like that. Awecome
Your analogy on war is excellent. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing that experience. I had the opportunity to go up only once, and loved it. My brother in law flew in Vietnam, so he was one of the best in my mind.
Plus I noticed the death grip you had on that handle!
I'm a retired Marine. I flew Huey helicopters in Vietnam. 240 miles an hour top speed. I didn't ever get to that speed, but nice to know I could if I had to. Flew with gunner doors open so usually around 100 mph
Thank you for your service & welcome home!
Looked like you had a tight grip on the handle in the chopper. lol
Mike, i am with you, have flew several times, but like my feed planted on the ground! Great Video and Hello to Melissa and Tye!🙏🇺🇸
Looks like you had a death grip on that strap. Don’t blame you! 😉
I wouldn't have passed that opportunity either. Thats one of my biggest things to do. Glad yall had a blast👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
💥 Looks like a great time! The expressions on each of your faces are quite different. 😁😨
*Keep on tractoring!* #ARITTERBITWILLDO
That was a great video. Glad you guys took advantage of flying.
I have ridden in a helicopter. I worked for the electric company and got the chance to go out with the crew that inspects the Transmission lines by air. It was a two hour ride that was INCREDIBLE!...I LOVED IT!!!
Mike Bought himself a helicopter!
I was an Army helicopter pilot. It was one of the best times of my life.
Kubota doesn’t make helicopters
when I was in the Army got a ride in a scout helicopter like that one. Loved it
John from Wilmington, Delaware. Yes, I have flown in a helicopter but I have never sky dived. Go for it Melissa.
That is the cutest little boy 😊 God Bless
What a awesome experience you two had. Great way to see the landscape.
Great video !!! Very good pilot , very smooth !!! Would have loved to have gone for a ride !!! Thank you !!! Please keep it up !!!
I'm a retired police officer and we would get to get in the helicopter to search for Marijuana growing in the fields of Southwest Ohio. It was more fun than work, but the views are incredible. I also enjoy hot air balloons. No noise and very little sense of climb and fall. Great video
I’ve been around aircraft for many years now. My job now allows me to work closely with law enforcement air support units. I go up as often as I can. So peaceful flying in the air. Glad y’all got the opportunity to take a ride. Take care & stay safe.
Yes, Mike you looked terrified. Flew helicopters, (Hueys, Kiowa, Cobras and Chinooks) for the Army for 15 yrs. Glad you took the opportunity to experience it.
We flew in one out of Maui. I did not feel nervous. The close up sights where incredible. Worth every penny.
Jim Bright raised in Pgh now in SC. Been up in a helo twice in Hawaii and jumped ,out of a perfectly good airplane at about 25,000 feet when I was 74! Go Mike!!!!!
I have flown choppers many, many times. Huge majority of my flights were over 50 years ago in Vietnam. I can say that I enjoyed every flight. Your friend has a beautiful Helicopter and I am glad you and Melissa had the opportunity to fly with him.
