They definitely hate CAS. It basically is in conflict with their current mission doctrine. Realistically pilots and the aircraft are insanely expensive and difficult to replace. Legend has it, if you hear the A-10 shoot, it wasn't meant for you. Also, you hear the bullets hit the ground before they get shot.
If Fairchild Aircraft was still around I would totally say modernize, update, and streamline the A-10 and build new ones with a focus on low cost durability and efficiency. It does a role that no other craft does.
the f-35 has the ability to do everything and more same with the strike eagle the only difference is the gun which is now largely impractical good CAS in its time but not anymore
@@Mythicspider265 So the F35 is better at CAS than the A10? The reality is that the F35 flies too fast and cant loiter as long so it's less useful for CAS. The F35 was designed with other missions in mind and it shows.
@@alexisrivera200xable The F-35 actually has a targeting system, unlike the A-10 that forces pilots to identify targets with binoculars and that has lead to killing more friendlies than enemies. If the A-10 is the "Greatest CAS aircraft in the world" then give me proof or go watch the 2 part Lazerpig video that is about how much the A-10 sucks in the modern world.
@TWOG534 You know what? That is a good idea, I will watch that. My original source was fellow Army vets at my local VA hospital who have been helped out by the A10. Can't claim they are all 100% factual as its simple hearsay. Will reply later after watching those videos.
Go look up the skywarden.
I’m already considering going into the Air Force to be a fighter pilot(if i can get a slot). Just gotta study for the AFOQT, and i already have knowledge as a general aviation pilot. Flying is the best thing since sliced bread… so next goal is to go faster and be more furious in a fighter aircraft!
a10 = flying death sentence while hearing BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR lol
It should not be discontinued!
It definitely should dude
Just watch the Lazerpig videos
Yes!
The a10 needs to be updates with modern weaponry and tech. I seriously think, that a modern a10 would be the deadliest, ground support aircraft in history.
It would be way to expensive
Consider how slow it is and loud. If it actually faced a opponent with capable non outdated spaa it would get shit on. Also its “insane durability” is only from being shot at with small arms which arguably isnt that impressive and concerning how much damage those small arms were causing
Many a A-10 were completely scrapped due to 7.62 fire alone, even penetrating the "tub". Tooooo many myths. It was never built to be durable, it was built to be expendable and take out 3 or 4 tanks with it.
That air force base in Tucson is like 45 mins away from my house
As I see in the comments it is also a very big morale boost for all troops
Although outdated it they could make a new a10 or they make a new plane built around the gun and it has to be the a10 gun
Love the content Nikko.
Thanks Dawson! Do you think it should be retired?!
@Nikko Ortiz if it ain't broke don't fix it. But idk with today's technology if it should or shouldn't be.
I am 14 and in California cuz my dad works 6 months in Cali and 3 in Alberta, Canada. As soon as we return to Canada, I will be starting flight training
A10 I do believe is the only plane to have returned to base and landed with a missing wing.
The F-15 has done this as well
@@brandont.9520 They didn’t tell the pilot how bad the damage was until they landed.
@@brandont.9520 F-15 is also more guided rocket than plane🤣
@@brandont.9520 wasn't that one only missing half a wing?
@@Saanonymous80 no, after a mid air collision with another aircraft the F15 lost a full wing and the pilot used afterburner to stabilize the aircraft, so yeah the F15 can achieve missile physics
A10 is my favorite current aircraft. Before that B25H. Similar roles. One is a rotary cannon. Other is literally a howitzer in a plane along with up to 10 M2 50s all firing at once
Did you know that the a 10 has killed 35 friendly forces that’s 14 more than the harrier

extra fun fact , the first sound you hear when it fires is actually the bullets hitting and then the gun , that's why they say with the A-10 that if you hear it you weren't the target
It was made for a different time that has sadly passed. There is a reason why we don’t still use ww2 tanks or still use crossbows or muskets.
Agreed
Agreed, it’s an outdated plane that needs to be replaced since it’s ineffective on the modern battlefield. I’ll always like it’s looks though.
@@definitelynotthefbi4412 No it is not ineffective, they are still tearing up modern battlefields. They have made many updates and sent some to Ukraine, which shortly after Russia really started getting wrecked. The thing is the way the plane is built is the best way to have a plane for the low-altitude, low-speed runs they need to make.
Last time I saw a a-10 warhog wen I was in Miami eating burgers I saw some flying in a group and a few ac-130 with them
Favorite aircraft is the Mirage III. A French fighter that somehow performed exceptionally well in multiple roles rather than it’s original role. Seriously look how the Israelite used them in the Six Day War
I think the a-10 could be re made into a-11 or something. Funny thing, military aircraft letters describe the role the craft plays and the number is the prototype number. A is for Attack, the 10 is that there were nine other obsolete models. So a-11 should have been came out
That's not what the numbers mean. Several A series planes were still in existence, use, and production when the A-10 was produced.
I thought the "A" for Asskicking King?
@@0G_M3t4tr0n lol close but it's for AMERICAN 🤘🤘

I was a b1-b crew chief, im clearly partial to the b1 but the a10 is an insane aircraft. You could loose half the wings and an engine and still fly.
That's amazing! HALF A WING?
@@johnvoit9629 a female pilot flew a mission and saved some marines and took heavy fire the whole time but time and time again took strafe after strafe to save the marines which was successful and when she got back in the air to the wingman they told her she shouldn’t be in the air still as bad as her plane was damaged if I remember correctly she had an engine out and half a wing gone I know it was messed up BAD I heard about it by a coworker he’s a marine and was stationed where she landed after the mission and he was saying everyone went crazy when she was wheels down😳

he A-10 is the finest close air support to ever exist. It's kept a lot flags from being folded.
It also folded more friendly flags than enemy flags because the pilot has to identify targets with FUCKING BINOCULARS

I personally guarantee it has killed many more enemy combatants than 10...
brrrrrrrt
I think we just upgrade the fucking plane and call it something like the A-111 wolverine.
F-35 is great, but there's no way it can be used for the A-10 missions. Just the psychological impact for allies and the enemy is immense with the A-10, you need something like that.
Have a uncle that did 20 in the Air Force early 70's to early 90's mostly in S.A.C he always said the Airforce wants to fly high and fast not low and slow, also some comments about how they hated close air support not sure if that changed in the 2000's or not
They definitely hate CAS. It basically is in conflict with their current mission doctrine. Realistically pilots and the aircraft are insanely expensive and difficult to replace. The future is all CAS is just drones which does make sense. The pilot can switch out, it can fly forever, if it is shot down it is much cheaper and the pilot isn't lost.
1:21 "YO THAT THING GOT ME BRICKED UP" IS WILD
My favorite aircraft is the AT-6 Texan
I've worked on regularly irl (aviation mechanic)
Fun fact, the wings from our AT6 come from the D variant (gun cam and hardpoints)
Have you got to work on any other WW2 aircraft? If so, I may have like a thousand questions for you haha
I used to see A-10s a great deal. They would fly low over where I worked. They are amazing planes. I don't understand why we don't build some new ones. They are designed for ground support. The F-35...I think they may be trying to do too much with.
I mean the a-10 can be takin down by almost anyone now and the f-35 has far more ground strike capability's unlike the a-10 the only to hit friendly forces is if you try to its has far more advanced and effective ground attack weapons I will always thinks its a cool aircraft but its just not good anymore a 5000$ Manpad can take them down pretty easily that's why they didn't see much use in early war Syria
